Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Back in the dark ages when I sang in the church choir as a kid. Best man puked on some flowers and the maid of honor fainted half way through the service. The bride and groom looked decidedly peeky even to my not very well trained 10 year old eyes.

I was at a wedding, where the groom fell massively in love with a colleague, who was also a guest.
I saw this, it was really like a lightning strike.
The couple marrying had been together for 8 years.
It was incredibly sad.

I was wondering if the groom had said the name of the person he was actually in love with during the vows, like the episode of Friends. But have just realised that he possibly didn't even know it 😯.

My dh's cousin got married and her dad just went home after the meal - no incident of any sort had happened. He just decided to go home. It was a big, formal wedding and everyone was shocked. His cousin was so upset- her dad didn't even tell anyone, just walked out.

Oh, he'd have had his reasons. It's just that the wider family have not been informed about it. Maybe the dad didn't even tell his daughter in case the reason was even more upsetting. Maybe he couldn't stand his new son-in-law, but kept his thoughts to himself and his daughter had no idea.

Maybe he has a secret health condition that he hasn't even told his daughter about, never mind the wider family. Or a secret alcohol problem.

Maybe he has severe anxiety and just had to run, and the daughter isn't aware of the extent of it because her dad doesn't want her to know, but he put himself through the main father of the bride duties for her sake.

Maybe his other half had just told him she wanted to split up or regretted marrying him (or whatever other awful revelations could prompt someone to just leave suddenly).

In families, you just never know what's going on in someone's life unless you're living in their home and witnessing the day to day goings on for yourself.

The best man was the groom’s flatmate. He culminated his speech with a story of the groom coming home drunk one night and being discovered by the other flatmates squatting on the kitchen floor with his pants down, trying to push ice lollies up his bum. Apparently he suffered from piles.

Thanks, best man. I really wanted that image in my mind while dessert was being served.

Did he end up going off with the lightning-strike guest?!??!

Ohhh!!! sorry - working backwards and see you already answered that. But I have another question! What did the lightning strike look like, and did the bride notice?!

Not Stephen Fry, no.

This guest equally eloquent & knowledgeable in his own specialist subject.

I thought David Starkey

Full on fight, the police were called. It was actually more like a brawl. It was a nice hotel, the bride looked lovely but ended up with blood smeared over her. It was awful! Nice wedding up to that point!

No - correct thread.

See @Wierdyperiody post yesterday at 18.41.

All kinds of wrong.

@SabrinaThwaite - you are right - very dim misreading on my part - apologies to you and @Wierdyperiody.

Some of the old ladies might not have seen one for years 😆 certainly not one in a bread roll, let alone a buttered one 🤣🥰🤣

Horrendous timing and awful for the bride - but I'm quite envious! Of the erring couple to have experienced this, and you for having witnessed it.

One guest got drunk and angry and grabbed a big garden flare and started trying to fight someone with it. Someone else dragged him to a caravan (on the grounds of this big stately home) and locked him in. Bloke who had come in the caravan to stay in slept on the floor of the disco.

travellinglighter · 10/02/2026 22:10

Not really at the wedding but I was stationed at South Barracks Gibraltar. We’d had a very boozy Saturday in Gib and at 6am the guard sounded an alert due to a bomb scare. Senior NCOs dragging drunken bodies out of their pit and down the road to an improvised muster point which was a church hall that was in the process of being set up for a wedding. Plates, cutlery, centrepieces etc. One drunken genius had come home, stripped naked and gone to bed. In the confusion he was dragged out of the building and piled into the church hall to be confronted by half a dozen black clad Mediterranean grandmas in the process of setting up. In order to cover his modesty he grabbed a table cloth and pulled and with a massive crash all the stuff came flying off the table.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/02/2026 21:56

Some of these have brought back long forgotten memories.

Naked men at weddings.....

My uncles wedding in the 80's, I was about 9 I think. After Uncle and new Aunt (still together, happily!) did their "going away", the best man got very drunk very fast. He had been on soft drinks all day to do his job properly so the booze went straight to his head according to my father. He decided to entertain everyone. My cousins and I all remember a naked man dancing around the room and our very po faced grandmother insisting we all leave! I think he was led away by friends, us kids all thought it was hilarious!

The "married couple in a nightclub" was something I saw. In Chicago Rock in the 90's, saw a very young couple in wedding attire. I dont think either of them was yet 20, and a group of older people who were family I think. They were all shit faced except the girl who was drunk but just looked utterly defeated and down. I dont think that this had been her reception of choice.

One woman was outside and I think was mother of the bride/groom. She had a bottle of something in one hand and the other hand was supporting her against a wall whilst holding a cigarette. Every time she tried to take a drag from the cig, she almost fell over. Someone offered her a seat but she told them to fuck off (charming), so they did. Not sure what happened next but about ten minutes later there was a hell of a fuss, we saw bride on her own in tears, groom yelling at doormen and several people being chucked out. I said "I hope she divorces him" and my very astute sister said "She wont, or at least not until she has popped out a couple of kids and he has fucked her best friend".

PandorasSockBox · 10/02/2026 21:55

@HollyGolightly4
It was a bit fraught, but the original couple divorced fairly quickly and the other 2 married and had a family.
Bit weird as they (the 2 who fell in love at the wedding) were both psychologists!

PandorasSockBox · 10/02/2026 21:53

At my sister's second wedding, her future sil parked her baby's pushchair in the middle of the aisle and refused to move it until someone from the location told her to.
I was then standing at the drinks reception, after the ceremony, where I had given a reading, talking to my sister-in-law and said groom's sister came up to us and asked us how we knew the bride!
Luckily my sister-in-law just said that she was married to the bride's brother and that I was the bride's older sister. Groom's sister then disappeared, as we were clearly not interesting enough!
Having said all that, her family think she is a loony, and I have heard her father refer to the father of her child as the "sperm donor".
Totally shocked at the English middle class!!!

Are they (still) together now?

Was it his or her colleague?

My best friend's wedding. They were getting married in one country, we're all from another. We all travelled up and all was going well. Until 8pm, with the evening do starting. Bride's dad decided to leave because his very new wife has decided she is tired and has had enough. They hadn't even done the father daughter dance yet. Bride inconsolable, ruined the rest of the night.

Bridesmaid at my aunt and uncle’s wedding- I drank repeatedly from the bridesmaid glass by mistake all through dinner, sang a song about a bird spinning round and round my plate at full pelt, fell off my chair and had to be put to bed.

1973, I was 3 and had been necking blue nun

You sound like great fun. Do you still do all those things at parties? 😃

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.
