To think I should go to minor injuries?

DH says probably nothing! I am a bit concerned myself.
These are my symptoms:
Random prodding pain in upper back
On Sunday evening, I was driving and I suddenly felt a pulsating, deep pain in the side of my lower back. This came in waves varying from uncomfortable to a sudden shock of pain which would make me groan out loud, for around 5 hours until I went to sleep. Since then, it has happened twice but only for around 15minutes at a time.
I have also been having stomach pain, almost like a burning feeling on and off.
I have felt nauseous on and off yesterday and especially today

Should I go, or will they tell me to bugger off and stop wasting their time?!

Nurse here! I think if the pain is still there tomorrow you should maybe go to A+E, it’s worrying it came on suddenly on Sunday and hasn’t gone away. Your initial post made me think of Kidney stones or Gallstones. Did they dip your urine? (Sorry may have missed that!) in saying that I reckon you would have been sicker by now had it been gallstones, a kidney stone on the other hand may have passed. Any other symptoms?

follow up - sorry I have just seen they ruled out a kidney stone. How are you feeling now OP? I don’t think a+e would think you were wasting their time - you need bloods done and an ultrasound to rule out anything serious.

Hi im wanting to ask a question for myself here. I had horrific pains on and off liek this for THREE years and I didnt go to the GP even, I kind of worked out it came on when I ate fatty foods so just stopped doing that. The pain was excruciating and I was rolling around on the floor at night and vomitting terrible. eventually I did go to the doctor and had a scan and it was gallstones as I suspected. I ahd my gallbladder out. But Iin hindsight what on earth was I thinking just ignoring it like that? who on earth does that? many years after I ended on having a terribel breakdwon from stress becasue I wasn't able to ask for help and they said it was due ot childhood abuse and neglect. I have no clue hwy I would neglect mysefl that way

By telling yourself it might be due to your anxiety. Like you're trying to talk yourself out of how serious it might be,cor downplaying or, or attributing it to something that doesn't need a&e.

be careful, if you disturb OP you will be reported and deleted

Gaslighting myself in which way?

Tink3rbell30 · 04/02/2026 15:49

What did the GP say today?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/02/2026 10:29

@Forenspy why are you ignoring the masses of people telling you it sounds exactly like gallstones and saying you can't possibly think what it could be?

Gallstone pain is classically in the shoulderblade, and does not respond to any pain medication.

Rewis · 04/02/2026 10:27

Just wanted to make it clear that I’m not suggesting I go to A&E!

I've noticed that on MN the only appropriate time to use A&E is when you've been stabbed or a broken bone is visible to the naked eye. Please don't worry about "wasting" A&E resources. If you're in pain, go.

youalright · 04/02/2026 09:48

Op have you contacted the gp this morning or are you waiting until they close again to suddenly want help?

Just because you have all of her symptoms doesn't mean she has all of yours. That's what I mean. My grandmother has colon cancer and has all of the OP's symptoms too. So does my friend with IBS and my partner with torn erector spinae muscle. They also have distinct symptoms which OP doesn't describe. And, I imagine, so do you.

And to your earlier comment about "ruling out". Both Fibro and FND are diagnoses of exclusion. All other differentials should be ruled out before they are even considered.

Exactly this id be fuming if a dr diagnosed me with fibromyalgia after 2 days and no tests.

This has to be one of the most shit threads I’ve ever had the misfortune to read on here.

No one can diagnose via a couple of posts on Mumsnet. We are all old enough (at least I know OP is) to have children. You have a responsibility to look after yourself - you are aware of A&E, you are aware of 111 and your GP but you came here? Grow up and advocate for yourself properly.

NiceCupOfChai · 04/02/2026 07:44

Of course I’m not suggesting that. I have encouraged OP multiple times
on this thread to seek appropriate assessment for her symptoms. Her pattern of symptoms are much more in keeping with other conditions. Both of the conditions you suggest are chronic conditions, OPs presentation is acute. Of course fibro and FND start somewhere but to suggest it after 2 days is wild levels of extrapolation.

I didn't say it was either of those conditions. I said if she has bloods which show nothing then they could be something to explore.

I was literally trying to be helpful. There's nothing wrong with investigating things at an early point (and indeed ruling them out)

PretendHedgehog · 04/02/2026 07:38

This has to be a joke comment. At what point of suffering symptoms are you allowed to enquire about them being a certain condition?

I had my symptoms for years before the cause was found. Are you suggesting OP should suffer for years in order to then be allowed to believe it might be this?

Is she not allowed to look into all avenues for her condition right now?

Also I clearly said she needed a blood test AND THEN could look at these kind of conditions. If everything is ruled out in bloods, why aren't people allowed to try and help with conditions her symptoms ARE conducive with?

She’s had the symptoms for 2 days - does that meet criteria for for diagnosing fibromyalgia or FND?

Iocanepowder · 04/02/2026 07:17

I had gallstones which started as a severe pain in my back that i couldn’t shift with painkillers or any position or hot water bottle.

Have you noticed any pattern that triggers the pain? For example, after you eat?

PretendHedgehog · 04/02/2026 07:12

NiceCupOfChai · 04/02/2026 06:41

Nothing at all about the OPs symptoms suggest fibromyalgia or FND. Stop adding to her anxiety.

I'm not adding to her anxiety I'm trying to HELP HER.

I have FND. And yes it causes all the symptoms OP has - I know this because I also have them. And my mam who has v similar symptoms has fibromyalgia.

I had never heard of FND in my life and if someone had advised me back then to look into FND, I'd maybe not have been as anxious about not knowing wtf was wrong with me (ironically since you're saying the opposite).

Call 1111

PretendHedgehog · 04/02/2026 07:08

Catza · 04/02/2026 06:09

Fibromyalgia is categorised by widespread pain and FND has a host of neurological symptoms none of which we can see here. A bit of a leap.

theansweris42 · 04/02/2026 06:46

OP try to get an urgent GP appointment today based on the pains and the palpitations and nausea.

The UC centre has ruled out acute problems / imminent life threatening conditions that's all.

If you have persistent / recurrent pain you need to see a GP.

I have lifelong anxiety, its normal for me (!) Recently having palpitations and saw GP. My BP was extremely high and I was prescribed some meds.

As a pp said please don't just put the symptoms down to anxiety as its a red herring.

Even if anxiety is part of the cause of symptoms (such as palpitations) you still have physical symptoms which need investigation.

NiceCupOfChai · 04/02/2026 06:41

PretendHedgehog · 04/02/2026 05:23

So first off you need to get an appt with your GP for bloods, as it appears they only did a urine test when you went to hospital is that right?

If your bloods come back clear there are two things that spring to mind - fibromyalgia and FND (Functional Neurological Disorder).

Both can cause pain (anywhere in the body), nausea/vomiting, and they're also both linked with anxiety.

Push for an urgent appt at GP and if the bloods come back clear, this might be something to discuss further with them

I think you should ring 111 so someone with appropriate training can advise you where is best to go.

That made me laugh, had to speak to an 18 year old lad, when realised I had an infection after giving birth.
he could read from a computer, kept having to phone me back as he’d missed bits. Embarassing for both of us, but I was nice to him, through my pain.
Just wanted the darn appointment

newmama2023 · 04/02/2026 04:26

I have similar symptoms when i have ingested something i have an intolerance to. Mainly phenylephrine (its in cold and flu medicine like night nurse, lemsip etc)
