I might take dd to the cinema to see and then to Nando’s and to a bakery for a cupcake. Will need to find a flower shop to buy her one red rose

I hate that it’s on a Saturday, I really don’t wanna see young teens out on dates while I’m chronically single 😂

will you do anything? No judgement if not, it’s just me and dd so I like to do this stuff

plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

edit to see either Gaby’s dolls house, zootropolis 2 or The Goat (kids cartoon) - not sure which 🤷‍♀️

For the kids? I am doing absolutely nothing for them at Valentines.

nam3c4ang3 · 11/02/2026 20:19

What when was this a child thing?!

CinnamonBuns67 · 11/02/2026 20:19

We don't have anyone to care for DD whilst we celebrate so we celebrate with DD, she gets a card, some flowers and some chocolates and we get a takeaway in the evening. She loves it.

ACommonTreasuryForAll · 11/02/2026 20:18

We're going out for a family meal to detract from the fact that DP and I won't be 'doing' Valentine's Day as a couple.

MTOandMe · 11/02/2026 20:18

Oh god the fun sponges are out in force. Sounds a lovely day OP. I won’t be doing anything on Valentine’s Day because personally I think it’s a bit naff and my son is going skiing with school for the week! Enjoy your lovely harmless day!

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 11/02/2026 20:18

Nothing. Why would I? As an aside me and DH don't do anything either but I am at least in a romantic relationship with him. Is this some new money spinner? I can just imagine their faces if I hot them a card😆 they would be seriously weirded out ( and rightly so).

What I'll be doing for my adult child on Saturday, is getting out of their fucking way.

I live with my child and their partner, so my job will be to go upstairs early in the evening to watch television, while they do whatever a couple who've been together for 35 years do on Valentines.

This is another of those things that would seem really strange if it was a father doing something like this for his daughter on Valentine's Day, imo.

I’ve definitely seen men doing this with their daughters! It’s lovely, shows them how to be treated in future, imo

No, I will be having a normal Saturday. I don’t celebrate Valentine’s with my husband or my children. I’ve always thought of it as a day for youngsters. When I was a teen it was all about cards from secret admirers. I don’t see the point in giving/receiving cards when you already know the person fancies you because they are already your partner or spouse and it has definitely never occurred to me to be a celebration for parents to their children or vice versa. The kids get birthdays and Christmas, I don’t think they need any other special days 😂

I blame the instatwats for this nonsense. Awful people like BrummyMummy making every occasion into content that has to involve their kids, and usually copious amounts of sweets and tat from B&M.

Except my mum used to do it in the 80s before she was an instatwat

Jellybunny56 · 11/02/2026 20:16

Ah I see the fun police found this thread😂

Nothing at all wrong with involving kids in Valentines! It’s a day about love and that does not have to just be romantic love, lots of people celebrate it with their friends and yes, their children.

My husband gets both me and my daughter some flowers and we’re going to go out for a nice walk and for some lunch. We’ve been making Valentines cards/plates etc this week because she loves painting/colouring etc.

Aw that sounds lovely - a nice day out for you and DD!
we are taking 8 week old DD to her first bay sensory session. It’s a Valentines themed one and she’s started being so much more engaged over the past week so she should enjoy it. It also gets DH and I out the house and we’ll go for some lunch afterwards. So a treat for all of us.

Thank you - and you all have a lovely time 🙂 - gosh, dd is almost 7 now. It goes so fast honestly!!

when she was that age, I would tie a helium balloon to her ankle and watch her kick to make it move - she loved it 🥰

Valentine’s Day is intended to anonymously tell someone you like them. In a romantic way.

That’s it.

Its SO creepy to do something for your kids..

Says who?

Bingbangboo · 11/02/2026 20:15

Our dog has bought our daughter a card with a picture of her (the dog) on and a box of chocolates. I am a marketer's dream!

Newbie8918 · 11/02/2026 20:15

Ohfuckrucksack · 11/02/2026 20:11

Not sure why you would tell children the story of St Valentine:

"Valentine was arrested, beaten, and beheaded for refusing to renounce his faith and for his defiance of the Emperor."

I prefer picture books myself - not of this subject matter though

Also know for his belief in love and marriage and strengthening Christian families.

Any excuse to spark some joy.. why are people so against things like this?

I think perhaps because it's not actually joy - it's made up consumerism which is pushed more aggressively every year to make us spend money. Like Christmas, like Easter, like Halloween, like Mother's Day.

Get yourself on hinge then you won’t be single by Saturday!

😂😂😂 I imagine I’d have to go on quite a few ‘coffee dates’ to get an actual date and shag tbh

So now I'm curious... do little kids not exchange silly valentines at school like this?

To ask what you’re going to do for your child(ren) for Valentine’s Day?

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 11/02/2026 20:09

Sack them off to their grandad’s house and hope they don’t have another sibling in 9 months time!

The last bit is a joke, but the first bit isn’t. I think my step mum is baking with them and my dad is taking them swimming so they’ll do something fun. In exchange for him having them this weekend we are dog sitting for him and my step mum next week as they’re going away for a (cheaper) “Valentine’s Day” get away.

Edited

Damn it you got there first 😂

GregoryFluff · 11/02/2026 20:12

I popped in Spar for some milk earlier and saw they were selling chocolate roses, they were really sweet. Probably grab one for each of my girls tomorrow
Might do a Valentines craft
My eldest brought a heart painting home from school with a little poem
Don't do anything with DH
For whatever reason people saying the word lovers makes me bloody cringe
It's just a bit of fun, have a nice weekend OP

Cheepcheepcheep · 11/02/2026 20:12

Dumping them at MIL’s so I can have a rare shag in bed rather than silently on the sofa

Kizmet1 · 11/02/2026 20:12

I've got DD a card and chocolate heart, and I've asked DP to get her a little bunch of flowers if he gets me one (nothing wild, just some carnations or daffodils.
It's just a nice little thing to do.
