Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

My father’s whole speech was about the fact that we’d been living together before marriage and he didn’t approve. No congratulations, no welcome to my husband’s family. Just shock and humiliation all round.

He’s not even religious. Just wanted everyone there to think he was ‘respectable’. Classic narcissist. Neither he nor my mother have ever apologised.

Name begins “Sir”.

Studied at Cambridge.

Has hosted many tv series & had many books published… had a bit of a media fracas a good while ago following some ill-judged/offensive comments, but career very much continued…

Sir David Starkey? He seems the cigar type

I used to work in the Town Hall building next to the Registrar room.

It was always fun when Border Control / Immigration stormed the building for sham marriages. We never got a tip off either, they just barged in unannounced.

Apparently the easiest way to tell it was a sham was the size of the brides wedding ring - they were always massively too big 😆.

I went to a wedding where during the speeches at a very family orientated wedding, the best man pulled out a 24" double ended dildo and swung it around his head before dropping it on the top table in front of the horrified MOTB. He then passed out cock rings to the bride and tried to lead the guests in a rousing sing song of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" but he didn't know the words and stumbled along until the na-na-na-na part in the chorus. Same wedding where the FOTB stumbled over his speech and said nothing nice or of note about the bride. During the evening do, one distant uncle decided he wanted to do karaoke and sang along to Red Light Spells Danger (despite there being no karaoke!) and at the end of the night the groom dropped the bride in the bridal suite to fend for herself, before spending the rest of the wedding night getting coked up in his best mans room. They're separated now, funnily enough.

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

That's no excuse though.

There were some funny things going on at my wedding.

First, my mum who was not at all helpful leading up to the day, made a fuss about having to walk 5 mins to the ceremony from the hotel. So we organised her a ride, but when it was time to leave for the ceremony, she was nowhere to be found and did not answer her phone! When she was finally found hiding in her room, she came down noisily blaming everyone else for the fact that she was late.

Then we had some friends who didn't turn up until late in the evening, didn't say hello to me at all, managed to upset several other guests (slander the company the groom works for in front of several colleagues, hint that the best man and best friend of my BBC husband is a racist), and then left!

I've always supposed that it's not the 'fresh air' as such, it's the fact that you start moving about more. Usually when you're drinking hard you are sitting down in a room and it's when you start walking outside that the physical activity makes you notice that everything is going round and round and your legs won't obey you and...whoops.

It happens to me when I’ve been dancing though or on my feet all night.

😲 You leave David Attenborough alone! PP's confirmed it was David Starkey.

@NotDarkGothicMama

I don't think it can be David Starkey, as the individual in question was described as a "Sir", which Starkey isn't (he has a CBE.)

Poodlelove · 09/02/2026 12:02

My Dad aged 80 was an absolute knob at son's wedding.

He definitely wasn't there to see his Grandson get married , we have now got non contact as his behaviour has been appalling. He also doesn't actually care and we have suffered two forms of abuse in the past from him as children.

When the couple got back from honeymoon, and the wedding photos were due to be delivered, the photographer phoned the bride (my friend) and asked her to come in to the studio
He showed her some shots where the bride was with the bridesmaids one by one ... and in the background of a few, the groom had his hand up the bride's 15 y/o cousin's skirt

That is horrible. What happened afterwards?

Credit to the photographer. Some would have just quietly deleted the photos.

Didimum · 09/02/2026 12:01

My own wedding. 17 years ago. A friend who was commonly known to drink to excess and use drugs. He can and used to rein it in where appropriate, and we thought he would for the wedding.

Nope.

He got rowdy, abusive, started a punch up with someone. We had 6 groomsmen and all of them were missing for probably 1.5hrs of the beginning of the reception trying to get him under control. The worst thing he did was kept flashing people and that ended up being a child (not a guest) in the car park.

housethatbuiltme · 09/02/2026 12:00

Honestly I never realized people where such dickheads until I got married... people complained constantly, made every little thing a huge deal all about them. Its the most stressful thing I ever did and if I had to do it again I would elope.

No bar - just bottles of spirits in giant troughs of ice. The best woman (grooms best gal pal) got so drunk before her speech that she grabbed the mic from father of the bride, in the middle of his speech and it seemed like she was about to break into her own speech. However, after a bit of free styling it became very clear she was in love with the groom and a key line from the ad-hoc speech that I remember was her slurring ‘it was fucked from the start sunshine’ down the mic as she eyeballed the groom.

Oh dear, those "gal-pals" don't cover themselves in glory 😂😂😂

Omg!!! The poor bride! What a horribly cruel man

Yeah poor bride refusing to listen to other people’s feelings and railroading someone into marrying her who didn’t want to marry her. Poor bride! 🙄

Shufflebumnessie · 09/02/2026 11:55

The father of the Bride spent his entire speech talking about how his daughter was too good for the groom & he & her mother would welcome the bride back home with open arms if the marriage failed.
Following the wedding, her parents interfered in the marriage so much that couple separated a few years later.

At a close friends wedding, another friend of the bride decided to announce her pregnancy to everyone and managed to shoehorn it in to any conversation she had & loudly announce why she wasn't drinking etc. The bride was not happy!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 09/02/2026 11:54

A family wedding - Best Man’s speech referenced the groom licking the bride’s arsehole. Those exact words.

My own wedding - XH’s auntie walked up to me after the ceremony, pulled the front of my wedding dress forward and shoved a fistful of confetti down the front of my dress.

At the evening reception, my parents had arranged a singer ‘as a surprise’. It was a cheesy club singer from the Working Man’s Club my dad liked to go to. I was mortified, and stayed in the bar until he’d finished. Basically, my dad didn’t want to miss his night out, so he brought it to the wedding.

Oh, and I didn’t get any of the buffet at the evening reception. I was busy circulating and nobody thought to bring me any food or even tell me the buffet was open, so I ended up with nothing to eat.

DanBo32 · 09/02/2026 11:52

This one made me wee with laughter but I can imagine the horror on their faces & how uncomfortable they would have been.

CoffeeCantata · 09/02/2026 11:47

AIBAPC? (Am I being a pearl-clutcher?)

Some of these are horrible! I think the man who put his dick in a roll and offered to it to the elderly ladies was actually committing an indecent act and it shouldn't be trivialised.

Yes, some crude and neanderthal men will do this kind of thing...with their revolting mates, and we can only roll our eyes and avoid them. But when you involve 'non-combatants', women, or elderly people surely that crosses a line into near-sexual assault?

If he'd done that anywhere near me I'd have reported him to the police. It's indecent exposure and involving others in a sexual act. The message has got to be got across that you can't get away with that kind of thing in a public place.

FlowerFairyDaisy · 09/02/2026 11:46

A fight ensuing after the bride was caught having sex with someone who was not her brand new husband. Many more (years working in hospitality).

Springisintheairohyeah · 09/02/2026 11:46

One of the wedding party had far too much to drink too early, loudly projectile vomited over the table in front of them (and over the handbags/dresses of those unlucky enough to be sitting beside them) and had to be escorted/carried out - all during the speeches, It was red wine vomit too, which made it all the worse.

Jaq27 · 09/02/2026 11:42

Evening reception for my wedding my older sister punched my BIL (her husband) in the face. He got knocked through the doorway and was flat out on the floor.
I was very, very glad my 'genteel' new ILs had already left ...

raspberets · 09/02/2026 07:06

How did one man lift a pool table?

Presumably it was pushed into a low window, rather than hurled above his head into a large one.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 09/02/2026 11:41

CitehCitehCiteh · 09/02/2026 11:05

To add…

Why does “the fresh air” suddenly make you more drunk or very vomitty??

I’ve always wondered this🤔

I've always supposed that it's not the 'fresh air' as such, it's the fact that you start moving about more. Usually when you're drinking hard you are sitting down in a room and it's when you start walking outside that the physical activity makes you notice that everything is going round and round and your legs won't obey you and...whoops.

Me & my husband who was my newly bf had attended his boss' wedding..
The day it self was lovely.. however the evening went abit pete tong. The groom was rubbing himself up against every female he could see, ended up standing me up & spinning me around... later on i went to the bathroom the queue was big so thought I'd pop into the disabled as I needed to go (weak bladder) anyway.. as I opened the door the groom was being ridden & had one sat on his face & his hand up another... I slammed the door & quietly said to the wife "there something going on in the disabled" she said "Oh, I know.. its a lifestyle"
The marriage lasted 12 months. Both have since moved on & married other people. Whether their "lifestyle" remained i do not know!!
