So had a review with UC today phone call she stated she would up date the journal with what I need to provide.
A full length photo of myself standing outside my front door with the key in the lock!?
Then a letter from the children's school & nursery saying they attend there
A letter from the children's gp
Passport photos
Child benefit award letter
Birth certificates (they have had birth certificates before )

This isn't a new claim either I dont understand why gp letters are needed they want one for me and my partner too.

Also on the phone call asked who I use for my gas and electricity
Ive never been asked these things before seems strange to ask?
Anyone else had a review lately what did they ask for.

Partner works full time if that matters.

I've claimed UC for going on 2 years now and have never had one of these reviews.

You will eventually. They are random, so people can be claiming for years without having one and others can have had 2-3 within the first couple of years.

Proof of address is established when the claim is first started. So no need for proof of housing at all if the person isn't claiming for rent.

Yes but they may have moved, so even if their rent is not being paid, it shows proof of that. Of course people update things, but not always.
Then they might want a more fuller picture of everything hence asking for all this paperwork.
I’m not saying I agree with it, but that is how they do things.

Kirbert2 · 06/02/2026 16:48

They're random. After 6 months on UC everyone can be reviewed, and then they happen every 6 months.

Lazy non tax payer shit wasn't a direct quote, but your assumption that UC claimants don't work/ pay tax implies it. The unpaid training days are on top of a full time job. I'm not talking about a "day off" from unemployment ffs.

The point about paperwork expiring might be relevant, if they weren't asking for a birth certificate. But, for the 3rd (?) time now, I accept that they have to see it. And so will dutifully take it in to be seen. Luckily I dont have to be at work at that time !

So you’re putting words into my mouth now! To be honest it sounds as if you’re the one who has an issue with claiming. I don’t see anyone on here judging you, if you hold those assumptions about yourself then that’s your issue.

😂 It is a fact that lots of UC claimants don't work and don’t pay tax, to suggest otherwise is absurd.
You really do like accusing people of saying things they haven’t actually said, it seems as if you have a huge chip on your shoulder!
How can you have a day off from unemployment? Where was that said? To have a day off this has to be a holiday or mean that you work part time. You cannot seriously suggest that you are working full time, claiming UC and still being expected to ‘work for free’ on your days off!
I’m getting a bit bored of your bullshit and ridiculous responses now. If you don’t want to provide evidence needed to prevent fraud then don’t claim, simple!

LilyBunch25 · 05/02/2026 22:56

This may be due to application of the surplus earnings rule- final and/or redundancy pay can rule you out of claiming for a certain number of months.

I don't think it was enough of a pay out. Looks like they want to see two months clear of zero wage. Which is fun when you need to pay the rent.

Sartre · 06/02/2026 16:29

This is crazy. For starters, I’m unsure how this proves anything at all- how would they know what your door looks like? Not everyone even has a number on their door but beside the by, it could be anyone’s door!

Secondly, AI exists, people can easily alter images and make them appear real. Sheer insanity.

KarenWheeler · 06/02/2026 16:29

Redruby2020 · 06/02/2026 13:57

Doesn’t that also help back up where you live though, re; the tenancy agreement. Although I agree if not paying rent no need in that respect.

Proof of address is established when the claim is first started. So no need for proof of housing at all if the person isn't claiming for rent.

What triggers a review though or are they just random?

The benefits bill would be cheaper by £30 bn a year and rising if we didn't have to pay private landlords mortgages (or in your case pure profit).
What kind of job do you think someone like your tenant would get that didn't need a UC top up? For all your moralising, it wouldn't save a penny.

You’re absolutely correct. Thats a huge saving for the taxpayer if we stopped housing benefit.
People should pay their own rent and the market will settle to affordable levels as landlords will only be able to charge what people can afford to pay from their own wages.

KarenWheeler · 06/02/2026 16:26

Crochetandtea · 05/02/2026 23:58

If you don’t work and all your income is from benefits then you don’t pay tax. You use the money from taxpayers to pay the vat etc.
We have a tenant who has never worked a day in her life. First child at 16. She has never paid a penny of tax in her life because has never earn a penny in her life! It’s not a difficult concept.

You do realise UC is also claimed by millions of people who DO work?

Onbdy · 06/02/2026 16:25

ForWittyTealOP · 06/02/2026 14:54

UC replaced several legacy benefits so you're wrong in suggesting it's a replacement for job seekers allowance. It's not purely income replacement for the unemployed or low-paid; it fulfils a number of functions including supporting disabled people and families with children.

There are a lot of assertions about people working just enough to keep UC off their backs but in the absence of concrete figures, that's made up rubbish. Apart from anything, as has already been pointed out, UC doesn't work in the same way as tax credits. It's a lot more conditional.

I love that people are replying to my comments on this thread about things I haven’t even said! 😂
I am perfectly aware of what UC is thank you and what it replaced. I haven’t even mentioned job seekers allowance! I also know that it’s based on capability for work and that people with disabilities and certain caring commitments don’t have the same expectations as those who are able to work.

KarenWheeler · 06/02/2026 16:25

HoskinsChoice · 05/02/2026 23:36

So everyone who pays tax should get UC then?

Do you think people that are claiming UC are paying enough tax to cover their share of public services?

They're still paying tax, and most people on UC work!

What ‘lazy non tax payer shit’ are you referring to? If that is directed at me then please show me where I said that! 🤔🙄
ID can’t be held on file as you stated because lots of forms of ID have expiry dates, eg. passports, driving licences etc plus utility bills can only be used if they are within the last 6 months.
Of course you should be expected to attend an unpaid training day on your ‘day off’ UC should not be a lifestyle choice where you can choose to work part time and expect it to be topped up. It’s there to support people while they look for a job that does pay enough for them to stop claiming. Part of that is experience and training. This is the case for anyone deemed to be capable of looking for full time work.
If you don’t like that then stop claiming get a better paid or second job.
I’m not directing this at you because as you rightly said, I have no idea of your circumstances. However, there are people in this country who are playing the system and choosing UC as an alternative to working. That does need to be stopped.

I’m sure I’ve read posts on here where a OP saw someone on her ring doorbell having their pictures taken outside her front door then walking away? Looks like it might have been someone pretending to live there for UC 😱

Well I kind of assumed that when someone verified his ID 6 years ago, and again when he turned 18, that there was a "tick" or something on the system to say they had verified his existence. As him living with me makes no difference to how much money I get, I wouldn't lie about him being here. Not that they've asked for his address anyway!

Obviously I'm wrong and that's fine. Just feels like a waste of time to when I feel like they could hold a record of this. Like a PP said, why isn't it all linked like in other countries? I will take the paperwork in, like you say, it's a condition of claiming. But I'm allowed to grumble about it. Like im allowed to grumble about being expected to do training (unpaid) on a day off. Or go into a meeting.

And fuck off with the lazy, non tax payer shit. You know nothing about me, why I claim and what I do or don't earn.

Why are fit and healthy people on benefits - chatting to a builder a while back I said see you to tomorrow he said no I’ve done my 16hrs this week! Well to me who was working 60 hrs a week at the time it made my piss boil - as they say!

Childcare responsibilities?

Disabled partner who needs care?

Invisible health problem?

The 16 hour thing is from tax credit days. Its not a thing on UC.

@LilyBunch25 @Coffeeandbooks88

In an ideal world there would be enough social housing. Rented on a time limited basis, not for life. But we don't live in that world. Who should house @Crochetandtea 's tenant given the housing shortage?

I'll wait.

The issue is with a landlord criticising benefit claimants on the one hand and gladly accepting it as pure profit via rent in the other. Not the housing crisis.

Crochetandtea · 06/02/2026 13:56

I’m not slagging her off. She’s a pleasant enough lady if somewhat lazy. I’m stating that the benefits bill would be smaller if those who could work even part time did in fact work part time and not rely on those who work fulltime and then some to cover their choices.

But you can’t even just do part time, if the earnings are not enough to suit UC rules.

Redruby2020 · 06/02/2026 13:57

If you don't receive the housing element, then they shouldn't have asked for your tenancy agreement!

Without trying to sound er, prejudiced, did the woman who called you have a British accent? We have a lot of people who aren't British working in UC reviews and more and more there seems to be misunderstandings on what's required and what's not. I think things are getting lost in translation.

Doesn’t that also help back up where you live though, re; the tenancy agreement. Although I agree if not paying rent no need in that respect.

Crochetandtea · 06/02/2026 13:56

Thechaseison71 · 06/02/2026 13:53

Never really thought about it tbh. But a landlord can't really slag off their tenant for being in benefits then actually make money from it themselves That's hypocritical
