He's asleep on the sofa and snoring so loudly that I can't hear the tv

AIBU to murder the twat?

He announced earlier in the day how tired he was. He knows that he snores like a warthog. As my title says, he has fallen asleep on the sofa and the noise is hideous. We don't have another TV in the house so I'm having to resort to subtitles while I seethe. I'm tempted to accidentally throw a cushion on his face and accidentally sit on it until the breathing snoring stops. AIBU?

No it isnt. You are correct @pinksheetss

That's unreasonable behavior, he needs to go to bed.

Why is he snoring so loudly? Is he overweight? Loud snoring should always be checked for sleep apnea

pinksheetss · 24/01/2026 21:13

Well if everything he does annoys you then perhaps it’s not really the snoring that’s the core issue…

Ohgodhesannoying · 24/01/2026 20:14

I wonder if starting a MN thread counts as a good albi? 🤷🏼‍♀️
He woke up before I could test it out

Turn up the TV.

HeddaGarbled · 24/01/2026 19:45

Oh, just give him a poke and don’t be such a martyr.

Record it on your phone and play it back when he is watching his favourite programme e.g. football or Peppa Pig.

😂😂

I’d just wake up him and ask him to move or to wake up. Don’t think it’s as big of an issue to be that annoyed over or like he’s really done it on purpose to annoy you.

Everything his does annoys me. This more than most mind you

Has he been tested for sleep apnoea? Falling asleep in the afternoon plus awful snoring.
XH’s snoring was horrendous and the irony was he’d moan if I woke him up! He refused to be tested for it. He went eventually (I assume at wife #2’s persuasion) and guess what? It is sleep apnoea.
YANBU to consider burying him under the patio. I considered it when sleep deprived. Turned out divorcing was the better option.

Oh I'm working up to that option...

My parents had a dog like this. I lost count of the amount of times I had to nudge him or shout at him to get him to shut up. He did once wake me up at 4am because of the amount of noise he was making

Callmecynical · 24/01/2026 19:13

Sit on him, he’s on the sofa! If he wants more sleep he can go to bed.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/01/2026 19:02

EmeraldShamrock000 · 24/01/2026 19:00

I could not snooze on the sofa. I love a good weekend winter day nap in my bed. He would be more comfortable in bed.

exhaustDAD · 24/01/2026 18:56

Just off the bat - snoring is not a choice, so just seething as it happens is literally the most pointless exercise that makes you feel crappy. He is not snoring to spite you. Could he have thought about it before falling asleep in the only room where you have a tv? perhaps... And you could ask him to consider it next time.

The funny thing is that it takes more effort to log into mumsnet and create a thread about it, than to just wake him up - a nudge, a loud noise, a prod, anything and tell him to get his behind to the bedroom, because you want to enjoy the telly.

What the snoring is about, we of course do not know.. illness, overweight, whatever the case, he could/should pursue it (we do not know if he is).. That is a different topic.
I'd just say, instead of calling him a twat online, I'd just do the simple thing and make him move to the bedroom so he can continue his snooze and you can enjoy watching TV.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 24/01/2026 18:56

Splash water on him or tickle his nose for the kinder option, start saving for a 2nd tv.

MammaBear1 · 24/01/2026 18:53

Poor chap - he’s tired. He’s not snoring deliberately to annoy you.
I napped on the settee this afternoon because I was tired. I know I snore sometimes. If my OH had woken me to tell me to stop snoring I’d have been cross. I wasn’t doing it on purpose.

user2848502016 · 24/01/2026 18:45

YANBU but can’t you go out or go and sit in bed and watch something on your phone?

HelpMeUnpickThis · 24/01/2026 18:42

YABU only because this might be a health issue.
Is he overweight?

Consider sleep apnoea and get him to a sleep clinic for a sleep study.

Just to reiterate - YABU vote is only because this might be a health issue.

tinyspiny · 24/01/2026 18:42

Just wake him up and tell him to move to the bedroom if he is that tired .

Lifestooshort71 · 24/01/2026 18:42

Mine snores when his head falls back. If he's in the right position, find a hard lumpy cushion, pull his head firmly upright (by the hair if necessary) and poke said hard lumpy cushion behind his head so his mouth snaps shut.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 24/01/2026 18:08

Why is he so tired this early?!

There’s always someone who says this as if it’s wildly unusual to occasionally feel knackered at the weekend and if you’re not in the middle of a task, sitting down relaxing and ending up napping.

Also there are so many normal reasons why people might be exhausted early evening that don’t particularly need to be spelled out - long hours job, shift patterns, children waking you in the night, for women menopausal disturbance, for men of a certain age prostate issues etc etc. Plus just older age in general.

Ohgodhesannoying · 24/01/2026 17:37

I'm way past that stage of caring about him! 🤣

But that would solve your problem too.

fashionqueen0123 · 24/01/2026 18:36

Just wake him up..

Why is he so tired this early?!

He didn't sleep well last night apparently. He warned me how tired he was but I assumed he would go to bed and there he was all set up on the sofa when I got home
