Transgender individuals have significant mental health issues. Those mental health issues may well be exacerbated by having to accept that others do not share their beliefs. But it is fact that a very significant percentage of people do not share their beliefs. That does not make the views of others hate speech.
It’s akin to a religion - say Scientology. most of us would say that people are free to believe in the great space pirate god if that’s what they want but they cannot expect the rest of society to also believe that he exists or for us to change our behaviours to accommodate other Scientology beliefs or practices. Scientology is a cult. An extremist religion with very rigid practices which are at odds with the way most of society acts and which impinge on the rights of others (particularly women). Scientology hides behind the “friendly” faces of high profile movies stars such as TC whilst preying on the vulnerable for their own ends (generally cash extraction in the case of that particular cult).
Other cults exist. Ones which prey on the vulnerable for their own ends. Ones which insist on their own version of reality which it might be argued is more bizarre than space pirate gods. Ones which go further than Scientology by insisting that everyone must believe what they believe and change their views and behaviours to accommodate them,
This is not the thread for a deep discussion about trans people in general. It’s a shame that the marketing team has descended. The point was a valid point about the way in which this tragedy was reported. The fact remains that innocent people have lost their lives. The person who did this has severe mental health issues. We cannot keep denying that people who are transgender have a very serious mental health issue (albeit that of course nobody is saying that all transgender people go out and commit acts of appalling violence)
