Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

I was the bride and first my dad spent the drive to the venue talking about pension plans which ruined the moment and then he went in search of a knife to cut our wedding cake with. No, it hadn’t been touched yet.

Mine told me to make sure I didn't let myself go 😬

Verytall · 10/02/2026 15:11

@SabrinaThwaite sorry it wasn't, was the notorious '5th Ave' in Manchester. I remember you used to pay £2 I think to get in, but you'd be given a drinks token on entry which would get you a cheap bottle of beer and a vk lemon and a plastic pint glass so you could start with a power shandy

At my first attempt at getting married my MIL to be declared that she didn't like me and I was only after DH to be for his money
I earned nearly double his wage and had my own house and he had a massive gambling debt that they knew of but had all kept from me
We didn't say "I do"

When the couple got back from honeymoon, and the wedding photos were due to be delivered, the photographer phoned the bride (my friend) and asked her to come in to the studio
He showed her some shots where the bride was with the bridesmaids one by one ... and in the background of a few, the groom had his hand up the bride's 15 y/o cousin's skirt

Please tell me how this ended 😳🫣

Klute!! Very happy memories. Worst nightclub in Europe and all that, IYKYK.

It was quite the death trap.

Happy days.

🙄 What do you mean you 'have trouble understanding'? Clearly the person who related the story got that bit wrong. Have you never made a mistake? She has confirmed it WAS DAVID STARKEY! Plus you are the 97th person to mention that he is not a Sir!

@B1anche

Of course I've made a mistake, but I was operating under the assumption that the poster had got the part about it being a "Sir" correct.

If she was mistaken about that, then it makes sense.

@Idontjetwashthefucker

I have trouble understanding how it could be - the person who related the story said it was someone with the title of "Sir" and David Starkey isn't a Sir.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

I'd have stuck a fork in it to see if it was cooked.

Tame by comparison to some of the previous posts, but....
I wasn't at this wedding in the 70s, but l was told about it by another family member.
One of my dad's much older (by more than 20 years) sisters was at the wedding of one of her granddaughter's husband's sisters. The bride was very visibly pregnant.
At the evening reception my auntie had (allegedly) had more than a few sherries, and was introduced to the bride and groom by her granddaughter.
When she was talking to another family member a while later, she remarked (referring to the groom's looks and the bride's condition) "Dear me, it must have been dark the night she went with him....."

A wedding we were at, the groom’s sister for some inexplicable reason wore a long white gown (she may have also been wearing a tiara but it’s possible my memory is exaggerating). That being said that seems very tame compared to a lot of these stories 😱

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

Why are you making excuses for such bad behaviour? If she had such social anxiety then she should have declined being a bridesmaid!

SabrinaThwaite · 10/02/2026 14:36

Verytall · 10/02/2026 08:11

Not exactly at a wedding, but I do remember years ago working for a basement nightclub that had a reputation for being fun, but an absolute dive - back in the days where promotors could include silly drinks offers and no one worried about safety. The typical clientele were 18-21 and it was known as one of the places you'd have a good chance getting in underage too. Dress code decidedly casual, not least because you were likely to have alcopops drinks spilled over you on the dance floor.

At some point in the evening, a bride and groom walked in, in full wedding attire. Full meringue style dress, I've no idea how she even got down the stairs. They looked a right sight amongst all the students dancing to Oasis in jeans and t shirts. It wasn't long though before the bouncers had to physically remove them because despite giving them a warning for their behaviour, they started having sex in the middle of the dance floor. I remember the groom trying to swing for a bouncer and he and another guy launched him out of the fire exit, with the bride running after him screaming. I can't imagine what wedding they had that that was their after-party.

@Verytall Please tell me that was Klute!

I’m a bit taken aback at all the weddings where people have taken drugs. I can understand getting drunk but taking drugs at a wedding is just a bit weird.

Sadly I'm not. Some people don't think a party is a party unless they've got a nose full of coke to go with their drink. It's probably as ubiquitous at weddings these days as cheese and pineapple on sticks, Party Sevens and doing the Ooops Upside Your Head dance while sitting on the floor used to be.

SmudgeButt · 10/02/2026 14:27

Not a problem at the reception and not randy like the other comments but....

My friends from high school were finally getting married. It was great on the lead up to the wedding which was delayed for 2 years because her grandmother and aunts needed to hand embroider the dress as her family was Ukrainian and very traditional. Despite this and getting married in the Eastern Orthodox Church (so very Catholic) it had been agreed that the service would be all in English as the groom wasn't Ukrainian or even Catholic. The priest would do one blessing in Ukrainian and then the standard English ceremony lasting about 15 minutes.

Come the day of the wedding the priest was called away to give last rites to some old boy and a different priest agreed to do the ceremony. Two hours worth of wailing and chanting in Ukrainian and Latin complete with waving incense about. We told our groom friend that we would vouch for him if he wanted an annulment on the basis that he didn't know what was happening throughout the ceremony as apparently the first part was baptising him as a Catholic.

Sorry, NRTWT. But have to ask whether your Username is specific to this post, or is it a joyous coincidence?

> What happened afterwards?

She called the police from the photographer's studio, the photographer advised her to go two doors down to a solicitor and start divorce proceedings

He did a lot of awful things during the divorce, including killing the family dogs and leaving them in the back of her car, but in the end he got ... five? ... years, and the house was sold and she took her half and moved away

How horrendous and traumatic for her. I hope her life is on the up now.

Jesus, we are in the process of setting up a unique wedding venue, restored building for the venue and a fair amount of accommodation on our land and this thread has me panicking.
Wonder would I get away with an alcohol free venue?????😂

After reading this thread, I think you're very brave even to consider it. My sister was planning to this at one time, but I'm so glad she didn't.

But at least, reading these posts, you can be aware and try to prepare for almost anything.😂😮😳

Yes, reading this I'm beginning to realise why wedding venues charge such astronomically high prices.

I think that for some people, party drugs are quite mainstream, and they look upon a wedding as an excuse for a party.

Mine has NOTHING on some of these, but it was an eye-opener at the time.

I'm in a small choir which can be booked for weddings. We sing what is requested and because we're only amateurs, it takes some time to meet and rehearse (as well as sourcing the actual music and sometimes buying it).

We were booked for a very flash wedding at a huge church where we were singing from the gallery above. Everyone was dressed to the nines but the uncouth congregation chatted, laughed and scrolled on their phones for the entire service, including the vows. They totally ignored our efforts - OK, but they had specifically requested a choir.

When we left to find our cars (parked in a specific place on the advice of the church, to enable us to get away before the wedding party, which was going to be there for ages) we found we were all totally blocked in for the next hour and a half (while photos were taken) by huge 4 x 4s parked just anywhere.

And they never paid us.

Some people have absolutely NO class.
