32 is a young woman.

Cushionseams · 06/02/2026 23:34

I think 32 is young now. But I thought it was ancient when I was 18

15February1960 · 06/02/2026 23:32

My daughter is 32 so is her wife.. they are young women.. what's odd about it?

JustGiveMeReason · 06/02/2026 23:31

i have never heard anyone refer to a theory year old man as a young lad, a young man etc. Just a bloke or a man.

I have, and also I would.

Ballycastle · 06/02/2026 23:20

I'm 33 and one of my kids keeps calling me a dinosaur so by a 10 year olds aspect it's old but in general I don't think it is

@Bellyblueboy What if she looks younger? I'd probably call a teen a young lad rather than a young man-I'd expect older than a teenager I think.

Also some of those ages fit into two categories.

I accept it is totally subjective. If a 35 year old woman looked like a teenager (rare but can happen) then yes she might be referred to as a young woman. If i was mugged by a woman in her thirties I think it would confuse the police if I described her as a young woman!

If I was told at work that a young woman was joining my team, I would expect a school leaver not a thirty odd year old woman. A thirty year old is just a woman - not young, not old, not Middle Aged.

Anyone under 40 is young

Anyone under 50 IMO.

Gahr · 06/02/2026 23:06

YABVU. I am ten years older than that and I think of myself as young (and am read as young by most people I meet)

To be fair, the OP just said a 32yr old. If that 32yr old in question was Harry Styles, then yes, it would be odd to refer to them as a young woman.

It depends in what context to die yes. To have a job, child, be married own a house no.

No, just to be a human. 32 is hardly old now is it? Op gave no context whatsoever, just implied that 'calling' a woman of 32 young was odd, I don't think it's odd as 32 in human terms is still young, or at least it certainly isn't old.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 06/02/2026 22:40

Well she's not middle aged, and she's not old.
At least she isn't being referred to as ' girl '

JustGiveMeReason · 06/02/2026 22:38

Are you not going to come back with any context @Hmm66 ?

5foot5 · 06/02/2026 22:35

ChikinLikin · 06/02/2026 22:26

She is a young woman, from where I'm standing.

Ditto.

My DD is 30 and I definitely think of her as young and I can't see that changing in 2 years time.

Hell's Bells I don't feel old enough to have a middle -aged daughter

Dunnocantthinkofone · 06/02/2026 22:30

What an odd thread

if you are 25 - yes, totally weird
if you are 65 - purely factual observation, not odd at all

people like to say women are young. Put them down. Infatialise them.

if someone said a young man was calling at the door would you expect a 32 year old man or a teenager? I would expect a teenager.

A woman ranges in age from 18 to very elderly.

To me a young woman or young man is under 25.

25 to 60 is a woman or man.
60 - 75 is an older woman or man.
75 plus is an elderly woman or man.

AzureRose · 06/02/2026 22:17

Hmm66 · 06/02/2026 19:25

Personally I do

It's relative though isn't it
It's young to a fifty year old. Fifty is young to an eighty year old

Imo, a woman in her early twenties maybe ip to 25, is a young woman. But beyond that not so much

Leo DiCaprio, is that you?

🤣

EmeraldShamrock000 · 06/02/2026 22:00

Young woman is normal, she wouldn’t be middle aged or an older woman.

Bourneyesterday · 06/02/2026 21:57

A 32 year old is a young woman. I think it odd to be going out of your way to point out that 32 year olds are old.

Tryagain26 · 06/02/2026 21:56

My daughter is older tha 32 so go me a 32 year old woman is a young woman. What would you call them?

nowizewords · 06/02/2026 21:54

In my job we’re all ‘girls’ or ‘the girls’ and we’re ages 20-60s!
