I might take dd to the cinema to see and then to Nando’s and to a bakery for a cupcake. Will need to find a flower shop to buy her one red rose

I hate that it’s on a Saturday, I really don’t wanna see young teens out on dates while I’m chronically single 😂

will you do anything? No judgement if not, it’s just me and dd so I like to do this stuff

plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

edit to see either Gaby’s dolls house, zootropolis 2 or The Goat (kids cartoon) - not sure which 🤷‍♀️

I’m 38 and my DM used to give me a valentines card and a little gift every year and we’d often decorate- like people say, anything to spark some joy! She now gives my kids presents (so I don’t need to!) but I’ll do a valentines breakfast and make them a card and DH will get the same.

Weird to an adult DC. What’s weird about doing some crafts and having a heart shaped cake with a small human who says I love you every day. Sure, once they are older it becomes strange, just like Santa.

Because it’s about romance. I love my kids, but not romantic love. That’s weird 🤢

momager1 · 11/02/2026 20:28

my kids are grown with kids of their own now...but nothing...ever. Even my husband and I refused to give into the "hallmark holiday" flowers cost double that day... dinner out is also more expensive for the valentines "experience" this year.. we have two movies picked out for the tv.. I am making his fave dessert..banana cream pie.. we are having a massive starter plate of airfryed wings... chicken popsicles, tempura shrimp, spring rolls, and a chacuterie plate with crackers. Really looking forward to our couch night. with a shit ton of snacky food lol

This is another of those things that would seem really strange if it was a father doing something like this for his daughter on Valentine's Day, imo.

That’s a sad outlook. We have a baby son but if we ever had a daughter, and my boyfriend wanted to treat her on Valentine’s Day and do something lovely with her, I’d think it was gorgeous.

Our dog has bought our daughter a card with a picture of her (the dog) on and a box of chocolates. I am a marketer's dream!

Omg I forgot about our cat! Will get her some extra licky licks and play with her for longer when dd goes to bed (and I’ve had some wine)

I don't think it's creepy it's just not who the celebration is for. It would be like me buying a Mother's day card for my Husband or a birthday card for someone when it isn't their birthday.

Jumimo · 11/02/2026 20:27

Newbie8918 · 11/02/2026 20:16

Except my mum used to do it in the 80s before she was an instatwat

Well there was always likely to be somebody just as weird back then 🤷🏻‍♀️ No where near as widespread as today, have you seen the aisles of absolute tat in the shops?

Nothing because that's weird. My ex mil used to send my then husband valentine's day cards - it's really fucking weird. And yes, she was doing it 30 years ago, so it's not new - but it's still fucking weird.

Heyitsmeeee · 11/02/2026 20:26

Would never do anything for my kids on valentines day as its about romance not kids. However after being married 20+ years we don't acknowledge it anyway. Always thought its a pointless day, I love him and tell him so all year round 🤷‍♀️

Barney16 · 11/02/2026 20:26

I did try once but all my children went eugh and various variations on mum you're so embarrassing, so that was the end of that. Whole tribe born cynical.

winnerwinnertofudinner · 11/02/2026 20:25

Wtf is wrong with people on this thread, trying to make it sound creepy? Ignore them OP, I think it's a nice idea.

When I was about 10 my mum bought me some silver hoop earrings and gave them to me on valentines morning and I thought it was the most grown up and special thing in the world - and now in my 30s I still wear them.

Any excuse to make your kids feel loved and important! My little girl is only tiny still, but I plan to get her a little gift (maybe a book) and we'll likely all go out for lunch and she can chuck a few bits of pasta about for me to scoop off the floor 😅

We do Famentines-family valentines. We’ll do some games and get a take out-just an excuse for family time really x

Aw 💖

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 11/02/2026 20:24

I used to bring my boys a heart shaped cookie when I got in from work.

What when was this a child thing?!

I’m 36 now and my parents always did valentines baking with us and got us some sweets/chocolate on Valentine’s Day. So I guess it’s been a “child thing” for as long as anyone has wanted it to be.

TheActualQueen · 11/02/2026 20:23

steff13 · 11/02/2026 19:52

I always get my kids a little box of chocolates. That's what my parents did for me.

I love the "is this a new thing" posts. I have been on this site since at least 2013 and this thread comes up every single year. Just like every summer when people complain about barbecue smells and every Halloween when people complain about trick-or-treating.

Or every month when people complain about the existence of dogs! 🙄🙄🙄

Nothing.
I saw a card in my local supermarket that said " To my Mummy on Valentine's Day".
Who is going to send that? Oedipus?

This made me laugh 😂

Aw OP, some people on here are being unecessary.
My little boy is only six months so we won’t do much- did take him to Baby Sensory and it was Valentines themed which was adorable!
When he’s a bit older I’d love to do some valentines baking or crafts with him. It’s just nice to mix things up a bit and have a bit of a theme I think. Your day with your daughter sounds lovely!

Thank you 🥰

I think it’s lovely, just to celebrate love!

i’m actually surprised by the poll tbh 😂

I’ve definitely seen men doing this with their daughters! It’s lovely, shows them how to be treated in future, imo

Totally agree and so does my husband!
