Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

We saw the groom snogging the maid of honour on the stairs.

David Starkey is the worst person I've ever met, bar none.

My son, who was 11 at the time, was doing a reading at my sisters wedding. It was going really well until a woman burst into the church. She screamed "Who parked over my drive? My daughter needs to go to work".
It transpired a workmate of my sisters was the culprit.
I followed her home and emphasised the time money and preparation that had gone into the day. I told her I hope no-one so rude and tactless would spoil her daughter's wedding. All that was needed was a discreet word with the ushers and all would have been well!
It was all anyone could talk of at the reception.

I may have misread this story but...one of the guests parked over someone's drive, who disturbed the wedding to get the car moved and you followed the person who had been inconvenienced by the thoughtless parking home to tell them off?

But you've been distracted, that's my point. You really start to feel sick and notice how drunk you are when you stop doing it and set out to head home.

No, what you were getting at was “the fact that you start moving about more,” not distraction.

I think hitting the fresh air makes more sense and it’s the only explanation I’ve experienced first hand.

gototogo · 09/02/2026 17:40

Seen fights on a few occasions, sometimes involving the groom

Yup was awful. Groomsmen dragged him out the loos onto the dancefloor. Bride started cpr kids all watching and saw it all. Best man's parents there too as he was the grooms brother. Paramedics couldn't bring him back. We all just sat silently at the tables waiting for the police. Dj was shut down. Grooms side of the family obviously all in a state waiting for the hospital to announce him formally dead. Then the brides side of the family hurriedly started bringing around the guest book for signatures as it hadn't been done yet. Awkward. Don't do cocaine in your 40s folks because your heart won't put up with it forever.

The grooms brother?? even worse..horrific!

maydayjun · 09/02/2026 17:35

I was a plus one At a wedding years ago. The brides father got up to do a speech, by the thirty min mark people where starting to check watches, at the forty min mark there where a few coughs at the 50 min mark someone sneaked out and set off the fire alarm, everyone was evacuated, half an hour later we where all let back into the reception room and he stood up again to finish his speech! He did another 25 min. Wasn’t even a good speech

My friends wedding the night before the best man who i had never met before came up to me and said 'you do know hes gay' about the groom and he wasnt joking, i guess he wanted me to tell my friend,.we already suspected because of other things like he doesnt like sex with her, she got really drunk on her hen night and said he doesnt want sex with her and they wont have sex on wedding night anyway they got married as being married and having a big posh wedding is the way to go, its all shes wanted out of life...there is a lot more too it and deep inside she must know and he was homeless when they met and now owns half her house so hes the winner...

The best man died on the dance floor because he'd been secretly sniffing cocaine in the toilets with the groom.

I can understand the reception going ahead to feed the guests, and too late to cancel,
but why would the best man still be doing a speech ? Unless it was to apologise on his friend’s behalf?

I assumed these all happened at different weddings.

Biggles27 · 09/02/2026 17:20

at my cousins first wedding, the father of the bride was so drunk and badly behaved the vicar had to stop the wedding till he’d been removed. Later on he started a fight. Threw up everywhere after the fight was broken up. Called my cousin a whore as she was pregnant (wedding booked a year before she got pregnant so wedding had nothing to do with pregnancy - not that was any excuse but this was the 80’s so things were slightly different, changing, but some older people still believed in shot gun weddings!)

was a shitshow from start to finish

dontbeataboutthebush · 09/02/2026 17:17

My own wedding! My nephews partner showed up in an electric blue silk dress with slits cut out to the side of her nipples - all everyone kept talking about was copping an eyeful. 😂
my mother in law also wore her “funeral dress” and very proudly announced it as such to guests

The best man (brother of the groom), who's a TV and radio celeb, tried to turn the day into a celebration of what a great guy he is. He'd made a lengthy video presentation to play as part of his speech, mainly of his favourite clips of himself on TV. And he wanged on about how he's always been there for the groom even though his life had taken a very different (glamorous, exciting) path to his office worker brother's. We were all chewing our fists willing it to end.

Any clues to this one?

I'm feeling quite smug about DS as I knew it would be him from the very first post where his behaviour was mentioned. Nasty piece of work.

NadjaofAntipaxos · 09/02/2026 17:04

A friend was at a wedding where the bride and groom had invited their next door neighbours. It was a very nice country house hotel in the middle of nowhere.
There was a mezzanine balcony above the area where all the guests were seated after dinner, listening to the speeches. The neighbour couple had disappeared and everyone could hear them suddenly having a massive argument up in the balcony. One of the bridesmaids went up to tell them to pipe down as everyone could hear them over the FOG speech. She apparently interrupted them racking up huge lines of coke. They shouted at her to fuck off so the bride went up to give them a talking to. The female neighbour then proceeded to argue with the bride and punched her in the face, causing her nose to bleed all over her dress.

It happens to me when I’ve been dancing though or on my feet all night.

StarlightRobot · 09/02/2026 16:57

Wow! So stuffing confetti down the bride’s top must be a thing. I thought I was the only one. How utterly bizarre!

MaggiesShadow · 09/02/2026 16:56

My (lovely) BIL's friends were his groomsmen and genuinely awful. Got so drunk they couldn't stand, spent most of the evening throwing things at people walking by or dancing near them. One of them brought a new girlfriend who wore a white, strapless, corseted dress. Then they all had a massive screaming match at the end of the night.

Classy bunch!

At my wedding I was alerted to the fact that one of my mums neighbours was going around at the end of the night necking any leftover wine on every single table (we had 12 tables!) - be it from a bottle or a half drunk glass.

My DD did the same thing when she was about 3 after christmas dinner,.

Groom was a no-show. Bride in tears at reception (which went ahead)
Best man so pissed his ‘speech’ was a car crash
Bride powdering her nose in toilets

I can understand the reception going ahead to feed the guests, and too late to cancel,
but why would the best man still be doing a speech ? Unless it was to apologise on his friend’s behalf?

Most of the weddings I've been to have been very tame affairs compared to the ones being mentioned here! The only two cringey things I can think of are one where the caterers (who were related to the groom.) failed to turn up to the reception until pretty late in the evening, to the point where the bride's father had to buy every guest a packet of crisps. The other was a FOB speech where he claimed the bride suffered from terrible flatulence just to work in a very old joke.

Reading the stories here I'm rather amazed at the amount of coke being snorted, not to mention the number of grooms having random sex. Mind you, it's over 10 years since I last went to a wedding, so perhaps things have changed in the intervening years!
