Really disturbed by response to this horrible incident

Recently I was at Kings Cross. On my way to meet a friend. When this middle aged guy saw me and said something along the lines of “oh my god how beautiful, her face”. The two younger guys who he was with had to physically restrain him ans he was trying to walk in my direction. And they honestly were struggling. They were maybe 10 metres away from me but I was genuinely afraid. I’m 27 and incredibly active but only 5 ft 3. I was surrounded by people but worried I was going to be groped. Plus I really don’t like drawing any attention whatsoever if I can help it. Naturally VERY shy.

Ive recounted this incident to three people (all women of varying ages) and they’ve all mentioned the part about me being called beautiful. Like it’s a compliment. Ie that should be the takeaway. The man was physically intimidating to me! I was genuinely scared I was going to be attacked.

I just find this response very very depressing. Would the women around you not express sympathy if you were to tell them of a similar encounter?

Because looking at someone and deciding that he was from a particular country or set of countries is inherently racist. Especially in London if he was not Caucasian he could still very well be born and bred here and from parents/grandparents/great grandparents who were born here.

Like many others it sounds to me like for whatever reason he was out with carers.

I wouldn't think that was racism. It may be presumptious, but certainly not racist.

ScarlettSarah · 01/02/2026 19:51

It's certainly not a compliment on that man's part, but having two carers with him meant you really weren't likely to be at risk. Plus in Kings Cross Station, it's very public, there are usually police very nearby etc. I'm sorry you were frightened though, erratic behaviour like that can be very disconcerting.

We do ,thats why we have special hospitals and secure units
But we dont just lock them uo for being mentally ill.

Absolutley, we also can’t keep them locked up indefinitely so need to check whether they’re able to be safe in the community.

Hmm I can see how you’ve interpreted it as such. But I don’t think there is enough info to make the determination.

I interpreted it differently. And assumed the men were his family members. Who possibly kniw this man is a pest.

OP with kindness this man was not actually attacking you when the two men stopped him. If they were NOT his carers they assaulted him to possibly prevent him attacking you, on the assumption that he would. Without strong evidence that he would have done, they actually committed a violent aggressive act that will likely land them in prison with serious criminal records. Not to mention, they it isn't easy to restrain a grown man safely so they risked injuring themselves or injuring him and potentially getting them in way more trouble.

While obviously only the man himself or the men with him can actually say who they are or what he is like, the fact that the 2 men were happy enough to stop him even though he wasn't actually hurting you, without being put off by the risk of serious injury or legal repercussions, is PLENTY of evidence to say it is extremely likely they were his carers and were aware this might happen and had training to deal with it and legal backing to be fairly confident they wouldn't end up in prison for assault or GBH if they did.

If a man needs two carers to restrain him when he's out in public so he doesn't attack women, he shouldn't be out in public. I don't care what the reasons are. Women are not support humans and background cast for problematic men.

I personally don't buy that this was the case by the way. I live next to a community of adults with learning difficulties and trust me, none of them have 2 on 1 carers.

You don't know everything. It's very common here and I live in a quiet village in the North East.

100% we should lock up people whose mental illness leads them to being violent. Too many people have been murdered by mentally ill men.

Catladywithacat · 31/01/2026 19:09

A lot of women are jealous of others and can be your friends as well. Being called beautiful when you’re scared by the person calling you it is not a compliment

Cappie73 · 31/01/2026 16:47

FFS are we supposed to lock people up with mental illness again in asylums to never see the light of day again, Jesus wept!

Plenty of disabled people need two carers. They are also allowed out in public, just like everybody else.

Oh yes you're right, because you haven't seen anyone needing 2 on 1 support, no-one does.

Oh give over! Nobody has said that and I don't know a single woman who thinks those things are acceptable.

Maybe the problem here is that you jump to conclusions and patronise women. Good call!

Or married women tbh 🤔

He was probably just a chancer..so not targetting that posters daughter specifically, just getting his cheap thrills from doing it.

Possible.. Still doesn't explain why someone would accept a random pic being dropped from a stranger... Also would have said their name so a male would have been obvious..
Makes me wonder how it all came about or was it just to be able to report.. Who knows but it doesn't make a lot of sense regardless.

Heggettypeg · 31/01/2026 18:49

OP, it might still be worth reporting it to the transport police. They probably won't be able to do anything about your incident now, but if he's a regular at that station and another woman reports an incident, it might help her to be believed if something else is already on file about him.

Sidebeforeself · 31/01/2026 18:38

@TheFormidableMrsC My step daughter had a very similar experience to yours so I 100% agree with you.

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/01/2026 18:28

Omg are you OK? What a vile response.

Yes I’m fine thanks, my response was very much in line with your over the top allegation of victim blaming! It was more about educating of mobile privacy and safety.

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/01/2026 18:33

@XoxkaI’m really sorry this happened to you and even more sorry for the women on this thread who have minimised and victim blamed and excused the behaviour of men. My own daughter’s experience that I mentioned here was one of many. Yet it was her fault for leaving her air drop on, not the fault of the fucking pervert wanking on a train. If anything like this happens to you in future, please report it. Don’t let anybody tell you it doesn’t matter 💐

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 31/01/2026 18:33

Xoxka · 31/01/2026 15:48

I don’t know how anyone can make the determination from the little I said/observed that he had mh issues. Many men don’t know how to behave. Regardless of background.

Im not saying he didn’t. Maybe he did. But many men without mh issues behave inappropriately to women.

Intellectual disability was my first thought as well. We have a social centre for adults with intellectual disabilities on our road and sometimes they are very clueless about things like this. The younger men ready to stop him sounded very familiar.

Also even when on you have to accept the pics it isn't just automatic, I'm not sure why anyone would accept pics through air drop on a train full of people you don't know...
Leaving it on is fine IMO because you need to accept it.. And how did he know it was her phone that had air drop open?? Something there doesn't make sense.

I’m glad someone picked up on my comment about AirDrop, rather than of accusing me of victim shaming 🙄.

Yes, Broadmoor, Rampton, Ashworth.

I doubt they would be travelling by train though
When i was student mental health nurse I had a placement in the regional secure unit which was medium secure and a step down from the high secure hospitals
Any kind of leave had to Home office approved.

I hate to say it but he was most likely from a country where men and women probably do not mix freely.

This is racist.

No it’s not!

It's awful that people think you should be flattered by this attention. Mind boggled.
