David and Victoria’s press statement

It's likely there was tension before the actual wedding day. It seems Victoria and Nicola do not get on, that is clear to see. Where tension already exists, seemingly 'small' things can become magnified - so if Victoria is known for wanting to be centre of attention, or attempting control having her children and their partners playing the part for the brand - then I can see how this would have been a stand out point of the day in the brides mind.

She likely is absolutely spoiled and maying vying for control with Victoria, but it was her wedding day...

I’d not be thrilled but I’d have had a chat with VB & the DJ perhaps. I’d be thrilled with a Valentino gown, to marry man I loved & have dear friends & family on my big day. They’d all have my back - not VBs- & find the funny side in time.

By God if this was worst event in my life to date I’d be thanking lucky stars!

A gracious person would’ve taken the mic and thanked him before saying he bride and groom should have the first dance.

I don't think it matters who wrote it, she probably helped him but it's defintely his sentiment.

Hard agree with all the fellow posters who have gone NC with parents, it's not easy and hardly ever to do with one specific thing or person. My DH was really close my late MIL and wild horses would not have broken up their relationship because she was a wonderful mother and alway put him and his siblings first.

It's a saying. Of course there is only one absolute truth. The trouble for the rest of us is working out who is telling it. The boundaries between truth, belief and mere opinion are easily blurred in the telling.

Like that cartoon of two people standing either side of a giant number 9 (or perhaps it's an upside down 6) painted on the floor, and arguing about whether it's a 9 or a 6, depending on which end they are viewing it from.

It could be argued that they are both right. All we know is that at least one of them is right, but the other has a pretty strong case for feeling they are also right, even if actually, they are wrong.

Whereas the people standing on the sidelines and looking at the number side-on are going to say 'well it could be either a 6 or a 9, it's impossible to say for sure.'

So Fat Tony claimed in an interview that Marc Anthony started his evening set on the wedding night, he called Brooklyn up to the stage, Brooklyn goes up on stage. Then Marc Anthony ( who is a good friend of the Beckhams, he is godfather to Cruz and harper) said: And now for his partner, the most beautiful woman in the room…Victoria. Victoria then hops up onstage.
Everyone, - including Brooklyn (as he says on his statement) thought it was Nicola he would be dancing with and who was being described as the most beautiful woman in the room. Nicola, the bride, then storms out of the room in tears- leaving Brooklyn on stage with his mum who ignores Nicola leaving and carrys on dancing with him. Marc Anthony was all telling Brooklyn to put his hands on his mums waist etc whilst this is all ongoing.

We really do not know. However, Does VB comes across as bad as Nicole within her circle dropped out friends? She seems to have issues and have sued quite a few people.

Agree. I’m NC with my parents. To the outside world they’re the ones who gave me a lovely childhood with a great education, raised me in a big house and took me to Church. Behind closed doors they fought like cat and dog, locked me in the garden overnight as a child so I couldn’t stop their (violent) arguing, my dad would punch cupboard and my mum would slap me and scream in my face on a regular basis. The police were called several times. After they split, my dad would leave me for weekends alone in the house at 13/14 so he could see his new girlfriend. My mum let her new spouse hit me and lock me in the house. Once I barricaded a wardrobe against the door to stop them attacking my mum; when I called the police my mum told them I was the one who was violent and ‘picking on her partner’ (I was a 7 stone teenager girl and very slight). Eventually she went through the criminal court system and they were convicted but I am still mentally exhausted from my upbringing.

My parents were only nice to me when I was portraying to the outside world a wholesome family image - when I was making polite conversation with their friends, or doing well at school parents evening, or remembering my manners when round at somebody’s house.

How do I tell people to above in casual conversation when they’re clearly wondering how my petty and ungrateful self could cut off my smartly dressed, polite, outwardly caring parents?

If you have nice parents, even ones you have a bit of a personality clash with but are ultimately good sane people, be thankful and please remember you have NO idea what goes on behind closed doors.

I recognise so much of what Brooklyn says. He may be workshy, he may be a bit dim, but none of that excuses what it sounds like they have done to him.

This is from the interview the DJ at the wedding, Fat Tony, has given to the Daily Mail (assuming their reporting is accurate). He states that Marc Anthony was performing on stage and called Brooklyn onto the stage. According to him, Anthony then asked for the most beautiful woman in the room to come to the stage, and then said, "Victoria, come to the stage". He then told them to dance and instructed Brooklyn to put his hands on his mother's hips for a Latin style dance - apparently Anthony is the top selling salsa artist of all time. Fat Tony says it was inappropriate and awkward. However, from his description, the main person to blame was Anthony. Even if Victoria hadn't gone along with it, Anthony had already humiliated Nicola by describing Victoria as the most beautiful woman in the room.

Brooklyn snapped because of their continuous briefings to the press- the Beckhams are smart in the way they handle the media - it might look like his snapping has come from nowhere but he sees the press briefings, the manipulation - it takes a while to realise your own family are fucked up as when you are growing up inside it you don't see the badness, as Mum and Dad - who love you, are just doing their best. It's only when hes had a bit of space and has realised the source of his anxiety - to do what he has done.

No one knows how hard it is to cut off parents, I do - it's fucking hard and only done to protect oneself when continual contact has a damaging effect. They won't get him back - they are continuing as before, briefing the press - it's laughable people think they are 'keeping quiet'.

Which he can deal with, with them cant he, or with therapy or both. You dont need to drop a public bombshell, its manipulative and incendiary.

That is what the hypothetical grandchildren will see so Im guessing thats the reference, why dont you see grandad and nanny Beckham dad? And they'll want to find out themselves, which they now will all over the internet archive, which will NEVER disappear

So you think bringing your child up as part of a brand, flaunting them online, summoning them to photo shoots, and making sure they can never be anonymous when you have the option not to is ‘good parenting’?

Having been on the end of a toxic, narcissistic mother in law who wore white to my wedding as she couldn’t bare not being the centre of attention (and we all guessed it!), I believe Brooklyn.

As for cutting the other family members off, sometimes people get caught in the cross fire. SIL is no contact with her Mum and DH was angry at her for a very long time and they were no contact for several years because of it. His Mum told terrible lies about her daughter. Truly painted her to be an evil person. Once he started realising his Mum is not a nice person and a compulsive liar, he reached out to her. It took a while for them to hash their issues out but they are on much better terms now.

He’s NC with his Mum and this has massively impacted his relationship with one of his brothers but what can you do. Until your eyes are opened to your toxic parents behaviour you believe all of the lies they come out with.

As usual it’s all my fault. The standard misogynist spew that it’s all the evil wives doing instead of understanding that there’s always a reason children go NC with their parents and they usually put up with their behaviour for years before they are done.

Now that would be worth a watch!

I meant 'young' when the damage started. Harry was 12 when he walked behind his mothers coffin & had to shake hands with a weeping public. It's clear to me that part of him is still stuck there. He also has clear grounds re press intrusion into his early life (only later muddled with his own waltzing with the press).
