What are you asking for?

Preformative thoughts and prayers?

You can open a specific thread if you feel this one is failing your expectation.

I have been clear I thought it was a general info newsy thread.

No doubt if I did start another it would be likewise taken over.

Probably more…. Stop talking about the issues behind this?

Absolutely, that's the real motivation behind the pious scolding that posters should be focusing (ONLY!!) on how tragic it is for the victims.

I was hoping to find out more given that the thread is in AIBU, not FWR, and is called "at least 7 dead after school shooting in BC". I thought it might be a news and information focused thread....

Google is your friend normally...

This thread is pointing out that you are better off on X or here to fact check what the MSM are pushing as news and information.

Swiftie1878 · 12/02/2026 10:24

It is VERY important that this crime is NOT classified as having been committed by a woman.
Anyone who doesn’t understand that is deluded.

AnSolas · 12/02/2026 10:20

Dannexe · 12/02/2026 08:04

That’s clearly a typo/error though

Wot?

the editor was off getting coffee when the intern pressed upload or copy/paste/upload

It is unprofessional and clearly whoever originally wrote that placed the killer in the classification "victim" to have moved from killers/shooters/suspects mother

Jimmy5bellies · 12/02/2026 07:33

I have looked at loads of pages of this though not the full thread. Almost every post I read is about the reporting of this person as "female in a dress" and how these are not women's crimes, moving on to more general posts about definitions of women, transgender people as mentally ill, in a cult etc.

Are there any posts that focus on the tragedy and the victims?

What are you asking for?

One wonders if some posters ever stop to consider that the bile, vitriol , hate speech and lack of understanding that the transgender community face on threads such as this escalate MH difficulties and tragedy.

Yep

MN drove a man to pick up a gun and kill

He shot and killed his mother

He shot and killed his stepbrother

He shot and killed 3 girls in his local school

He shot and killed 2 boys in his local school

He shot and killed a woman in his local school

He shot and tried to kill 25 other people in his local school

He terrorised the rest of the survivors in the school

He terrorised the whole community as they will all have had family and/or friends in that school and likely know his mother and stepbrother too.

But its not the failing of the Canadian health care system

Or the justice system which allowed licensed guns to remain in the home

Or his fault as he could have unpluged from SM if that was a contributing factor to him choosing to take a gun and kill and attempt to kill.

But you do you.

Around 10% by women, so the impact of a single AMAB murderer's crime being attributed to a woman is a statistically significant increase.

In other words, if women in Canada kill at the same rate as in the UK (and the figures seem to be roughly equivalent in developed Western nations), that[s around 80 people a year killed by women. This year that will be up to 90, a 12.5% increase.

Arraminta · 12/02/2026 09:47

ChickenCooper · 12/02/2026 07:46

@ThatCyanCat you are incorrect in this post. I did not at any point say that 'women using the word "man" for a male person as equivalent to a massive shooting.'

I was calling out the trans hate on this thread in response to posters stating that trans people are mentally unstable and using words like cosplayers, nuthouse, madness, altar of stupidity, insane etc.

But it clearly is a mental illness. If I insisted I was a unicorn and insisted I be treated as a unicorn and insisted everyone recognise me as a unicorn, I would obviously have mental health issues.

In less flippant terms, anorexia is a mental health issue as is body dysmorphia, and it is treated as a mental illness.

And of course transwomen are cos playing at being women, hence the fetish of only wearing ridiculously over-feminused clothing and tonnes of make up. No greying Sloggi knickers or baggy cardigans for them. No tucking their hair up in a pony tail and braving Tesco without make up on.

Nope, it's all satin push-up bras, high heels, dresses and lashings of lipstick. On a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Helleofabore · 12/02/2026 09:46

A question I have is, is that trans guns subreddit category for people with transgender identities who have a love of guns?

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 12/02/2026 09:39

SaturdayNext · 12/02/2026 09:03

There are around 500 murders in the UK alone every year, the vast majority carried out by non-trans people. Yet this event needs two long threads on MN, both of which fail to focus on the tragedy of the deaths but go on and on about the fact that the killer was trans.

There are some really strange values around here.

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 12/02/2026 09:22

That town is a tiny, tiny place. Everyone knew who the shooter was, they'd known him for years. The police /media description is a red herring.

He didn't own guns illegally- he lived in a rural community where hunting was normal. Probably most kids in that school can shoot and have access to guns.

SpaceRaccoon · 12/02/2026 09:18

This is why this thread is needed - one hour ago from the Mirror, and you'd never guess it was a man that did it.

Not our crime.

Yes... it was on the media linked in the threads that you have been keen to claim is not focused on what you want them to focus on.

Indeed, our very own bbc has been reporting it.

And what are the figures like proportionally wise?

We should look at the causes of these crimes, but as soon as a trans person is involved, let's forget about it and focus on everything else?

You aren't discussing issues are you?
You are reiterating the same talking points as on every such thread.

I have sympathy with the need for accurate reporting and the "not our crimes" angle. However I also wanted to find out about the victims, the circumstances, the possible motivation, the community as a human tragedy has taken place.

Jimmy... the internet is full of the information you seek.

If this thread is not giving you the information you seek, perhaps you should either find it and post it yourself here as has been suggested.

Many links have already been provided on these very threads you are disparaging as being not what you want.

This post actually clarifies that your intention was to shame others for discussing issues in a way you disagree with. Thanks for that.

When the public is being told that a female person has committed a crime that a male person has committed, yes, people talk about how they have been told misinformation.

People can still discuss this as being an issue while still feeling horrified that it has happened. Do you believe that at this time all that anyone should be doing is publicly performing their horror? Or is there room for all reactions?

Darvo much?

One post is an attempt to control 15 pages?
Your gang pile on every such post and control the narrative of every thread where a trans person is involved.

I find the useful summary of reporting on Mumsnet with linked articles, share tokens etc a useful way of getting the news quickly and enjoyably. But not on this thread.

The incident has been very widely reported and analysed by media around the world. Why would you attempt to control threads discussing different aspects of the incident and the reporting to suit yourself? You have the internet at your fingertips if you cannot find commentary that you want to engage in. Yet you took to time to post your complaint here.
