i am a leftie

I think they’ll win

If don’t, they’ll have the majority in a hung parliament and govern as a minority party before joining with the Tories.

i’m going to tighten my belt re running my home and prepare for onslaught as the country becomes unrecognisable

How do you not think Reform will be a disaster?

They might be but let's wait until they get into power before judging, they won't be any worse than the other to showers of shite

EarthlyNightshade · 27/01/2026 18:53

onpills4godsake · 27/01/2026 17:27

I think the reason why reform will get power is the inability of people to have a sensible grown up political debate without getting offended.

the cancel culture and the blanket labelling of voters as racist or extremist won’t change their votes or engage them it just pushes them further in that parties direction

people should be able to disagree about politics and still be friends - civil.

the minute you label someone wrongly you lose credibility with them

I'm a bit tired of always being blamed for how someone else votes.

If someone wants to vote Reform, they should own it, and not do it because they are called racist by someone on Mumsnet. They should look at and support the policies because they are the most suited to them.

I don't think they will win. They have plenty of supporters but not enough spread through enough constituencies to win them all. And that's assuming an election now, who knows where Farage will be in a couple of years!

Reform voters who are paying attention are increasingly disgusting with them. Even the far right are saying Labour are looking a better option

Really? Where are you seeing that

dh280125 · 27/01/2026 18:51

There is no chance Starmer will lead Labour at the next election, so they might regain ground. It will be hard. I'm a lifelong Labour voter but no way would I vote for them as they are now.

BlueJuniper94 · 27/01/2026 18:51

glitterpaperchain · 27/01/2026 18:47

I'm a leftie too but I think even Reform voters will be put off reform at this rate. I think many people voted reform because they were sick or the tories, but now many tories are joining reform! I don't know who they'll vote for instead though

Er… yes they very much can and they are now formed with Tory rejects.

Really , Tory rejects. You mean the MPs that didn't agree with the majority Tory wets? I think the same things were said across the pond before the orange man got into power but at least they have a booming economy and feck all immigration

Possibly the new centre-right movement spear-headed by Ruth Davidson. It's very early days though. The centre must make a comeback.

BusyExpert · 27/01/2026 18:48

I am terrified that they won’t. I think they are our last hope. I am not sure they will succeed but they cannot be worse that the current shit show.

Cyclebabble · 27/01/2026 18:47

There is a long way to go before the next election and a lot can change. Reform have not announced any policies and on areas such as the NHS, where Farage would look at a potential move to insurance, Reform are vulnerable. However, Farage is also persuasive and they do now have the infrastructure to deliver a very credible campaign. There is therefore a significant risk that they could do well. That being said, I do not think that Reform have any solutions that will leave the UK better off- just more divided and poorer in all senses.

I think if they do, they're going to very swiftly discover there is a huge difference between braying about what should be done and actually managing to do it. Between spouting any old nonsense promise to gain support and delivering on them to keep it.
I think there will be a very uncomfortable, distressing period when underprivileged and disadvantaged people sold the lie that their problems would be over if we 'stop the boats', realise they are actually no better off at all, and that the protections they are most likely to need, the welfare state and NHS are the price they've paid for this pie in the sky.
After which they will be voted out. My fervent hope as a fellow leftie is that parties that are supposed to represent this end of the spectrum get their act together ready to fill the gap.

The problem, & the most scary thing, is that while they're floundering about & smashing things up, a future government will have an Augean stables job on their hands trying to put it right. Example: if they do achieve their dream of US style 'healthcare', it will be a very long time before we get it back, if ever. I am disappointed with Labour but they are, fundamentally, getting stuff done - their comms are awful & they keep u turning on things as if they hadn't really thought it through. I also squarely blame the electorate, from top to bottom, who want all the good things but want someone else to pay for it. When asked to play their part, they start to bleat & demand 'change' without thinking for a heartbeat about the country or their fellow citizens. The British really aren't as nice as we fondly believe & take far to much for granted. We'll be in for a shock when the life we've had since the 50s isn't there any more.

You mean like Milliband's crony mates or Starmer/Hermers Chaigos deal. You've been conned for 40 years FFS by both parties. Time to give someone else a chance, they are unlikely to do any worse

They really are and it's 100% certainty.

The culture wars won't feed you. Reform will solve sweet fuck all whilst making sure billions flow into the super rich's pockets.
For crying out loud wake up. It's all lies.

In the meantime, I would encourage everyone to educate themselves on what the agenda is regarding women's roles. We are always a couple of years behind the US. This administration has a lot of influence on populist parties like Reform. This is an excellent explainer of the policies proposed by the Heritage Foundation (the single most influential conservative think tank which has direct access to the current US administration):
Don't think it won't affect us if we let their mouthpieces into power over here. same applies to the rest of Europe by the way.

Khayker · 27/01/2026 18:33

Personally, I think you're bonkers worrying about Reform being elected. I'm actually worried for everyone that Starmer will stay and Labour will limp on until the next election. That won't happen now though. He's stopped Andy Burnam from standing for Labour so the far left will be up in arms. Will Starmer change his mind? Why not he's done it 14 times in 18 months already so another once shouldn't make a difference. Reform are not going to charge for NHS at the point of contact. They will be cutting benefit bills and they will be dealing with the problems of immigration, justice, prisons, taxes and the list goes on. Why would anyone want a government that hates its own voters, prioritises migrants over the UK residents. Do you realise we tranlate English in this country into 29 different languages, only country in the world that does this. Just an example of the woke nonsense employed by this government. Be afraid of Labour and the Tories, neither tell the truth and if anyone thinks that voting for a hypnotist with the power to change breast sizes or Ed who presided over the post office scandal is a good idea, you really need help.

Betsylee · 27/01/2026 18:33

I hope they do and I'll definitely be voting for them. I have always voted for conservative but Starmer is the worst ever Prime Minister in history. I have never voted labour as they just support people who don't want to work and are content to receive benefits from those who do.

No chance. This country is dominated by the Left. They run academia, the arts, the BBC, the publishing industry and the entertainment industry, and they now have one priority - stop Reform.

As for being “terrified” 🙄, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I constantly hear the word ‘fascist’ thrown at Farage. Frankly, I don’t know how the Left have got the nerve. They’re the fascists. The Left have IMPOSED mass immigration on this country, and they have IMPOSED a new identity on us. No one asked for it, and no one voted for it. Now that’s fascism. It isn’t Reform who are stopping people speaking on university campuses, and it isn’t Reform who are re-writing the history books, or demanding novels be removed from the bookshops, or dictating what we can say and think. It isn’t Reform who are ‘de-colonising’ the libraries and demonising our national heroes and teaching us to be ashamed of our history and culture.

Though they pose as morally superior, no one on earth is more dictatorial, intolerant or hate-filled than the Left. But because their hatred is directed towards Daily Mail-reading ‘NIMBYs’, somehow that’s OK.

Agree and anyone supporting the uni party that have covered up the rape and abuse of thousands of children need to hang their heads in shame

The reason we're stuck in the cycle of the two party system is because the 'could get considerably worse' line is habitually peddled. While things get considerably worse.

I don't trust any of them, I thought I'd made that clear. And none of them stick to their manifesto, lets not pretend thats unusual just because we're talking Reform.

How on earth can you say that?

This country was bouncing along quite well (for most) between the 80s and the mid/late 2000s
Living standards year on year increased, further and higher education free, heck even Thatcher built my nearest city a huge new hospital.

Then came 2010 and Austerity, 14 years of cuts more cuts and Brexit, everything went downhill.

You expect any new Govt to fix that inside 18months??

How long would you give Reform?

MidnightPatrol · 26/01/2026 15:05

Given our existing parties have been able to achieve absolutely nothing, I can’t imagine they will be any different.

TBH they increasingly seem to be disaffected Tory MPs anyway. So it’s Conservatives but a big angrier about immigration.

illegal immigration….

I still think Keir's got time to turn things around. Labour's big mistake was to stop the winter fuel allowance. That seemed to turn people against them right from the start. I know it's been reintroduced, but the right wing press have done a number on them in the meantime. If Reform get in we're all doomed. I don't think they will though.

Labour are financially inept, look at the disaster re the rise in NI, sheer incompetence. Incompetence re justice -two tier Keir. Corrupt politicians having to resign, countryside hating agenda, yes, let’s just build over it and decimate traditions.

Quite frankly my 13 year old could run the county better.

The left has pushed the “be ashamed of Britain agenda too far” we need something more extreme to push it back to centre. Ie reality. I hope Reform win and I hope they ensure that British culture is protected,

I do agree with you. Also, I find, that if you are not pro Reform it's assumed that you are pro uncontrolled immigration and that is far from true in most cases.

A sensible conversation would move us all in the right direction but some politicians and media outlets really don't want that, they want division for their own ends.

I spent last week touring the North of England and ate in a different pub in a different town/city every night. I spoke with different people every evening - all sorts of people. We often had wildly different views but there were no rows, no name calling, we just chatted, found common ground, agreed to disagree where we needed to and had a pleasant time. If we were in pubs more and on line less the mood would change..
