They were unlikely to be a mum

OP posts:

I would think that anyone saying that was seriously uninformed because in the uk about half of first time mothers are over 30so it is really common.

Fullfatandfortyplus · 25/01/2026 01:57

No.

Lamelie · 25/01/2026 01:50

More of my peers had dc in their 40s than 20s

Lotus34 · 25/01/2026 01:33

No? I’d probably think that they’re a responsible adult who is waiting until the right time in their life/career/finances/relationship before having a child. These days I’d consider anything under 25 very young to have a child and under 30 is still quite unusual. I myself was a first time mum at 35. DD (21) is determined that she doesn’t want kids until she hits 30. Wants to focus on her career & travelling first - I think she’s totally right!

Vaxtable · 25/01/2026 01:32

I would think it’s none of my business

Lifesd · 25/01/2026 01:31

everyone in my social Circle STARTED having kids in their 30s.

morebutterthantoast · 25/01/2026 01:30

No, I think that's still pretty young.
There is some statistic that's been quoted recently and widely that if a woman doesn't have a child by around 30 it's 50/50 whether she will have children at all. I've heard that and don't know if it's accurate. Even if it was, it may not be accurate now or in the future. Is it that you are referring to OP?
I also remember reading that in the years before the NHS was founded, one in five first-time mums were 35+.
Maybe I'm a bit unusual because despite the fact me and DH got together in our early/mid twenties, we only decided to start trying when I was 34 and he was 33.
I've got to be honest and say that I really never had anyone saying, 'Are you going to have kids?' So never felt judged. Perhaps most people thought I was younger than my age as I did look very youthful in my early 30s. Maybe not so much post kids 😂

Heartofglass12345 · 25/01/2026 01:27

No, 30 is still young! 40 maybe, but even then you can’t say for definite, my sister was 42 when she had my niece

Noshadelamp · 25/01/2026 01:27

Not at all. Lots of women have their first child over the age of 30, and lots more are over 30 when they have subsequent children.

I'm guessing you are 30 and being judged by family or friends for not having children yet.
Don't let it affect you, it's only their thoughts about you, doesn't mean anything.

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 25/01/2026 01:25

When I was a teenager. Probably.

Where I grew up, my family and friends all had children at a young age.

I didn’t have DC until I was 33.
I wasted a great deal of time distressed I’d left it too long. It’s all about the company you keep I suppose.
where I live now most are older.

jbm16 · 25/01/2026 01:23

Wouldn't assume anything, had our DD's in early 30's.

Catladywithoutacat · 25/01/2026 01:21

Everyone with a low IQ would think so maybe find yourself a better crowd

Alicorn1707 · 25/01/2026 01:15

SlB09 · 25/01/2026 00:45

Why is everyone being so mean?!!

No, I wouldn't not assume that. At least 10 to years left.

maybe frustrated @SlB09?

@Cinema777 also posted this thread, virtually the same

Texann · 25/01/2026 01:08

Are you saying that if a woman reaches 30 years of age not getting pregnant, then she's not likely to ever become a mom in the future?

Currantsultanaraisin · 25/01/2026 01:02

No, that would be a mad thing to assume.

Wildbushlady · 25/01/2026 00:54

It's not something that I really think about at all when meeeting people.

I suppose if a woman was 50's or later, and for some strange reason I was interested in her reproductive future, I would assume children were not on the cards anymore.

I don’t really understand this tbh. 30 year olds in 2026 don’t visually look much different to people in their late 20s…who look quite young themselves. Maybe decades ago 30 looked haggard but I think in 2026, 30 isn’t really the cut off point it used to be.

This makes no sense. Why would you think that ‘looking haggard’ at any age was an indicator you’d passed the optimum moment for childbearing?

ArseSkinForAFriend · 25/01/2026 00:50

AutumnAllTheWay · 25/01/2026 00:42

This is the stupidest post on here ever and thats saying something

Isn't it though?

I know it's Saturday night be there seems to be some sort of weird invasion.

They either all need to go to bed, or stick a lot more mixer in it.

TheSmallAssassin · 25/01/2026 00:46

Given the average age in the UK for a woman having a first child is around 29, no.

RueLepic · 25/01/2026 00:45

ExpectZeroContext · 25/01/2026 00:44

Absolutely. No women over 30 has ever in the history of human civilisation had a child

Edited

Well, until me. I was almost 40 when I had and the world was so surprised it threw me a giant parade with my name on balloons.

SlB09 · 25/01/2026 00:45

jezlifecoach · 25/01/2026 00:45

it’s 2026 and we still care what choice women make with their bodies? Huh

purpleme12 · 25/01/2026 00:44

Erm not really

Why

Echobelly · 25/01/2026 00:44

It would be unreasonable to assume that, yes. Barely any of my friends had a kid by 30, some of them not by 35, but most of those who wanted one do have a child or children
