Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

My family are very straight laced and none of their friends who are all professionals in advanced fields misbehave.
So my sisters wedding was a disaster thanks to my now ex husband who I was disgusted with.
He got completely rat arsed and I found him outside the marquee entrance lying on the ground covered in vomit, all the guests were stepping over him.
I've never been so embarrassed in all my life, then later he was staggering about outside and tripped over the electricity cables and all the lights in the marquee went out.
This wedding was being attended by diplomats and various other people like that.
I divorced him soon after, he'd done this more than once and I just felt it was disgusting behaviour from a grown man.

Ah…the ‘sisterhood’

My own wedding where:

I walked up the aisle in a cloud of weed smoke because my heavily pregnant addict sister who was BM (I didn't want her to be, she didn't want to be, Mum made us) decided to light up a joint as we walked in. She also refused to have her dress fitted and wore dirty old trainers under her (thank goodness) floor length dress. As soon as the meal was over she changed into a tiny vest top and denim daisy dukes and sat with a face like thunder because I wouldn't invite her drug addict, jailbird abusive boyfriend.

My brother forgetting to bring dummies and snacks for his two daughters and looking to me for a solution (food I could help with, dummies I couldn't) and refusing to go to the open shop 5 minute walk away so all my family had to leave and go home with him (my mum had booked a minibus to take them the 60 miles home because none of them would pay for a hotel).

My nana asking me over and over to ask the DJ to put "Rocking All Over The World" on at the night do - as if she didn't have legs or a mouth of her own

A guests plus one who repeatedly asked me to allow her husband in (I didn't know her, let alone her husband and we were already at capacity) and when I said no, she got wasted on red wine, passed out in the toilets and they had to call an ambulance for her.

We'd booked the room until midnight under the strict instruction to stop the music at 11:45. We were halfway through the last song at 11:35 and the DJ turned off the power and flipped the lights on because he wanted to go home early.

My cousins girlfriend who used it as a stage to loudly push for an engagement of her own and loudly moaned about our cheap and cheerful wedding to anyone who would listen and told them all how she would do it differently (I got her back 8 months later when I announced my pregnancy at a big family event, stealing her thunder - she had planned to announce her own pregnancy but as I was 13 weeks, in my late 30's and had been trying forever, I got a lot of attention and she decided to leave it another few weeks as she was only at 8 weeks herself!)

It happens to me when I’ve been dancing though or on my feet all night.

Yes, me too!

We used to go out to discos ( I am old) and dance for hours thinking that our previous time in the pubs would have ‘worn off’

The air hit us and we were drunk again! 🤷‍♀️

It’s a weird thing, just curious as to how it works!

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

WTF why do people always have to ‘account’ for bad shitty behaviour with it being mental health related!! Getca grip!!

thisoldcity · 09/02/2026 13:13

I'm going to be MOB later this year and this thread has made me decide to stay stone cold sober for the whole day 😂

Oldglasses · 09/02/2026 13:10

Also I once stole the limelight and passed out at my friends’ wedding reception. I had a really bad stomachache - said to the person next to me that I felt ill and I didn’t want to get up or I’d pass out. The next thing I was coming to and the guests were cordoned off so I could be attended to (by a guest who was a medic). I was a bit of a serial fainter so not too concerned for myself, but I completely freaked the groom out (was a small wedding and he was right there!! Once I’d recovered a bit I felt much better and tucked in to dessert!!

Frenchcremefraiche · 09/02/2026 13:06

We had 2 minor inconveniences that annoyed me.

Everyone stayed the night before (at our expense). We made a mistake with the rooms and put "Dave" in a downstairs room nearest the social areas. Dave was only there as an obligation/favour. We had a relative who struggled to walk and accidently put her near the back with stairs. As soon as we realised (and before anyone had chance to unpack) we asked Dave if he would change rooms and explained why. He refused and said he didnt want to walk that far. So instead he let an elderly lady struggle/have to constantly ask for help.

Another relative bought a dog without even asking if the hotel allowed them! The hotel did with a hefty charge which we ended up paying.

Strange how your “carefully arranged seating plan” clearly hadn’t done him the courtesy of being seated with someone he’d want to sit with - yet no doubt it managed to seat you with those whom you wanted to be with.

I imagine as the bride, she’d be at the top
table…

Jesus, we are in the process of setting up a unique wedding venue, restored building for the venue and a fair amount of accommodation on our land and this thread has me panicking.
Wonder would I get away with an alcohol free venue?????😂

@asco Massive damages deposit maybe?

Frenchcremefraiche · 09/02/2026 12:56

2 weddings I saw:

The wedding party was in the dodgy pub next to the registry office. The bride's dress was beautiful but she had made zero effort to hide the back of the bra and she was quite drunk. The men kept hugging her which we thought was odd. Just as we realised what was happening, her friends did as well. The men were taking it in turns to try to undo her bra. Understandably her friends kicked off. We quickly left after one of the women threw a pint glass. TBF I understand why that kicked off. We would have told her if we'd realised sooner. I hope she saw sense and divorced the loser who has friends like that.

The same registry office has a balcony overlooking the town square. It's common for people to have photos on there. What is less common is for grubby men to decide it's funny to wee over the balcony.

Fingalscave · 09/02/2026 12:54

My husband's cousin got married 3 months after my MIL died suddenly (so, the bride's auntie). FIL was the most tactless person ever and after the wedding reception he disappeared before the evening party. We moved to the room where the evening party was held and DH's uncle said "Your dad's back, with his harem". FIL was sitting at a table with 3 women whom none of us knew, with a grin on his face, like the cat who got the cream.

SIL and the bride were crying in the toilets as they were very much feeling the loss of their mum/auntie. DH and his uncle were furious.

NewBeginnings77 · 09/02/2026 12:49

My wedding to my 1st husband some 30 yrs ago. Our local pub had several undesirables who would have gatecrashed had we had the reception locally so we hired 2 coaches. 1 for those attending the whole day and 1 for evening guests and bussed everyone to the reception venue around 30 miles away.

Part way through the evening a stir went around, it was a woman who had walked in, fluorescent cycle shorts and crop top with make up to match. I didn't know who it was and she seemed to quickly disappear again. Until she reappeared very very drunk having tried to proposition my new husband. Turned out it was an ex girlfriend and though he hadn't seen her in years, she had arrived back in the local area and went to the pub. On enquiring why it was so empty she was told why and had got a taxi to the venue. She was chucked out, gobbing off all the way.

Many years later I was running a bar and she walked in, and I had great delight in barring her.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/02/2026 12:47

The best man (brother of the groom), who's a TV and radio celeb, tried to turn the day into a celebration of what a great guy he is. He'd made a lengthy video presentation to play as part of his speech, mainly of his favourite clips of himself on TV. And he wanged on about how he's always been there for the groom even though his life had taken a very different (glamorous, exciting) path to his office worker brother's. We were all chewing our fists willing it to end.

Articulatehamster20212022 · 09/02/2026 12:45

A woman who came on to the grooms boss, and two of the brides older cousins (50s), who were all with their wives. As in, asking them if they wanted to have sex with her, what would they do to her etc. When the men pointed out they were married and the wives were present, she said "put her to bed then fuck me". Then fell over outside and refused to get up.

Frenchcremefraiche · 09/02/2026 12:41

A guest wearing a very revealing, very tight and VERY short bright red clubbing dress. With no knickers. I spent the day wondering whether I should tell her that she shouldn't be going up and down the stairs but I didnt know her and she was a bit scary.

MrsSlocombesCat · 09/02/2026 12:40

When I married my first husband he was in the RAF and we had our reception in the club house. This was early eighties. One of the other airmen got really drunk and for some reason decided to smash up the phone box. Nobody really enjoyed it after that.

Pomtoo · 09/02/2026 12:39

My wedding:
SIL turned up in what looked suspiciously like a wedding dress (image should be shown once approved)
MIL didn’t speak to me all day - I never did find out why, but didn’t utter a word to me all day despite being fine with everyone else, and she had a face like a slapped arse on all the pictures.

An uncle listening to football on his headphones during the speeches, and then loudly celebrating when his team scored a goal. There's a time and a place isn't there?

Or the MN favourite ‘this screams autism to me!’

Lorrymum · 09/02/2026 12:33

We were invited to our neighbours wedding eeception at our local village hall. Low key wedding with family providing the buffet. Unfortunately they underestimated how much food was needed and everything was cleared in a few minutes. Lots of arguments and eventual fist fights and tears.
We left and had fish and chips from a local take away.

Please do tell...

Father of the bride made a joke about bride having fat bum in his speech. Wtf

You must have been at my DD wedding, my ex husband during his speech also called here an elephant.

Not so much a wedding, but have seen a daughter dancing on the table at her own mums funeral

Wonder if this was the same funeral I went to, my Dad's cousin passed quite young (early 50's) and her daughter of course was grief stricken however she proceeded to get very very drunk and danced on the table amongst other things.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/02/2026 12:28

I only heard about this one second hand. Posh wedding, fancy reception venue where guests were staying overnight. Best man got hammered and threw up on himself, then appeared in the female duty manager’s office in his pants claiming his trousers had been stolen. Security escorted him to his room where they found his trousers and he didn’t reappear.
