Because this is the Yoonited States, where a lot of crazy people (a) love Trump and (b) have guns. Check out what happened to various elected Democrats in Minnesota a few weeks ago. There's a kind of informal equivalent of the brownshirts (we could call them the redcaps maybe) that would just lurve to kill a few "libtards" if they knew that they would get away with it.

He is probably saying and doing things that others fully support. They can then nod and agree silently in the background, while (as pp said) he is the useful idiot who does the dirty work for them. Speeches like Davos and the reactions to it take the focus away from what's really happening.

Whilst I’d like to think that influential people would want to stop him I have a horrible feeling that there are still many people buying into MAGA and think he is great.
It is seriously frightening that he has this much power.
