Spa day alone

Would you?

I think it sounds like heaven. A massage and facial, a sauna, hydrotherapy pool, sitting on a heated recliner in a dark room with no expectations from anyone else. Just time dedicated to relaxing.

My friend thinks it’s weird and going to the spa is something you do with friends and would be boring alone. She says just book a massage somewhere else rather than the spa if I want one.

Is it weird to go alone?

She doesn't sound like she has confidence and the ability to be in her own company. There's nothing finer than being in a spa alone!

Chameleonchange · 10/02/2026 08:29

Your friend sounds as though she is very insecure and immature if she needs her pals there to validate the experience.

Fends · 10/02/2026 08:25

I go every week at least once. I have a membership, as do many others. Your friend is the weird one!

Terip · 10/02/2026 08:24

Of course I would - in fact, it’s sometimes better alone.

Your friend sounds like one of those people who doesn’t have the confidence to do things independently.

Rightsraptor · 10/02/2026 08:22

I wouldn't have thought spa days are supposed to be 'fun', more relaxing, indulgent, luxurious or something. Anyone wanting fun might be better doing something else.

There are quite a few posts I see here abut whether it's weird to do things alone - go to the cinema being another one. I'll always do things by myself, including foreign travel, and don't understand people (women) who view it as odd but it does lead to some interesting conversations.

I feel a bit sorry for those who don't do things solo.

Sounds amazing

ikeepforgetting · 10/02/2026 08:14

I would absolutely hate to do a spa day with other people. I did one last week (xmas present) and I napped, read a book, hopped in and out of the sauna/pool, treatment, another nap. If I had to co-ordinate with anyone else when would I nap?!

ClashCityRocker · 10/02/2026 08:13

Currently lying in a large comfy bed all to myself at a lovely spa hotel awaiting breakfast.

It's bliss. Had a lovely day yesterday spa-ing, wonderful massage, good meals and just chilling with my book and a glass of wine.

I have a great husband, great family and friends, several of which would be happy to join me. Sometimes it's just nice to do exactly what you want to do without any consideration for anyone else.

Heaven. I have done this, and it was dreamy. I’ve also done a spa day with a friend and my DM, and much as I love them, my idea of relaxing categorically involves not talking to people, so on my own is best. Also when on holiday if the hotel has a spa I always spend some time there, on my own as DH isn’t interested.

notacooldad · 10/02/2026 08:08

Ive always preferred it when ive gone by myself.

bumphousebump · 10/02/2026 08:07

I prefer them on my own to be honest! Take a book.

DaisyChain505 · 10/02/2026 07:56

I often do this. Nothing wrong with it at all.

CherryBlossom321 · 10/02/2026 07:53

“Just book a massage somewhere else”. “No thanks, I think I’ll take advantage of all of the other facilities and enjoy the peace for a few hours!”

MyThreeWords · 10/02/2026 07:51

I've done a couple of spa days alone. Loved it. I don't think I would enjoy going with friends. Much less relaxing.

cateringday · 10/02/2026 07:49

I do it once every few months I love it

Bluehead · 10/02/2026 07:45

Thanks everyone.
I think she just thinks it would be more fun with others. I’m not actually looking for fun 😆 I just want a bit of pampering and quiet and not to have to consider anyone else’s needs!

You can add it to the list of many things that are completely normal to do alone and the only weird one is the person who thinks it is weird or at all noteworthy to do any of these things solo. This includes eating out, going to the pub, theatre, cinema or on holiday.

Lurkingandlearning · 10/02/2026 07:23

Not weird at all. Thinking people are weird just because they are different to you, is weird. Your friend is a wierdo.

lemondropsandchimneytops · 10/02/2026 07:22

We were staying at an fab spa hotel and it was a choice of either go to the spa alone while husband looked after toddler, or not go at all. I went. Was lush. Would recommend.

rubyslippers · 10/02/2026 07:22

A two day solo spas break was one of the best things I ever did for myself
was absolute bliss
go for it

chunkyBoo · 10/02/2026 07:20

Yep! I much prefer to go alone, perfect day!

Latenightreader · 10/02/2026 07:11

Blissful on your own.

Does your friend also find it strange when people go to the theatre or cinema solo? Some people were really shocked that I do this.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 10/02/2026 07:07

My friend has a season pass to a spa. She goes alone a couple of times of week and just chills out in the pools, sauna etc., and relaxes. I'm a bit jealous of her to be honest!

WelcometomyUnderworld · 10/02/2026 07:05

I’ve done many spa days on my own.

I actually think spa days with friends are weirder, the point is to switch off and relax, and they’re quite quiet places so all much easier to do on your own.

Nugg · 10/02/2026 07:05

Yes absolutely I had vouchers so I’m about to!! Enjoy
