So had a review with UC today phone call she stated she would up date the journal with what I need to provide.
A full length photo of myself standing outside my front door with the key in the lock!?
Then a letter from the children's school & nursery saying they attend there
A letter from the children's gp
Passport photos
Child benefit award letter
Birth certificates (they have had birth certificates before )

This isn't a new claim either I dont understand why gp letters are needed they want one for me and my partner too.

Also on the phone call asked who I use for my gas and electricity
Ive never been asked these things before seems strange to ask?
Anyone else had a review lately what did they ask for.

Partner works full time if that matters.

With the amount of tax some of us pay to cover UC and PIP I’m encouraged at this post OP. Anything to prevent fraud. The money you receive is not from “the state” - it’s money out of the pockets of others mums on this forum an beyond. Please remember that.

It’s also money out of OP’s DH's pocket as he works full time. It could also be from the tax and NI contributions OP has made if she has worked, or is working. Please remember that. If there are wages coming into the household that aren’t enough to make ends meet and necessitate top ups at the tax payers expense, that’s more of a concern in my view.

Beggars can’t be choosers OP.

As others say, it’d be easy to get around with AI but I guess they’re at least trying to reduce benefit fraud.

Rude.

Beggers can't be choosers? Have you any idea how offensive that is? So people claiming benefits are begging? The op has said her partner works, what do you call employers who don't pay a living wage?

You are giving that poster exactly the reaction he wanted when he used that language.

I had a review recently wouldn’t accept my ID they eventually did a month later I got a phone call for a hour questioning a lot of transactions on my statements that were totally normal

Those telephone reviews are wild. And before anyone tells me not to claim if I fly like them, that's not what I'm saying. But honestly.

I had one a couple of years ago. First thing they did was ask me to confirm that my landlord was Mr J Bloggs and that my rent was £x per calendar month.
Next question was "so on Aug 1st you sent a payment of £x to Mr J Bloggs. Can you tell me what that was for please?"

That’s got to be annoying for schools and doctors. Also how long would it even take to get a child benefit letter. You only get one when you apply. Would be over 9 years out of date now and wrong address.

You get an entitlement letter via your government gateway app

I have, I've seen quite a few. And one thing they seem to have in common is that they're aimed at people who don't have traditionally UK surnames. But of course the DWP would never profile like that, right?

Yes of course that’s what happening! 🙄

I'm on UC and have never been asked anything like this (also work, with DP who works). Is this written as a message in your journal?!

Singlemomofthree · 06/02/2026 18:02

I had to do this two yrs ago photos at the front door, open with me inside showing the street outside not actually that easy trying to a selfie that fitted the brief. They wanted bank statements and kids birth certificates as well. Provided it all and had no further requests

A photo outside the door with the key in the lock seems very strange, it would be easy to fake with AI anyway! What does that even prove, is it supposed to show you really do live there? Surely there's more sophisticated ways to prove such things, like rental agreements or mortgage statements.

They can be forged more easily.

The beggars being those who swan off with all the profits while the state props up their wages bill. Who the hell do you think you are, calling this person a beggar? Wages should be enough for a functional life.

And they wonder why people go on PIP.

I have heard of these reviews before, its for those who started claiming uc during lockdown as apparently they didnt do the checks correctly and caused loads of fraudulent claims. Havent heard of any taking place in the past few years though! Strange.

But if a two bed for example in some parts of the country is 2k a month, which they are, or if lucky 1600-1800. And the LHA is now 1400 the tenant would still have to pay £600 a month out of their own money, if it’s 2k a month. That’s if they get all of the rent paid. So I don’t see how landlords will charge less completely. Especially not the ones who don’t accept benefits at all.

That was just the op's attempt to rile. She doesn't really think the government should stop paying housing related benefits. She'd lose all her benefits income!

ForWittyTealOP · 06/02/2026 17:18

Onbdy · 06/02/2026 16:25

I love that people are replying to my comments on this thread about things I haven’t even said! 😂
I am perfectly aware of what UC is thank you and what it replaced. I haven’t even mentioned job seekers allowance! I also know that it’s based on capability for work and that people with disabilities and certain caring commitments don’t have the same expectations as those who are able to work.

Maybe review your writing style then, because you're not very clear about what you mean.

ForWittyTealOP · 06/02/2026 17:17

Crochetandtea · 06/02/2026 16:27

You’re absolutely correct. Thats a huge saving for the taxpayer if we stopped housing benefit.
People should pay their own rent and the market will settle to affordable levels as landlords will only be able to charge what people can afford to pay from their own wages.

Boring. But I suppose it would put a lot of parasites out of business.

So you’re putting words into my mouth now! To be honest it sounds as if you’re the one who has an issue with claiming. I don’t see anyone on here judging you, if you hold those assumptions about yourself then that’s your issue.

😂 It is a fact that lots of UC claimants don't work and don’t pay tax, to suggest otherwise is absurd.
You really do like accusing people of saying things they haven’t actually said, it seems as if you have a huge chip on your shoulder!
How can you have a day off from unemployment? Where was that said? To have a day off this has to be a holiday or mean that you work part time. You cannot seriously suggest that you are working full time, claiming UC and still being expected to ‘work for free’ on your days off!
I’m getting a bit bored of your bullshit and ridiculous responses now. If you don’t want to provide evidence needed to prevent fraud then don’t claim, simple!

Have definitely been expected to attend/do online training unpaid whilst working full time and claiming UC. Believe me or don't, it's still true.

And there's always been an air of UC claimants being looked down upon on here. Maybe not by you, but overall.

But I apologise if I seem spiky, it's been a really shit week tbh and UC asking for things they've seen was just the last straw and I grumbled about it on a relevant MN thread. That's all. I fully accept they need to see it. Its just the straw that broke the camels back so to speak.

KarenWheeler · 06/02/2026 16:57

Redruby2020 · 06/02/2026 16:49

Yes but they may have moved, so even if their rent is not being paid, it shows proof of that. Of course people update things, but not always.
Then they might want a more fuller picture of everything hence asking for all this paperwork.
I’m not saying I agree with it, but that is how they do things.

But that's usually only when someone is being investigated for fraud. When a person moves, they have to provide proof of their new address. So if the OP has recently moved, then fair enough, but if not, then whoever is conducting the review is doing it wrong.
