Am not usually one to post these kinds of threads but this is so sad. I've loved her since childhood and am currently in the middle of a Schitt's Creek binge to take my mind off the usual winter bugs. She was such a fantastic actress and so, so funny.

Gone far too soon. She was such a gift to the world. One of the rare occasions I feel genuinely sad that a public figure has died, but she and her characters have been a part of every stage of my life.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 30/01/2026 19:40

I’m genuinely surprised by how upset I am! RIP. 🙁

Jitterybugs2 · 30/01/2026 19:40

That’s sad to hear. I love Schitt’s Creek. I wasn’t sure when I started it but stuck with it. By the end of episode 2 I was hooked. I thought Catherine’s performance as Moira Rose was fabulous and just when you thought she couldn’t be any funnier she did week by week.

I’ve watched it all twice and was just thinking the other day I must give it another go.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 30/01/2026 19:39

Awwww, that's sad. She's older than I thought, (I thought she was about 63,) but not old enough to die. 😢

Loved her in Home Alone, and Beetlejuice. And she did lots of voices for animated films too.

R.I.P.

SC was one of those shows where you genuinely wanted them to be real people. Moira especially. And yes thats cos the writing was brilliant but also because the way she portrayed her.

Edited

I felt like I’d lost friends when I finished binging all the seasons the first time. I’ve watched them another 4 times since and think I’m gonna have to watch them again now.
My 18 year old DS is equally gutted that ‘Kevin’s mum” has died.

Gutted.

She turned in one of the best comedy performances of all time as Moira Rose.

I’m genuinely sad.

But how fantastic that, in her sixties, she had such a triumphant, career-defining roll. What an actress.

Will be watching SC for the third time in her honour.

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 30/01/2026 19:37

She was going to play me in the inevitable biopic of my life!!! This cannot be true 😭😭

Kevin’s mum in Home alone, Mrs.McCallister.

Of all the things she has done, that's the role.

Home Alone is one of those rare films that will be shown over and over again, so she (and her Kevin!! reaction) will be known for as long as films are watched.

Moira Rose. The greatest comedy character ever.

We are lucky she created such a legacy.
I am so sad to read this.

Mine too. It's a comfort film for me.

Very sad at this news.

'How long ago did he poke me?'

'You don't forget the best'.

(When the credit card is declined) No.... that's the good one'.

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 30/01/2026 19:31

Don’t forget she was absolutely sublime as the voice of Sally in Nightmare Before Christmas ❤️

Coffeeishot · 30/01/2026 19:31

What would Moira have said to @Netcurtainnelly ?

” One must take every opportunity to educate oneself , including …(long pause) operating ones Google, lest one shame one’s self, their family and all who have had the misfortune to meet one”.

I could hear her saying that 🥰

OpheliaHamlet · 30/01/2026 19:29

An amazing actress. She was iconic in both Beetlejuice and Schitt’s Creek.
So classy and gorgeous, as well!

goingtotown · 30/01/2026 19:29

Best in Show is one of my top comedies. Her singing of the terrier song - classic.

Mine too. It's a comfort film for me.

Very sad at this news.

Really sad tonight too, 71 feels like no age nowadays! She has brightened my days so many times and for that I am thankful!

WinterCarlisle · 30/01/2026 19:24

@Netcurtainnelly just piss off and educate yourself.

RIP, Catherine. You were an amazing actress, thanks for making me laugh so much in Schitts Creek and for being so fabulous in Beetlejuice (among other things).

Rude- just a simple Google would have sufficed.
