Support worker and service user had an argument due to a comment made by the support worker. The service users door had been broken by police due to a possible welfare concern. This had the not been fixed for a few days and the support worker said maybe it was because the hotel were “tried of it it. Which then in turn caused an argument. The support worker then choose not to tie up for the shift the next day. The service users lost money due to having things booked and having to pay for transport to a supermarket meanwhile despite being the instigator the support worker got full pay.

If the sevice user is paying then they should contact the provider and get a refund.

JockTamsonsBairns · 09/02/2026 00:17

Who told you the SW got paid?

plentyofsunshine · 09/02/2026 00:14

Does the service user get everything for free but still moan and complain every chance they get?

Sparklybutold · 09/02/2026 00:13

Ime sw are left dealing with clients who far exceed what the sw is able to provide, this is before burnout. From what you’ve said though there does seem to be some evidence of challenging behaviours that need some degree of consequences, such as having to wait for repair or a person deciding not to work with someone because the relationship has broken down. Zero contracts often means minimal, next to no training obligations on the service provider which means ultimately both client and sw suffer. Many sw earn so little for what the stress of the job entails - I know many who have left owing to the stress far outweighing the pay. However, you also talk about the damage to the door occurring because of a MH check? Things have obviously escalated and I’m guessing from what you’ve said this has happened before? Which suggests the care plan needs to be looked at and adapted to ensure it suits the needs of the client?

Oh well, support workers have feelings too.

It doesn't sound like the support worker did anything that bad, and it is not relevant that they got paid. They had valid reason to avoid wielding with the service user that day if there had been an altercation.

It is relavent they left. Vulnerable person without esenitals by cancelling the shift. Don’t do the work don’t get paid

Support worker may have been off sick. Sadly it does happen. The provider is responsible for sourcing a replacement if possible.

Zero hour contract so no and she said she wasn’t coming due to the services user

Are you the service user @Meandmrmen ? Sometimes it is part of the worker to challenge the service user to help them improve their behaviour, and it sounds like there is some history there.
Ultimately though no one deserves to be treated that way at work, and it sounds like the worker was at their end of their tether and took a sick day. It is unfortunate but that is what sick leave is for- don’t you think support workers deserve paid sick leave?

The welfare check was mental health related not behaviour per say.
