Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

I’ve been to all alcohol free wedding - don’t do it! It turns people into teenagers, sneaking alcohol left right and center. It turned feral, the actual teenagers were drinking too as they were blackmailing the adults to give them drink. People had car boots full of alcohol and people lingered outside drinking. It certainly spiced up a boring wedding.

FWIW, I went to an AF wedding. The couple had met in AA.

Personally I loved it, because I have a history of problematic drinking so it was nice to take it out of the equation It was a glorious afternoon tea and it was just wonderful.

But, fuck me, people moaned. Thankfully it was on their own farm so it didn't matter if people snuck alcohol in vis a vis a licence for the venue. But wholly crap people were shitty about it. And left early.

Got to be the one where we left the reception and there was a fight in the car park. As we drove past we noticed it was the bride and groom fist fighting. Friends of dh not mine 😅

Forgot something from my wedding - the reception venue had floors at different levels so often up one step or down one step as you moved about. This wreaked havoc amongst the elderly guests and later the drunk ones - they were going down like nine pins. It was like the beach scene from Saving Private Ryan but without the sea, sand and gunshots!

🤣🤣🤣 Wonderful description!

They had to shut the venue down??

Yep. The staff were terrified of the wedding party’s behaviour. The whole venue was shut down with police support and no one - not even the guests who had paid to stay at the venue- were allowed back in that evening.

LancashireButterPie · 10/02/2026 09:30

I've been to two weddings where the bride was crying before the ceremony as she didn't want to go through with it.
One was my cousin's and I saw a completely different side to my Aunt and Uncle who were very much "we have spent all this money and you bloody well are going through with it". Marriage lasted less than a year.
Second was a workmate from an Asian background, her Mum and Dad threatened to have no more contact with her unless she married her first cousin. She went ahead. Ten years on she's still married, living in Pakistan and still unhappy.
So sad and unbelievable that you can lovingly raise a child to adulthood then not want them to be happy.

Our wedding was wonderful (to me) bar the bestmans speech which was awful and tasteless. Much like the stag, he’d made no effort and tried to wing it. I just cringed throughout. We don’t have much to do with him now.

At a colleagues wedding in the middle of nowhere… the Auntie had hit the red wine at 10am and just as the couple were saying their vows, she stood up and dramatically announced she couldn’t stand to watch and stormed out. We didn’t see her for the rest of the day.

The wedding breakfast ended in a fight and the entire venue was shut down by the police just as the evening guests arrived. No one was allowed back in the venue and so we had to stand around in the rain waiting for hours for taxis to arrive.

A cousin of mine married a wrong 'un who did the following on his own wedding day

  1. Made a speech about how lucky we all were to have met him but didn't mention his new bride.
2.Made a pass at some random woman at the reception who nobody seemed to know... 3.When "Simply the Best" came on he started a striptease and then got his Dad up to join in (which he did) I was BF at the time so the only sober person there. I was traumatised!

This cannot be real for sure 😂Really?? Did they stay together?

Riddo · 10/02/2026 09:24

The FOB speech at a friend’s wedding. He announced that the bride was a wog which stood for woman of God. The bride was white, the groom black. The shocked silence was lengthy and the atmosphere incredibly tense. He was always an absolute arse.

HappyMamma2023 · 09/02/2026 22:37

Lol you just reminded me my uncle did the same! I caught he and my professional photographer having stern words

Shame. We had this situation (although asked the friend to take extra photos) and it worked really well. My friend is a photographer but wanted her as a guest, not the man photographer but she took lovely photos alongside the professional (actually prefer her photos)!!

DiscoDuck40 · 10/02/2026 08:58

I'd forgotten about this until reading this thread:

At my lovely daughter's wedding to an equally nice chap, my BIL turned up in his oily mechanic overalls. Why would you do that?? Why bother to come?? What point was he trying to make? We hadn't (to my knowledge) fallen out, it was done out of pure spite.

Dollymylove · 10/02/2026 08:53

I have attended quite a few weddings over the decaded. Most went well with only a minor hitch or two. I have never witnessed any of the behaviour like the stuff I have read on this thread, I feel a bit cheated tbh 🤣🤣🤣

I was at a wedding where we were all just seated for the meal. The guy sitting opposite me seemed fine and was nice and chatty and then he just stood up and walked out. Didn’t say a word. His food came and he never returned. Found out later that he was absolutely slaughtered and realised he wasn’t going to make it through the meal so went back to his hotel and passed out. He hid it well!

Fair play to him for recognising his limits though.

Verytall · 10/02/2026 08:11

Not exactly at a wedding, but I do remember years ago working for a basement nightclub that had a reputation for being fun, but an absolute dive - back in the days where promotors could include silly drinks offers and no one worried about safety. The typical clientele were 18-21 and it was known as one of the places you'd have a good chance getting in underage too. Dress code decidedly casual, not least because you were likely to have alcopops drinks spilled over you on the dance floor.

At some point in the evening, a bride and groom walked in, in full wedding attire. Full meringue style dress, I've no idea how she even got down the stairs. They looked a right sight amongst all the students dancing to Oasis in jeans and t shirts. It wasn't long though before the bouncers had to physically remove them because despite giving them a warning for their behaviour, they started having sex in the middle of the dance floor. I remember the groom trying to swing for a bouncer and he and another guy launched him out of the fire exit, with the bride running after him screaming. I can't imagine what wedding they had that that was their after-party.

Lifelover16 · 10/02/2026 08:10

A work colleague had split up with his long term girlfriend, snd asked me to be a plus one at his brothers wedding where he was best man. I didn’t really like him, but went along with it to show some support.

He told the filthiest horrible sexually explicit joke as part his best man’s speech, too disgusting to repeat on here. The room was stunned into shocked silence for a few seconds followed swiftly by a punch up between the two brothers. Horrific and so embarrassing not only at the time but at work afterwards.

@katseyes7ha that reminded me … a snotty far flung English relative let their toddler start screaming in church … unfortunately for them, they were at a west coast Scottish wedding so about sixty people turned round and told her firmly to “get to” and one furious aunt scooped
up toddler and marched them out while Binty McGinty flapped alongside helplessly saying “don’t touch my child” “tough shite ya cunt” was the reply! Grin

Oh…another classy affair!

The best man died on the dance floor because he'd been secretly sniffing cocaine in the toilets with the groom.

Speechless….

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

OMFG!!😳

Yep, totally agree. My bridesmaids were complete twats, behaved like sulky children all day. One was (now ex) best friend and the other my sister. Apparently they were anxious. Nope. You were not the centre of attention for 5 minutes. I have a whole list of the selfish crap they pulled individually that day. Utter arses

Please tell us!

bumphousebump · 10/02/2026 07:41

Wasn’t there myself but a wedding where police vans turned up 3 times and both bride and groom were eventually carted off and several others given a warning. Way to spend your wedding night. Bar was trashed. Apparently the dance floor didn’t notice and were still belting out ‘Waterloo!’ As the hotel eventually turned the lights on. Drunk and drugs. My friends who were there, very clean living people, were appalled yet entertained.

pimplebum · 10/02/2026 07:34

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/02/2026 20:52

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

That is NOT social anxiety it’s called being an immature cunt

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/02/2026 23:24

Didn't see, but was told about it.

The groom wasn't able to get into the bathroom because the bride's male family members occupied it for 4 hours with showers, shaves, hair, everything so that they looked good and laughing that they weren't going to let him in.

When he finally got in with 20 minutes to spare, they turned the water off at the stopcock and shouted through the door that if he didn't come out right now, they were going to tell his fiancee that he'd changed his mind after being caught with a stripper on his stag (which he hadn't gone to because they'd told him he was going to be handcuffed naked to a lamp post).

He panicked, came out, his suit was missing from his room, nearly burst into tears, then had his suit thrown at him in a bin bag - and had to get dressed still unwashed & in a creased suit because his fiancee's biggest uncle had turned up to collect him and was hammering on the door to get a move on, as he was keeping everybody waiting.

The marriage didn't last.

The poor groom! What a horrible bunch of arseholes.

LlynTegid · 10/02/2026 07:01

I read through most of the thread whilst on a train journey yesterday.

I admire people who have small weddings, and the two couples I know who did this have been married for over 20 years now. This thread makes me feel that a small wedding is a good thing even more.

Some of the stories may be exaggerated I know, even so, thank you to all of you who have retold them.

Pedallleur · 10/02/2026 06:47

hilarious as this thread is, it's as though the Apocalypse was due and people just go crazy. Drugs, sex, arson, theft and that's on a good day. like something from Brassic.
