SIL perfect pictures

My SIL has taken some of the most perfect, aesthetically pleasing photos of her under 6 month old. From newborn to now. They are currently on holiday, think, back of the head crawling in the sand toward horizon shot.
I feel so much less of a parent looking at her photos. They have beautiful black and white hand holding ones. Horizon shots in the sand. Matching Christmas pyjamas etc etc

I dont have nay photographs that match the class of hers. But I loves my kids so much.
Have I failed them by not taking the Instagram worthy shots?
I feel like a total failure.
For the record I have 3, 6 and under and I feel I should have done better like my sil

An under-six-months-old crawling?

By that criteria, my husband must be a crap partner.
I don't think he has ever taken a pic of me unless I am gurning or the wind has whipped my hair over my face.🙄

For THoose asking if this is a wind up. It genuinely isn't!
My SIL has such beautiful photographer worthy photos THAT SHE has created at home to commemorate her DC milestones.i didn't even think to do this myself. The photos are lovely. Ones you could put on your wall, and now I feel I've missed my boat/opportunity to do so with my DC.
her photos are beautiful mine are just ones of my DC playing normally not lighted or composed etc

Are you actually serious or are you being sarcastic?

Spoodles · 26/01/2026 18:05

What a ridiculous concept.

Some people are good photographers and others are not why would that have any bearing on how you raised your child? Hmm

pbdr · 26/01/2026 18:03

Your children are not going to grow up wishing that you had spent more of their childhood posing them for instagram worthy photo opportunities. Your love, care, respect and safety is what they will remember about their childhood.

Instagram doesn’t show people’s real lives. It is for crafting an image that they want to display. Some people use up so much time, energy and resources creating an idyllic looking life on social media that their real life and children take a back seat to the planning, prop buying, photo shoots, editing and tracking likes and comments. Your priorities and where they ought to be.

My photos are always a bit crappy. BIL has a fancy phone and spends ages taking and editing pictures of his kids. But that doesn’t make any of them happier or healthier the my kids.

dont let instagram jealousy steal your enjoyment of your own lovely kids.

MidWayThruJanuary · 26/01/2026 18:01

I’m sure your sil loves her child too.

I feel like a total failure

Quite right. Try harder.

MaybeThisTimeILlbeLucky · 26/01/2026 17:59

I've never known taking pics of children as a yard stick of good parenting ?

holjam · 26/01/2026 17:59

Good god is this real? Of course you haven’t failed your children by not having insta perfect pics.

TeenToTwenties · 26/01/2026 17:58

You may be more of a parent.
How many pictures had to be taken to take those perfect ones?

cloudtreecarpet · 26/01/2026 17:58

Please tell me this is a wind up post??
