Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Drink, drugs and the chief bridesmaid shagging the best man with the door open spring to mind. 😳

I wasn't a guest I was working at the time. But we were hosting a very fancy Asian wedding reception and everyone was dressed up to the nines, except for one guy who came dressed in a tracksuit and sat in the lobby harassing the waitresses as they carried food between the kitchen and reception. He grabbed my arm as I walked past to try and chat me up so the manager ended up telling him to pack it in and move from the lobby.

And then about half an hour later a massive fight broke out between him and some guests from the wedding because apparently he'd been chatting up someone's young teenage daughter. It turned into a punch up and the police had to be called and everyone had to leave. It was awful, one of our bar staff had to be taken to hospital because she'd been punched in the head during the commotion.

I did a google - my conclusion is Attenborough as others have been guessed and dismissed. I hope it’s not.

😲 You leave David Attenborough alone! PP's confirmed it was David Starkey.

Name begins “Sir”.

Studied at Cambridge.

Has hosted many tv series & had many books published… had a bit of a media fracas a good while ago following some ill-judged/offensive comments, but career very much continued…

David Starkey?

I once went to a wedding where the groom began his speech with “Let me introduce you to…my FIRST wife” if at all possible, it went downhill from there…

My DH did that....😲

Why would “anxiety” turn you into such an attention seeking twat? Is that so she could
cover herself when pulled up for being a fanny? “I’m ANXIOUS!! I can do what I want and people have to accept it!!”

Yep, totally agree. My bridesmaids were complete twats, behaved like sulky children all day. One was (now ex) best friend and the other my sister. Apparently they were anxious. Nope. You were not the centre of attention for 5 minutes. I have a whole list of the selfish crap they pulled individually that day. Utter arses

Bikergran · 09/02/2026 08:36

Over 52 years ago, my dad's cousin, as she came up to me in the receiving line on MY wedding day, said "You look very tired and pale, dear!" What obnoxious bitch says this to a bride? My mother said later that apparently she was always jealous at weddings as hers had been a hurried wartime registry office do. If I'd known, I wouldn't have invited her. She's dead now, and it STILL annoys me!

kavalkada · 09/02/2026 08:35

I’ve been to several. At one wedding where I was the maid of honor, I fainted right before the bride said “I do.” It was very stuffy in the church and you could barely breathe. I didn’t even know I had fainted until I saw the photographer and the priest throwing holy water on my face.

At another one, my cousin’s husband grabbed me on the dance floor and deliberately, roughly put his hand on my breast — not by accident. I slapped him, after which everyone told me that I know what he’s like and that I have to understand it.

At a third wedding, the groom got drunk and, at the moment when he was supposed to use a knife on the krokant (a cake that is broken at weddings in my country), the candle turned and caught the bride’s dress on fire, so we had to pour water on her.

No fighting and probably tame but this still pisses me off over 6 years later.

It was DH and I second marriage we had around 50 guests to a lovely hotel where we also had the ceremony. We had two long tables and on our table was all of our nearest - our kids, parents, DH Grandchild. As anyone who has planned a formal sit down meal knows you can agonise over the seating plan and DH wanted his DD and Grandchild opposite us on the table. We walked in to the meal to find that his 'D'D had totally changed the seating to put herself and Grandchild at the end of the table. Now sitting opposite us was his other DD (who is lovely) with her weird new BF who sat bang opposite me and next to my Mother. He didn't speak a word to any of us and sat there with a face like a slapped arse throughout the entire thing. He is on all of the photos of us giving our speeches, I still seethe whenever I look at them - imagine going to a wedding and switching the seating around.

DH Daughter has form for thinking the world revolves around her and I wonder if I had moved her top table around when she married a year earlier how it would have gone down. Like a cup of cold sick I imagine.

Probably several candidates with that kind of behaviour, to be fair 😊

My wedding . Sat on the loo when I hear an almighty argument/ fight start outside the stall. A friend of DH's had just discovered his wife shagging one of the catering staff, catering staff's girlfriend ( also working ay my wedding ) followed her into the ladies loo to confront her. An honour guard of my female relatives pulled them apart and got me out of the loo. All parties then invited to leave.

EdithBond · 09/02/2026 08:20

Groom was a no-show. Bride in tears at reception (which went ahead)
Best man so pissed his ‘speech’ was a car crash
Bride powdering her nose in toilets

Dollymylove · 09/02/2026 08:10

Reading this mostly hilarious and sometimes very sad thread, I have concluded that the mumsnet view that seems to paint men as always the problem with horrible behaviour is a myth .
Women are just as bad, especially when copious amounts of (free) alcohol are involved 🤣

My best friend at our wedding was Maid of Honour and wanted to choose her own dress which was fine with me

it was a low key wedding in the back garden and local church, so not a big formal do.

she wore a red mini dress which some of the guests thought was off. I did not care at all, looked pretty cool in the photos too, but my MIL and in-laws still talk about it 20 years on 😁😁

Oldglasses · 09/02/2026 07:48

FIL got up on stage w the band and started singing.
Not ‘bad’ behaviour but totally cringe (was my wedding!).

BlossomLeaves · 09/02/2026 07:44

DH’s best friend at our wedding, for context he’s never liked me but was invited anyway.
Lots of little irritants during the day like moving place settings, being rude to guests etc but the one that endures was him sticking his fingers up to the camera on the background during our first dance ruining all the photos. We don’t speak to him any more…

howrudeforme · 09/02/2026 07:36

In the early ‘80 some distant relative (groom) marrying a girl his parents didn’t like. So only about 15 people in the room and the bride had to wait outside on the fire escape and only allowed in for bits of the ceremony. The family treated her appallingly and her mum and dad could only sit there and watch on.

SaturdayNext · 09/02/2026 07:36

My cousin has had three weddings. For one of them, her mother had bust a gut making the bridesmaid's dresses and the cake, and had done lots more to help. Groom's mother did nothing. Groom used the whole of his speech to bang on about wonderful his mother was, no mention of the bride or her mother.

Guess what, his view of the purpose of marriage was basically that his wife would look after his mother. Reader, it didn't last.

MantleStatue · 09/02/2026 07:30

I've said a few of mine on MN before.

Cousin's wedding. She had a sister who always had to be the centre of attention. Sister said as they were all getting ready 'If i faint this will be my day, not yours' with glee. She subsequently did the most delicate lady-like 'faint' during the speeches where she was able to carefully ensure that she didn't end up in the soup. Then got up and yelled out to everyone 'Well, she might be married, but I'm pregnant'.

And one where the best man gave a speech saying 'women are like frying pans- you have to warm them up before you put in the fat'.

My own wedding where one of DH's friends shoved bottles of champagne from the tables into his jacket and his wife's bag and hissed at us 'Go grab some champagne... it's FREE' (no it wasn't- we were paying for it).I came to realise that he has form for cheating. When we would go out for dinner we would split the bill but he'd pinch the receipt saying he'd 'claim it on expenses'.

James Corden walking around the reception area (wedding at big posh hotel - he was a hotel guest, NOT a wedding guest) talking very loudly into his phone, making sure everyone could see (and hear) him!

He is annoying.

An idiot dropping a bag of coke out of his pocket on the dancefloor where toddlers were dancing and inadvertently tried to pick up

At a friend's wedding the groom put a pool table through the window at the evening reception then proceeded to put all the buffet leftovers into a black bin bag in case he got hungry later. I called to their house the next day and they were arguing over the bin bag. He tried to get me to convince her that the mangled mess was still edible. They're divorced now.

At DP's nieces wedding we overheard MOG talking to her sisters about how it wasn't such a disaster because DN actually scrubbed up quite well. That would be DP's niece, the model.

How did one man lift a pool table?

This thread brings a whole new meaning to the term "a knob of butter".

Interestedinapathy · 09/02/2026 06:53

@FlappyThing I need to know did he butter the roll or his penis?
