To think there needs to be a points strategy for voting.

As we are all aware, there are some seriously concerning political views held by some of the nation.

In a bid to make sure that the vote is done fairly, and more substantiated by people with the intelligence to vote properly - I think it should be along the lines of this.

2 votings points to those who have completed university or a degree.
1 voting point to those who have completed GCSE of 3 C’s and above.
0.5 voting point to those with anything less than that.
0.25 voting point to members of society who have been convicted previously.

Age discrimination isn’t really a thing as they could still use their 1 point vote whilst awaiting completion of their diploma.

Voting properly means an understanding of what they’re actually voting for. Not just to jump on the bandwagon or TikTok propaganda.

The fact you don't understand that this would also discriminate against older people who were 18 at a point when there was significantly less ability to access university should give you 0 points on your own scale

@AlcoholicAntibiotic

My view is that there should be constituencies for each of Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, LSE, King's College, Durham, Manchester, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Dundee universities.

That would ensure that graduates of these elite institutions- who by definition have better critical thinking and higher intelligence than average, have a greater say in the future of the nation.

That would benefit all.

10000% agree with this

Next you'll be assigning voting points to our cranial sizes.

therefore change must be made in future voting

You honestly believe that the vote should be removed from people who vote differently to you because you must be correct? And yet you’re decrying right wing politics? You’re literally suggesting a fascist dictatorship….

Unpaidviewer · 29/01/2026 16:22

Ah yes because we all know it the university educated who keep the country running, don't we? I thought we collectively found out how important essential workers were during covid? Imagine being so narrow minded that you would now believe those people are too stupid to vote? Wow OP.

I can see why some people want to vote for reform. I come from a northern council estate and I can sympathise with some of the frustrations. Now I'm university educated and living in a little village in the south. It's a little middle class bubble. A completely different world. Issues like immigration don't effect me in the same way. I don't think I am anymore entitled to vote than someone who has completely different life experiences than me.

Dgll · 29/01/2026 16:02

When it comes down to it, I think most people vote for the party they think will be the most economically beneficial for them.

There is a section of the middle classes whose parents got them on the housing ladder near the good schools, who earn enough to dip into private health care if absolutely necessary, don't have to rely on benefits and don't have to pay higher rate income tax. They have luxury of voting for other reasons but everyone else tends to hold their nose and vote for whoever they think will be best for keeping their benefits, their job and/or their tax bill down.

Most people have always voted with their wallets. It’s nothing new.

Well, I think the vote to leave the EU told us everything about the critical thinking ability - or lack of - of a small majority of people.

Sadly, many don't seemed to have learned and are quite happy to turn the country over to racist thugs and bullies.

I cannot believe someone who claims any level of education and intelligence - let alone morals and conscience - has even considered such an idea.

I'll bet I can guess how the OP votes.......

Who? I think labour.

and the idea is absurd

so those who are already disadvantaged in society also get their votes taken away? How about by council tax bracket? The higher your bracket the more votes you have.

also I hate reform

What if you have a degree but have a criminal conviction?

I’ve never made a thread about higher earners paying tax?

Are you the same poster who also thought we should only let higher tax earners the vote...or multiple votes or something equally as ludicrous. I can't quite remember what it was now but your responses sound exactly the same as that posters.

Bat shit crazy either way. What about those intelligent enough to get a degree but couldn't afford to go to university? Where do they stand in this stupid "barometer" or yours

They’d still have a point based on the GCSE points…

So you dont believe in a democracy 🤔
And you' think this makes you more intelligent, OK...

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 29/01/2026 16:11

I don't think think this would work in practice (someone who didn't go to uni but works in finance has more votes than someone with a degree in David Beckham). Again i dont think this would work in practice but ideally there should be some kind of test you have to pass to get a vote. Eg around what the main manifestos are, how our voting system works, whether you're voting for a person or a party etc. There definitely should have been some sort of system for the brexit vote, the amount of people I know that voted basing their decision on complete untruths (like we are the biggest contributors) was very frustrating

StarofWonderStarofLight · 29/01/2026 16:10

loislovesstewie · 29/01/2026 16:09

You mean that you don't like the way some people might vote so you effectively disenfranchise them? Seems a bit like a fascist is running this system.

Politics is something that should be constantly reviewed and evolved with time. So thinking of new ideas should always be welcomed - some may be good, some not. But it’s good for thought.

OP posts:
5128gap · 29/01/2026 16:10

What I would like to see is a programme of political education, so it was taught as a core skill alongside literacy and numeracy.
I'd like to see people understand the values that underpinned the parties along the political spectrum, and what sort of policies and laws these values tended to translate to. Basics such as high state intervention/collective good/wealth equality versus individualism/personal responsibility/social mobility, and the pros and cons of each belief system.
Then I'd like to see politicians held to far greater accountability when campaigning, so misrepresentations and unachievable promises were unlawful, and there was a requirement to use clear and accessible language to outline manifestos. Which once outlined, should be binding.
At present there is greater onus on retailers to accurately describe their product than on those hoping to govern us to describe theirs, so its not surprising people vote from a place of misunderstanding.

Melonmango70 · 29/01/2026 16:10

What? You're saying that because I haven't got a degree, that I shouldn't hold the same voting rights as my friends who do? Friends I share a political stance with, hold the same values, have intelligent, rational conversations with? Plenty of racist twats hold degrees. You do realise that? You are being ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. And massively offensive!!

Interesting. Keen to add extra points.
Perhaps means tested voting? Like a mortgage can’t be had without proof of ability.

Mortgage/home owner 2 points.

I own my home outright do I get more points? 🤣

TolkienProd · 29/01/2026 16:06

This thread is so obviously a poor attempt at a wind up and I’m amazed at how many of you have taken the bait

organisedadmin · 29/01/2026 16:05

I think age should be weighted towards the youths, they have to live with the long term impact & there is less of them!
