To reckon that Reform will win the next election, and to be utterly terrified about it? 😪

i am a leftie

I think they’ll win

If don’t, they’ll have the majority in a hung parliament and govern as a minority party before joining with the Tories.

i’m going to tighten my belt re running my home and prepare for onslaught as the country becomes unrecognisable

Can that happen? I thought there was something about tReform that wasn't like a normal political party, that it was a business or something?

Edited to add I've just had a Google and apparently Farage can't be challenged in the usual way.

Edited

Open Britain is a pro European pressure group so it follows their views will be tainted concerning anyone holding a different viewpoint. The reason why Reform is incorporated as a company is to prevent anyone trying to initiate a coup. It is a private company therefore different from other political parties. It faces the financial regulator for any wrong doing in that sense and Electoral Commision for anything on the political side. This means that the name is preserved but also it has offered itself up to much more scrutiny by regulators than other political parties. Don't believe the propoganda that people post on the internet for any party. Do your own research before you vote. Don't let some shamelessly biased posting sway you. That's what Conservatives did for years.

Why don’t you wait until they produce their manifesto first. They will be scrutinised by the top political journalists, they will be forced to cost their policies, they will be held to account.

A UK prime minister does not have the same authoritive power as a president does.

What are you scared about exactly?

(I am the most left in this house, I think if Reform get in it will be x3 years of nothing getting done just scandal over ineptitude and text messages).

I think the current Labour party has shown that a manifesto means absolutely nothing.

they weren’t going to raise taxes , remember? Nothing about id cards, letting out prisoners early. They were going to smash the gangs .

That's the absolute worst of all arguments to vote for a party.

Why is it ? Please explain

The economy is doing ok & no where near "ruined"

Look at FTSE 250/all share indexes, UK companies, SME's doing better than ever.

Inflation is generally tracking downwards, interest rates 1.25 lower than in 2024.

Unemployment up but still, at 5%, way lower than the 8% we had under Cameron.... & we have AI, affecting jobs.

Sunak had 6 months of recession in Q3 and Q4 2023.... i expect you blamed that on "World Events"

There will be nothing left for a future government to work with at the next election. Look at the concerns apart from mortgage rates and current figures on recession. They aren't the only indicators of a healthy economy. These are troubling times for the fiture of UK if we continue on this path.

literallyarabbit · 27/01/2026 19:46

No. Given how many Tories have defected to Reform, it's pretty much the Conservative party, or to be exact, its dregs. They do not have a properly costed manifesto, nor do they have support at council level. They have proven quite spectacularly the cannot run local councils. They're all hot air and dismal failure. They also have a tiny number of MPs which is at least one good thing about first past the post/non-proportional representation. Their leader has zero interest in actually running the country or being Prime Minister because there's nothing in it for him. He's a rabble rouser who can't solve any problems, preferring to blame those in power himself. Reform and in turn, Farage are more potent as opposition, and will collapse in power.

Khayker · 27/01/2026 19:39

StandFirm · 27/01/2026 18:34

The culture wars won't feed you. Reform will solve sweet fuck all whilst making sure billions flow into the super rich's pockets.
For crying out loud wake up. It's all lies.

As opposed to letting scammers run off with our money through false DHS claims up to £50 million, ripping us off on green energy contracts that tie us in for years because Milliband is too deluded to see it. Elect more MPs with their own set of rules to the cabinet e.g., Rainer and her taxes or perhaps Tulip Saddique whose facing imprisonment in Pakistan, or Racael Reeves and her fantasy qualifications. The list of party affiliates, councillors and MPs charged with offences is rediculous as Labour are supposed to be a party of the people, what people not sure when you've got convicted paedophiles in your ranks. Our NHS is swamped, anyone needing a roof over their heads is out of luck, benefit payments are through the roof, taxation is the highest its been and if that's not enough evidence not to support Labour or Tories how about millions going abroad to countries that can easily support themselves. We even support those countries vested in terrorism that would happily see us all dead. Some people won't be happy until they're penniless, jobless and homeless. They're called Labour and Tory voters. Wake up and smell the decay in society as the majority of our children have no future at the moment.

Just wait till one of the Tories with Cabinet experience challenges for a top post.

Nige will flounce out to form a new party
and the whole thing will collapse

They can trash the economy very fast by being incompetent and corrupt. Look how much harm Liz Truss did and she was in for less than the shelf life of a lettuce.

Even if they don’t manage to succeed at ICE type stuff and destroying the NHS they will likely make us all a lot poorer.

Mrsgreen100 · 27/01/2026 19:30

Also terrified, the thought of Nigel Farage running our country is almost as bad as Donald Trump, labour of screw is conservative of screw us, please God Green) party Darne your sweaters cut your hair,
And get your shit together because you’re the only choice left, the thought of reform makes me want to immigrate anywhere, but the UK is bad enough now

Talkinpeace · 27/01/2026 19:20

If Starmer was clever (which he isn't)
he would rapidly push through PR
(not in the manifesto but that has not stopped him so far)
as then EVERY vote would count
and lots of the people who do not currently vote would have a reason to do so.

It would also get rid of "protest votes" as voters would know that they would turn into seats.

Reform are strong only so long as Nige gets his way.
His trail of destroyed parties is impressive

Couldnt care less. I am EU and never purchased a British passport despite having the right to so ages ago. Let them chuck me out because I am fed up with so many things here, anyway

Well good for you. In the meantime, those who care will try and stop that shower of shite.

Destroy the NHS ? The last government's have already destroyed the NHS beyond recognition and continue to do so. The N H S for most people is not fit for purpose and on its knees. So if Reform can do any better (which wouldn't be too difficult) then I say give them a chance.

They’ll win perhaps not with a majority so may be a hung parliament but I think this will flip politics as we know it on the head!

I will be voting to get Labour out, whether that means Reform or Tory

I will too!! .. who the hell would be pleased they voted Labour in! Not exactly going well is it!

FlorianTV · 27/01/2026 19:04

I’m terrified for woman’s rights, and what they’ll do to the nhs. I can’t afford a private healthcare system. The poorest will suffer.

TabathaRose · 27/01/2026 19:01

I’ve seen the repercussions in the US. I have two sons over there. How anyone could have overlooked all of Trumps stupidness and reelected him is beyond me and when I hear Farage it reminds me of that orange idiot over the pond.

The big problem Reform has is finding quality candidates. The have to find thousands for local elections in May as well as for the two national elections. So far, no Reform candidates have been announced for the Senedd, not sure about Scotland.

I don't think we should be complacent, though. Tactical voting might be needed in the next GE.

Quality candidates?? Hasn't stopped the other parties!

None of them could organise a piss up in a brewery, the whole system needs an overhaul, need to get rid of career politicians, leading departments they have no knowledge or expertise in.

bigdecisionstomake · 27/01/2026 18:58

@Playingvideogames

Banned no-fault evictions and introduced new protections for renters.

The latter part of this is just untrue. The whole point of banning no-fault evictions and making sure that landlords now have to give a reason for evicting tenants is to reduce the burden on social housing. All those people who were evicted for 'no fault' because it was so much easier and cheaper for landlords up until now often had to be housed by the council.

They will now be intentionally homeless (rent arrears, anti-social behaviour etc... and the council will be able to waive any responsibility for them. Alternative private landlords will also not take them as they will no longer be able to hide the reason they were evicted.

Anyone that thinks the Renters' Rights Act brings new protections for tenants is deluded, it will just become harder and harder for people to secure rented accommodation and homeless numbers will rocket. Increased regulatory burden brings increased costs and puts rents up. I work in this sector and the number of applicants for every property is the highest it has ever been.

My eldest DS rents and I really fear for him now. The irony is he has always voted labour (as have I).

I'm a bit tired of always being blamed for how someone else votes.

If someone wants to vote Reform, they should own it, and not do it because they are called racist by someone on Mumsnet. They should look at and support the policies because they are the most suited to them.

I don't think they will win. They have plenty of supporters but not enough spread through enough constituencies to win them all. And that's assuming an election now, who knows where Farage will be in a couple of years!

Well as long as you're not going round telling people they're fascists or racists or islamophobes for voting differently than you, I wouldn't worry about it.

I absolutely do own having voted for Reform previously, I'm not embarrassed about it. And I can sincerely say it was my experience in a uni humanities department that shook me from my mainstrain/default liberalism drove me onto other platforms where I was exposed to very compelling ideas that the left have disasterously failed to grapple with let alone offer any challenge to.

I am terrified that they won’t. I think they are our last hope. I am not sure they will succeed but they cannot be worse that the current shit show.

They are not our last hope. They've ALREADY made our lives worse through Brexit! Our growth has been anaemic (why are we not in the Customs Union and the Single Market?!), too much red tape for trade with Europe (unnecessary bullshit we needed like a hole in the head), young and dynamic immigration (thanks to Freedom of Movement) replaced by long term immigration of families with dependents in tow (nothing to do with origins here, I mean that the nature of immigration has changed thanks to Home Office bureaucracy and the new hoops to jump through)... and the small boats? Also the gift of Brexit disruption. I don't want to list the whole sorry mess but really, NF has already proven that the populist Reform/UKIP whatever you call them do not serve ordinary working people or the nation's interests. Why would anyone fall for their lies AGAIN?
