DH waking the kids!

PinkPonyClubb · 28/01/2026 06:42

He’s driving me crazy! I literally watch (baby monitors) as each noise wakes both kids. (1-3)

His alarm goes of at 5.30 both kids are flat out.

We leave both kids doors open when they sleep incase they ever wake and need us. I’ve asked him to shut these, he forgets every morning. He shuts the bathroom door and the noise always wakes the 1 year old first, it’s the latch it kind of pings so loud. He washes his hair which sounds like an avalanche, drops loads and that bloody cough drives me nuts! He can not brush his teeth without gagging.

On occasion, when it’s me up early first, the kids don’t wake.

Am I being precious? Is this just normal morning noise? I can’t see why he can’t assist the door closing quietly, close the kids doors and not drop everything

Sorry it has taken so long to update. I’ve had a really busy day.

DH was super quite this morning! Both kids stayed asleep until I woke them at 7am. After our chat he decided to get ready downstairs. Said he didn’t realise how noisy he was being. Which seems to resonate with a previous poster who asked was he deep sleeper who could sleep through anything, yes he is!

To answer questions about if he will ever take the kids, no he works too early. Our current arrangement is:

Morning
Him - get himself ready, put washing out lay breakfast table for us.

Me - Get myself and the kids ready, take both kids to nursery.

He finishes work at 4.30 but has a manual, dirty job that means he has to shower.

I finish at 5pm. I get the kids, arrive home and play with them.

By the time tea is served, he will have showered, got bedtime stuff ready for the kids, done our breakfast dishes and put the clothes washing away.

We all have tea together, both play with the kids and then bath them together. We alternate who reads to which child. We put both kids down at the same timish. Just depends how long each child’s story takes.

He will then was dishes and wipe round. I’ll have a showerS I’ll come down, hoover, make packed lunches and clean the dinning table.

So I do think our roles are pretty evenly split and like I said, I’ve no other gripes. We get on well and I love him. It’s just his inability to be quite! Drives me nuts, but I doubt I’m perfect!!

Thanks for all your helpful advice. So obvious to get ready downstairs, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it!

He sounds like one of the good ones, glad he took on board your complaints

Ok probably a silly idea but can you stick post its on all the doors saying things like ‘shhh! Kids asleep!’ And ‘close the door!’ And cough downstairs! Etc? Then he can’t say he ‘forgot’

LeedsMum87 · 29/01/2026 19:33

Keep the kids doors shut all the time. They should be kept shut for fire safety anyway

Currentskin · 29/01/2026 08:22

Op not been back this morning so hopefully means DH listened!

I'm okay if the OP doesn't want to knowledge my post. What I'm even more okay with is the fact that you keep posting and therefore you are keeping this thread active. Hopefully it'll mean someone who currently keeps their internal doors open of a night sees this thread and is educated about the danger of it. It's up to them if they want to act on that knowledge, but you never know, someone might and it might save a life one day.

phew

you are ok now

because yesterday you were “so bothered”

I thought you wanted the OP to acknowledge? But actually just any poster?

No I'm all good now thanks, got all the acknowledgement I needed from you 👍🏻

😂

Please I’ve made you chuckle. Hopefully not so “bothered” anymore by the op not “acknowledging” some posts.

Currentskin · 29/01/2026 06:26

Oh don’t be so hyperbolic!

Thanks for letting me, and all the other posters who commented on the same matter, know that our posts regarding fire safety aren't relevant. You're absolutely right, it's not an important point at all 👍🏻

And same for Op
so you shouldn’t be bothered if she hasn’t “acknowledged” posts that aren’t remotely relevant to her

Sausagedognamedmash · 29/01/2026 06:16

He needs to put his toothbrush downstairs. If he is only essentially wetting his hair he can do that at the downstairs sink too. If he is downstairs he will be less likely to wake the children.

But yes as PP said up thread, close doors at night. If there is a fire it makes a huge difference to their safety and protection. An open door offers no protection at all.

Currentskin · 29/01/2026 06:12

Are you planning on going back to work @PinkPonyClubb

the test will be if you have to start doing alternate mornings with your DH… so that on some mornings he’s responsible for the children and others you are. Guaranteed he will “remember”

Currentskin · 29/01/2026 06:10

SharyBobbins · 28/01/2026 21:52

Like I said, your house, your rules. You do you.

What happened this morning @PinkPonyClubb ?

PinkPonyClubb · 28/01/2026 22:09

Isittimeformynapyet · 28/01/2026 16:35

What does it mean to "sleep through his brother"?

Sorry, poorly worded. Just sleep through the general noise of his brother being a toddler.

If you say so

Because upthread you said you have really explained to him many times how this is impacting you and the children negatively…. And he just reverts time and time again.

We have! I don’t think he realises the impact. He’s quite for a few days then it starts again. He’s so bloody clumsy!

I’ve got a 1 year old. I have to get up at a stupid hour one day a week. I don’t flush the loo, or use my electric toothbrush on that day. I avoid putting the landing light on and avoid the bean to cup machine and make a cafetière of coffee instead. Everyone knows you don’t bloody wake the kids up, especially if you’ll be leaving the house and not dealing with them

That's fine, I'm not suggesting you do🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm just asking the OP to acknowledge that she has read the comments about fire safety as most other points on this thread have been responded to other than this. Both you & the OP can decide what to do with your doors of a night. Your house, your choice.

She’s never wanted her door closed
I have never forced her to do so
