Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Same! 😂

thank you for sharing @SmudgeButt

and also: hand embroidered for 2 years?? Wow! What a labour of love. Sounds gorgeous.

Imagine the pressure to not immediately drape it in a muddy puddle or spill red wine on it though! 😬

I’m sorry but I am absolutely howling with laughter. I can’t believe they baptised him!!! 😂😂😂😂😂.

This is the best one for me. Brilliant!

At least our BBQ and picnic hamper gifts were useful. Although we eventually burnt a hole in the bottom of the BBQ and the picnic hamper got left somewhere.

I was able to throw the book at DH during an argument and we made up by watching the Blackadder 4 tape (which we still have), so I still win the usefulness stakes! 😂

I was MoH for a good friend some years ago who has the mother from hell.

I didn’t really get why her mum didn’t come with us to choose the dress until the day. The bride came down the stairs in her dress and veil she looked utterly beautiful, really breathtaking. Her mum sniffed and said “well, she looks ok. Better than she deserves given that she hasn’t lost any weight for the day.” And went on to point out that the Brides (tiny) childhood facial scar would be prominent in the photos. And that was just the start. By the time we got to the reception I couldn’t stand it any longer, the relentless needling and barbed comments were just awful but just quiet enough and just far enough away from me that I couldn’t do anything. Her comments were just so cruel. So I buttonholed two of our bolshiest mates with instructions to man-mark the MoB and keep her the fuck away from the Bride. And it worked a treat. MoB tells everyone how all the Bride’s friends treated her like royalty, the Bride was completely caught up in her day and didn’t realise and the Groom spotted it all and gave us bottles of champagne to say thank you. They are now a very happy couple and live about 200 miles from her mother.

You win at best MoH for that - what a true friend!!!

Can confirm that. 100 D-marks (pre-euro days) and 37 years down the line...

Still, forewarned is forearmed, eh?

(Wedding presents included a book with the title (translated) "Don't Listen to the Man In Your Ear" and a video tape of Blackadder series 4, taped off the telly.)

Not sure why you had to mention she was “hugely fat”

Because it was relevant to the amount of people it took to get her into the car 😂

‘ex-best mate’s wedding’ - assuming your ex-best mate was the bride rather than the groom as you say you are still friends with him. You don’t seem to like the bride in this story, so how was she ever your best friend?

Edited

Ah she previously was a very close friend but then treated a lot of people in a really nasty way over a period of time so I distanced myself massively and decided she was now not the type of person I wanted to be around anymore! I did like her up until that point in life 😂 yes, stayed friends with the groom as he was an old friend too and a lovely human being and didn’t deserve to be treated like that. He owned the dance floor at my own wedding and him and my husband are great friends now too 👍🏻

The answer is within the thread...but you have to read through 850 posts to find it!

Oh OK...it was David Starkey apparently. The 'Sir' was a red herring.

Thank you. I have now finally caught up with the thread! 🙈😂

I remember a wedding I served at where the theme was “Romeo and Juliet” (the Leo dicaprio film). She got married in the rose garden of the Manor House under the archway, wearing the exact white winged outfit from the film. She had arranged a “shootout” between her brother and the grooms sister on our driveway (no one was actually hurt) that was so tacky and even the guests language was monitored by the bride, if someone said anything that wasn’t in her words “Shakespeare” they were “killed” and told to go home. (Her husband “shot” them with a fake gun and basically frogmarched them off the site - she had done this to about 4 people before she even got married!) She was a NIGHTMARE of a bride, we were trying to serve food and drinks all whilst obeying her stupid rules (don’t look anyone in the eye, say “thee and thou” etc)

Best bit of the night from that wedding was when I went to light the fire in the wedding suite and put more loo roll in the ensuite. She was sat there with her MOH, moaning in the broadest Brummie accent how much her wedding had cost and why weren’t people able to pay attention to the rules. Up to then she had been adopting a fake sort of RP accent with all of the waitstaff.

Mental!

Someone wrote a paper about the inverse relationship between the cost of the wedding and the length of the marriage.

Since mine cost $80 I’m doomed to be with DH for eternity …

The worst I've seen is all the day guests piling into the evening buffet when they only stopped eating two hours earlier, and evening guests got hardly anything. Poor planning on the part of the bride and groom and the hotel really as well as greedy and rude guests. Fairly minor stuff in the grand scheme of things, but it influenced us in not having a two tier guest arrangement and just having everyone arrive at the same time.

There's definitely a book to be written then turned into three seasons of TV. Along the lines of All Creatures Great and Small, This Is Going to Hurt etc. @ToffeePennie start writing down your stories!

I mean, I am absolutely full of these weird and wacky weddings. Like the one where a brand new waitress dumped 30 glasses of premium, top shelf alcohol (I think it was whiskey) all over the brides dress. Bride was really chill though - it was after her ceremony and during cocktail hour. She laughed it off and went and jumped in the duck pond off the herb garden in her full dress, had fun splashing around for a few mins, got some awesome pics and then came back inside by a blazing fireplace to warm back up again.

MrsBridgetMcClusky · 19/02/2026 22:07

I'd definitely watch it!

Sorry no idea, I was a 15 year old waitress at the time.
I have hundreds more stories similar. I worked there for 3 years until I turned 16 and we had a wedding every weekend.

Somebody talking about their ongoing divorce the entire time (read the room).

Similar to what somebody else said, a young lady who was somebody's plus 1, turning up to a winter wedding with a dress so short that you could see her bum. Really inappropriate and makes you wonder what was going through her head. Wasn't appropriate for any occasion.

Oh my God. She sounds utterly deranged.

I was 14/15 at the time. She was totally insane.
I was there for 3 years in total until I was old enough for factory work. Honestly, she was one of the craziest I’ve ever known, although not the worst!

Late but would put a fiver on this being J Gullis.

Not him. The person whose wedding I attended was an MP in Scotland.

CherryRipe1 · 18/02/2026 16:37

Just remembered another one. Partner's friends got married, posh do in Richmond with her very wealthy family all there. The father of the bride looked very debonnaire & distinguished in an Anthony Andrews kind of way. At the wedding breakfast the bride's family started lobbing the crusty bread rolls at us for lulz so we flung them back. I've quite a good aim & caught them a good 'un. They got more rolls & a flurry of rolls flew out way so we retaliated. They thought this bun fight with the oiks was hilarious, I'd imagine they were public school boys once & thought what jolly japes.
