Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Worst I have witnessed happened to me. Had a very difficult lead up to my wedding with my MIL and her best friend being very controlling and having a strop about the reception guest list. On the day on the wedding, right after I stepped out of the church, MIL’s best friend walked up to me and stuffed confetti down my top! Literally happened when everyone was around and there are photos of me standing there, looking down my cleavage and trying to get the confetti out. Who does that?!?!

Not you as well! Wonder if was the same woman?

This thread is like a bumper edition of Shameless

Went to a friend of DH's wedding - marquee in their small back garden. One guest was a man who lived 2 doors away - and he was flirting like mad with all the women, In the end 3 of them went back to his house - one came back (clambering over the wire fence and ripping her dress) and asked me if I wanted to join them as they were having group sex. I declined.

One of the women had a child with autism who get extremely distressed because he didn't know where she was and in a meltdown whacked another child in the face with a toy sword causing a deep cut across his cheek.

One of the group-sex women came back and tried to make off with some bottles of drink, and then two aunties went round and told them all to come back and care for their children - and confirmed that they were all having group sex.

The women came back and then when later the man tried to come back one of the grooms men punched him in the face and banned him from the wedding.

Wow and gross

He was just showing off his Mother’s Pride.

NoYourNameChanged · 09/02/2026 15:13

A physical fight between two women, then their respective boyfriends too. There was a 1 year old being held when it all kicked off who went flying and had to be scooped up by a relative stranger, it was fucking awful. I was mortified for the bride and groom who were the loveliest, least-like-this people in the world.

My mum and two sisters made their own breakfast (nothing for me!) and sat in another room, drinking my champagne and bitching about how I shouldn’t marry by now-husband the morning of my wedding. That was nice. I’m LC with both sisters, and still VERY happily married to DH.

I’ve been the problem at a wedding before. First time drinking since having my then-18 months old. I got absolutely wasted and had to be carried out by 9:30. Mortified doesn’t even come close.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

Wow and gross

DHs cousins wedding...

Groom had two best men who gave a speech that was so x-rated, people had stopped laughing other than Grooms lairy football buddies, complete with animal noises and actions talking about how they'd had sex on the first date and they'd walked in on them.

One of the best men is also a major coke addict and spent most of the evening with white powder visible on his nose and chin, until groom had to put him to bed and he projectile vomited all over the room... Tried to rejoin the reception later in the evening in his vomit covered clothing.

Some of the Brides friends were from a pole fit class and the choices of clothing were questionable... And I have vivid memories of one woman in a dress with cut out panels "dancing" by running round the room in circles doing strange ballet leaps and then occasionally landing in the splits flashing her thong as if she was providing some sort of show for the rest of us.

I was glad to go to my bed!

My X brother in laws wedding, my twin boy & girl were 2.5 , they were page boy & flower girl .
I had too many drinks the night before hand ( I’m someone who never really drinks , back then & now ) .
The wedding was 4 hours away so we booked weekend away in hotel .
Anyway , as the twins were little , I was walking up the isle with them holding their hands .
When it was time to walk up , my little girl at the time didn’t want to do it , she kept crying , then I started crying ( only cause I was so anxious because I drank too much night before 🙈) .
We nearly knocked over the bride cause I was up in a heap , I just left the church with the twins to gather myself .
Came back in , stayed at back of Church .
Went to reception where I kept crying on & off like some sort of a weirdo !
Then I went up to hotel room during speeches & just sat up there crying, My Ex missed all of the speeches, he was one of the groomsmen, he was trying to talk me around into not being so upset .
I never came back down , & my Ex & his mom looked after twins for duration of wedding until it was time for them to come up to me to go to bed ..
She didn’t utter a word to me when she came into room , just gave me my children 🫣

Omg!!! The poor bride! What a horribly cruel man

He was vile. Her parents were so devastated about the marriage plans which is why they couldn't bring themselves to go. She is in a much happier relationship now - thank goodness!

PropertyD · 09/02/2026 14:52

Many years ago sitting in the church towards the back and I coud smell something...turned around and the guest behind me was changing her baby on the pew. She could see my face and wispered that she didnt want to miss the service and it was an 'emergency'. All I can remember is that she followed the bridal party out with a nappy sack on her arm.

Still - at least she didnt leave it on the pew...

TheEllisGreyMethod · 09/02/2026 14:49

Uncle of the bride was banned, turned up at the reception took the flower girl (his niece) said she wasn't being looked after properly (I'm inclined to agree as no food given to a little one for 9 hours). He was allowed to stay as fg wanted to see him.
Brother in law of the bride, sat on his own, downed 3 bottles of wine, ignored his kids. Punched said uncle square in the face at dinner.
Little kids crying everywhere.

My now ex-husband’s relatives basically stealing all my decor at the end of the night. My bouquet, the bridesmaid’s bouquets (all left on the high table because we were all on the dancefloor), the table decor, left over favours, napkin holders etc, the uncut tier of wedding cake (that we wanted to save for our anniversary) - like full on THEFT. Right in front of me. 😳.

Edited

Did you get charged for them? I know usually those things are rented, as in the décor.
If you did I hope you sent them the bill, cheeky fkrs.

rubberduck68 · 09/02/2026 14:43

At my own wedding - my dear friend's husband propositioned another friend of mine when she went outside for a smoke.

ScupperedbytheSea · 09/02/2026 14:42

My cousin's wedding. He was the groom.

He had an argument with his dad after the ceremony, and his dad punched him in the face and gave him a black eye.

At his own wedding reception 🙄

Stay classy people.

Years ago I went to a wedding evening do and the father of the bride let the fire alarm off deliberately. He was a very odd man!

Probably just wanted to go home😂

Ugh.

Why do people like that shell out for a flashy wedding, spend time and money on clothes, food, booze, venues etc...and then behave like cavemen? What does is matter if your fascinator perfectly matches your manicure if you're going to get pissed and make a spectacle of yourself.

It's really depressing. And it's not just their business - it affects lots of people.

I would love to make them sit through a video of themselves when sober. Surely they can't really think it's OK to behave like this? Can they?😮

God, I feel for catering and venue staff. They must have a really low opinion of humanity.

It was embarrassing, I had serious second hand embarrassment for the bride. You could tell by her face she was both furious and embarrassed but didn’t know how to react so just laughed. The best men and the grooms friends weren’t drinking so they were all on something else. Again can’t even remember what was said now but there were lots of sexual references and the bride and groom which were vulgar and obviously the group of men all started cheering while everyone else sunk into their chairs. The father of the bride kept telling everyone how nervous he was for the speech and then came out with that, what’s worse is the mother of the bride had already read it and made him remove stuff, so I dread to think what the original one said.

MOG heckled her son during his speech and was taken outside for fresh air by a bridesmaid. She fell on the grass then pissed herself. Someone managed to get her back to her hotel but she projectile vomited so much in reception that an ambulance was called.

Does she show her face in public since this incident?!

The shame!

This thread also explains why such a high proportion of Mumsnetters seem to hate weddings!

thisoldcity · 09/02/2026 14:24

Staff at these venues are saints coping with all of this. Someone I know used to work wedding events at various hotels but then joined the police. Said it was pretty similar in some ways!

Mizztikle · 09/02/2026 14:21

This post has highlighted the fact that mumsnet need to add more reaction emoji's. The ones they have are not sufficient for these comments😂

Rocknrollstar · 09/02/2026 14:18

We saw the groom snogging the maid of honour on the stairs.

lizziedripping98 · 09/02/2026 14:17

My own brothers. He was absolutely drunk out of his mind before the first dance, one bridesmaid was also that drunk she wet herself, 2 guests passed out in the lifts and then an ambulance had to be called because another guest collapsed in the toilets due to how much "stuff" he'd put in his nose.
I had gone home before the first dance as it wasn't a wedding in my eyes, it was a glorified piss up and i just didn't like the atmosphere. It was that bad, none of their wedding photos are after the meal.

Why on earth would you post a long winded AI response to this?

I’m interested in the impossible. When I don’t understand something I google it.
