Spa day alone

Would you?

I think it sounds like heaven. A massage and facial, a sauna, hydrotherapy pool, sitting on a heated recliner in a dark room with no expectations from anyone else. Just time dedicated to relaxing.

My friend thinks it’s weird and going to the spa is something you do with friends and would be boring alone. She says just book a massage somewhere else rather than the spa if I want one.

Is it weird to go alone?

I love a solo spa. I go to a college twice a month. £30 for a full body massage and an hour in the spa. Perfect.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 10/02/2026 11:52

Bloody hell, a solo spa day is my idea of perfection.

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 10/02/2026 11:51

Go, enjoy. I’ve started doing things I want to alone - I’m not waiting for friends to have the money/time/interest and I’ve married a hermit so..

Gerbera55 · 10/02/2026 11:48

My 6mo had a day with his dad at the weekend while I went to the spa for a day by myself. It was heavenly - I read, ate (a hot) lunch with both hands, relaxed and had a massage. I got a couple of funny looks when I was eating alone from one group of women but they also completely ignored the fact that one of the pools was a quiet zone and had full blown conversations in there so I don’t think they understand the concept of a relaxing spa day to be honest!

NewYearNewJob2024 · 10/02/2026 11:41

Absolutely not unreasonable at all!!! I think I’m going to start doing this regularly!
Enjoy your day!!! :-)

SP2024 · 10/02/2026 11:39

I have because I really wanted to go, but I’d much prefer to go with friends

LLJETO · 10/02/2026 11:38

I was just thinking I might do the same. I had a lovely spa day recently with my sisters and mum as a present, but I felt like I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I probably would have done as we have been getting some major work done in the house and it was upside down and really stressful for me.

I may treat myself again as it was really lovely overall.

Diplidocus4 · 10/02/2026 11:35

Have done and will do. Total bliss for me

Ughhhhh77 · 10/02/2026 11:34

I went alone when DD was a baby and it was the nicest day. I took a book but didn’t even read it, I just zoned out all day it was so relaxing. My friends thought I was mad I didn’t ask anybody to join me but I was so touched out I needed alone time without having to entertain or consider anybody else’s needs for the day. Enjoy OP! Highly recommended!

LadyHexham · 10/02/2026 11:28

Absolutely gorgeous alone.
Do what you want, when you want, it's great.

First time I went alone was when we had a business which required me to speak and interact with people all day.
I went alone so I didn't have to talk to anyone and loved it.

SnowFrogJelly · 10/02/2026 11:12

Yes!

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 10/02/2026 11:05

How would anyone even know? You’re supposed to be quiet in a spa. Two people shouldn’t be chatting in a sauna or in relaxation areas anyway when people are trying to unwind. It’s not a pub. I have no idea who is there alone or in pairs when I go. Your friend needs to get used to her own company, it seems! YANBU.

CuteOrangeElephant · 10/02/2026 10:50

Nope I have done it before. Loaded my Kindle full with books and had a great time.

Even when I go with a friend we don't spend the whole day together. She prefers way hotter saunas than I do for example.

Hapagirl48 · 10/02/2026 10:48

I love spa days alone. In fact my DH gets me a spa day voucher for my birthday every year and I love it.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 10/02/2026 10:44

I have done a few spa days alone - and once even included an overnight stay. Just me, relaxation, my own thoughts, some healthy food…sometimes it is much needed.

I did a spa day where I was not alone - as part of a hen weekend a few years ago - which was the first time I had not been alone. It was not relaxing at all for me. Rushing to the right room at the right time. Expectations of always part of a conversation but the people changing constantly so having to repeat lots of the conversations multiple times. Being in my bathing suit in front of a group while lying on a lounger, but not really being able to just go and have a swim (what else would you do in a pool but swim, normally?!) - if I am not swimming but actually on a lounger, I want to read my book or a magazine in peace as I so rarely get that time to do it.

i haven’t tried it with company since. But I still love a solo day when I get a chance.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 10/02/2026 10:26

The best way to do it imo. I’ve had several three or four day spa breaks on my own. It’s bliss.

nomas · 10/02/2026 09:36

Your friend should be pitied, is she also the type who wouldn’t go to a restaurant alone?

Jrisix · 10/02/2026 09:33

I prefer going alone. I have lovely friends but I go to a spa to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Unorganisedchaos2 · 10/02/2026 09:09

DH arranged a spa day for me mid week when DD was 9 months old, it was heaven, I was more than happy to have the day by myself at that point. I also know lots people who have done the same, go for it OP and enjoy

ChalkOrCheese · 10/02/2026 09:09

Is it possible she's fishing to join you x

Lindy2 · 10/02/2026 09:05

This is exactly what I did last weekend. It was lovely.

DH buys me a spa day every Christmas (it's what I ask for) and I go alone every year.

The peace and quiet is wonderful. I have never given it a second thought or felt all strange being on my own.

There's couples there and groups of friends having a nice time but I just want to fully relax and just suit myself.

thaisweetchill · 10/02/2026 08:58

Not at all, I did it once and I had the best day. I got to read my book in peace and take the whole day as leisurely as I wanted. I actually preferred it to going with friends.

Bjorkdidit · 10/02/2026 08:55

I wish more people would go alone and then the peaceful relaxing experience wouldn't be disturbed as much by those who go in pairs and groups and spend the entire time talking.

ImFinePMSL · 10/02/2026 08:51

My friend thinks it’s weird and going to the spa is something you do with friends and would be boring alone.

People with mindsets like this are usually extremely insecure (and boring themselves!). They usually don’t have the confidence or courage to do things alone so they act like someone else doing it is “weird”.

BarbieShrimp · 10/02/2026 08:46

Very, very normal. I go alone all the time, and see lots of other people there clearly doing the same. Your friend sounds envious - maybe they never found the confidence to do anything alone, or they're cursed with clingy friends/family.
