To ask for examples of the worst behaviour you've seen from an adult at a wedding?

Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

They were a staple challenge on the early series of "Bake Off" which is how they got popular in the UK.

I had one as my 18th Birthday cake. I'm 52 now. It was in Australia though and they were a bit of a fashion back then as i recall.

You drank too much the night before, you nearly knocked over the bride, you left the church then came back in whilst the service was taking place, you cried through the reception then left it to go to your room, you left your children in other people's care, your ex had to miss his brother's speech to try and stop you being so dramatic, you think your mil's day wasn't affected by your behaviour and you think everyone else apart from you had a lovely day ...oh yeah, you're an absolute peach!

This was one time in my life !
I never said it didn’t affect my children’s grandmothers day .
My children were looked after by their father & grandmother .
This was over 20 years ago !!!!
And yes people did enjoy their day .
You’re just somebody who likes to give out .
Oh & for what it’s worth, My Ex Mil was very disappointed I separated from her son .
I’ve always been asked to every single family function they have had since .
His sister got married for a second time after we had separated ,I was invited because his brothers wedding was out of character for me , & they wanted me there because as I’ve said I AM NICE .
What is it that you called me “ A real Peach “🍑
Yip that’s me 😊

They were 'the thing' a few years ago, Aldi even sold one I think, you had to assemble it yourself!

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

Whaaaat??? Oh my! That’s comically bad. And horrifying.

@SabrinaThwaite sorry it wasn't, was the notorious '5th Ave' in Manchester. I remember you used to pay £2 I think to get in, but you'd be given a drinks token on entry which would get you a cheap bottle of beer and a vk lemon and a plastic pint glass so you could start with a power shandy

There was a point when every town and city had at least one club like this, alas nearly all of them have gone.

At my first attempt at getting married my MIL to be declared that she didn't like me and I was only after DH to be for his money
I earned nearly double his wage and had my own house and he had a massive gambling debt that they knew of but had all kept from me
We didn't say "I do"

Sounds like she inadvertently did you a huge favour!

Oh for goodness sake! The poster was quite clearly accepting that she was in the wrong in her original post. I’m quite sure it didn’t happen last week and I’m sure it doesn’t happen every day. It was a mistake. It was a lapse of judgement. It was a fuck up. And this is supposed to be a light hearted thread for everybody to enjoy. And I definitely have been enjoying it, especially as I’m stuck at home unwell but posts and judgement like yours really do take the fun out of it all. Get off your high horse.

My twins are 24 now , so no not recent events .
I too thought a light hearted thread , that’s why I wrote in with my story .
As I said I’m not someone who really drinks ever & that’s what led to the disastrous day !
There is always people on every thread who like to be miserable & give out 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Hope you feel better soon pp ☺️

I wonder why it was then at the wedding that it happened when they obviously knew each other as colleagues already - or was she a colleague of the bride?

maybe the romance of the day and everyone dressed up?

I was at a funeral where I watched in real time the local sleazebag hit on the grieving (very wealthy) widow. He was so blatant that I nudged DH and said 'look at [name] move in on her].

They married 3 months later.

It's her 4th marriage and she outlived all the other 3. So a watching brief, perhaps.

Wow! So stuffing confetti down the bride’s top must be a thing. I thought I was the only one. How utterly bizarre!

a friend did that to me..She was so rough that she ripped my dress

Not a problem at the reception and not randy like the other comments but....

My friends from high school were finally getting married. It was great on the lead up to the wedding which was delayed for 2 years because her grandmother and aunts needed to hand embroider the dress as her family was Ukrainian and very traditional. Despite this and getting married in the Eastern Orthodox Church (so very Catholic) it had been agreed that the service would be all in English as the groom wasn't Ukrainian or even Catholic. The priest would do one blessing in Ukrainian and then the standard English ceremony lasting about 15 minutes.

Come the day of the wedding the priest was called away to give last rites to some old boy and a different priest agreed to do the ceremony. Two hours worth of wailing and chanting in Ukrainian and Latin complete with waving incense about. We told our groom friend that we would vouch for him if he wanted an annulment on the basis that he didn't know what was happening throughout the ceremony as apparently the first part was baptising him as a Catholic.

Eastern Orthodox is completely different to Catholic. In fact it exists because the broke away from the Catholic Church in the 3rd century. It wouldn’t have had Latin I wouldn’t have thought.

Im not being an arse, I’m ND and studied theology so find it hard to not respond!

Not good not being able to understand any of your own ceremony though!

I decided not to have bridesmaids or flower girls at my wedding. One of my cousins was very offended by this. On the day she turned up with her daughter dressed in a flower girl dress. She even had a little bouquet. Her son was in a 3 piece suit, complete with tails😳. Moving on to thr reception, her brother, who has rsvp'd to say he couldn't make it, turned up with his wife and their 3 dc. No place settings because he'd said they weren't coming. To top it off, he'd come straight from his shift as a bus driver, and was still in his uniform...

Edited

What happened about the no place settings ,?
I always wonder what happens when people turn up and there's no meals for them

Yes, I couldn’t work out from original comment whether she was a colleague of the bride or the groom; i.e. did they meet for the first time at the wedding? It’s the stuff of romance fiction.

I was at a wedding, where the groom fell massively in love with a colleague, who was also a guest.
I saw this, it was really like a lightning strike.
The couple marrying had been together for 8 years.
It was incredibly sad.

Oh, he'd have had his reasons. It's just that the wider family have not been informed about it. Maybe the dad didn't even tell his daughter in case the reason was even more upsetting. Maybe he couldn't stand his new son-in-law, but kept his thoughts to himself and his daughter had no idea.

Maybe he has a secret health condition that he hasn't even told his daughter about, never mind the wider family. Or a secret alcohol problem.

Maybe he has severe anxiety and just had to run, and the daughter isn't aware of the extent of it because her dad doesn't want her to know, but he put himself through the main father of the bride duties for her sake.

Maybe his other half had just told him she wanted to split up or regretted marrying him (or whatever other awful revelations could prompt someone to just leave suddenly).

In families, you just never know what's going on in someone's life unless you're living in their home and witnessing the day to day goings on for yourself.

…or he could be as odd as two left feet 🤷‍♀️

YOU don't sound like a nice person, did you have to hijack all the attention on a wedding that wasnt yours?

I would never uttered a word to you either, as in, ever again!! Dreadful behaviour at someone’s wedding!

Yes, but as someone whose mil did this, the difference is telling people .

It's not fair to leave without a word to anyone, spark a manhunt and leave people panicking. A simple "I'm not coping" it's time to leave would suffice. People might be disappointed, but they'd ultimately accept it.

To the pp poster who is having second thoughts about opening a wedding venue after reading this thread, definitely replace the high alcohol wines low alcohol and alcohol free versions!

A very well known (BBC type) guest spat at the venue manager who asked him to extinguish his cigar. (Very notable/landmark type of venue). Then followed with a sea of expletives, telling said venue manager they would have no job in the morning, as the world’s best security escorted him downstairs and left him on the floor, external to the site.
Venue manager was a much younger me. I remained there for a further two and a half years & received the biggest box of chocolates I had ever seen from Fortnum’s with a huge bunch of flowers from the happy couple on the Monday morning. Turned out they barely knew this guest but had caved under pressure from the father of the Groom.
Still chuckle to myself when I see this guest on tv behaving as if butter wouldn’t melt 😂

Do tell?

Eastern Orthodox. But as I always understood it that is more like Catholic than Church of England.
