To ask if your teen DC vape?

Mumma1991 · 20/01/2026 23:42

Do your teen DC vape? My 17 year old DD has just started vaping and I’m furious as we are all non smokers in this household. Just wondering, out of interest, if anyone else’s teen DC vape and what did you do to try and stop them? Did it work or did they just keep on vaping? I’m determined to get DD to quit vaping but DH thinks it will be difficult due to her age!

Nope. They would take the piss out of kids that did.

CraftyMintHedgehog · 21/01/2026 16:49

My 15 year old doesn't. He thinks its for "chavs".

There would be consequences if he did start vaping though!

Yes

So insightful! Thanks!

Long term relationship? How do you even type that with a straight face. She is a child, it’s a joke you think she’s in an actual relationship. Some people are so quick to grow their kids up.

And they then are surprised when they get a teen pregnancy in the house.

Hmm about those adamant no - are you quite sure about that?! It’s pretty endemic.

Dd2 did we found them at 15. We didnt get angry but did a big we are disappointed / health / if it carried on we will restrict freedom etc. She gave up (verified by reliable spies) but said it was difficult as all her group did. She and her best friend are the anomaly as the ones that don’t vape. Mixed state / private party set.

Yes I am sure. They always thought it was a pathetic habit in their teens, and still do in their early twenties.

How am I sure? In the same way as you are sure that your daughter and her best friends are the only ones that don’t vape now, I guess!

I’ve noticed that smoking has come back into fashion with a vengeance. Early 20s don’t seem to be interested in vaping, just back on the 20 Marlboro Lights

If nothing else, how on earth can thy afford it?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 21/01/2026 16:23

Dd1 21 no, she has asthma and is into sport and so won’t even risk trying it.

dd2 yes. Since about 15 and she is now 18. I go on at her about the dangers all the time. She’s well aware but chooses to ignore. Just like me with smoking at the same age. Just hoping she grows out of it like I did.

@MNLurker1345 Snus is smokeless tobacco or nicotine. The ones you buy legally over here are nicotine, not tobacco. Comes in little pouches, like tiny teabags, that you rest against your gums and remove when done. People like it because being smokeless you can use it indoors.

My friends husband uses them, they are common in Sweden apparently. His teeth are horrible because of them.

Also the pp threatening “scorched earth” over vapes! Just don’t. It’s not the hill to die on in the grand scheme of teen issues.

We were advised by older wiser parents of teens not to go nuclear. How right they were. Relationship with dd preserved so when the really bad thing happened she was able to come to us and we faced it together. Destroying trust over sodding vapes would
have been a huge mistake.

I agree. Of all the bad things teens can do, vaping is pretty tame. I wouldn’t lose my shit if my teen did it. I’d rather that than smoking.

Oh thank you so for that. Ummm, things have moved on haven’t they. And no one would be any the wiser!

in the nicest possible way, and meaning no disrespect - your teen sounds judgmental and frankly a little mean!

Tbf I'd be very surprised if the vapers didn't also laugh at PP DS and consider him a loser. To vape or not to vape is often associated with your tribe, with each one 'cringing' for the other for different reasons. Its often the case that some of the rule breakers give the righteous ones quite a hard time, so that might explain why he's mean about them. Was ever the way.

I am behind the times, what is snus?

JustNormalMen · 21/01/2026 15:26

18yo definitely not. She's not in a vaping crowd. If she were to do anything it would be cigarettes I think.

15yo I'm really not sure. She's much more exposed to the crowd that do vape. I haven't caught her yet, and foolishly hoped the fact that she plays a wind instrument at a high level, and two of her close mates are really into sport might put them all off; however this thread shows that's quite a mistaken idea!

A few lads in her year tried snus. They went in at too high a strength and were vomiting as a result. This came home as "Jimmy and Johnny were doing drugs in school". When it transpired it was snus, and her aged mother had recently tried it in the pub with friends who use it regularly, it became far less attractive.

The snuz pouches are a big risk for mouth cancer, all cancers are scary but mouth cancer is horrific and disfiguring. Show her pictures of it.

I’ve done this . Every time I find them I’m the house I throw them away. I’ve taken away privileges , removed pocket money from both and they just find another way (both got jobs) it’s such an intense addiction and I don’t know what else to do to stop them

MissyB1 · 21/01/2026 13:00

Yes alongside smoking and those horrible little pouch things they put in their gums. I hate it but nothing I can do

My dd16 was also scathing and mean about vapers. After I found one in her room, she admitted that she behaved like that to put me off the scent that she was vaping (duh!!). An older boy in 6th form offered her a free one, so shes feeling cool with one in her bag. She says it tastes disgusting and she's throwing away when its finished. We shall see. Kids are expert liars....

OnlyTheBravest · 21/01/2026 11:19

I live in an area with a few secondary schools and to the 'my kid would never crew' you really do not know what your children are doing when you are not around.

Teenagers are expert liars and vaping is much easier to hide than cigarettes. All you can do is tell them about the dangers and hope that they are more into fitness than being in with the cool crew.

Hufflemuff · 21/01/2026 10:56

Ahh to those saying im being unreasonable - you might be right - but give me a break - im a year 7 mum... getting used to secondary school changes. We watched their primary assembly just 6 months ago 😢

I never smoked as a kid as I found it expensive and disgusting - but me and my friends bought cider, wine and even bloody vodka every weekend in year 9 and 10. We would either stand outside shops asking people to buy it for us, or someone's mum bought it. Looking back im just fucking disgusted at these adults who did this! We were drinking in fields in winter and throughout teen years I think we had at least 3 stomach pumps, 2 rape accusations and multiple injuries for falling down so drunk. We were only 14/15! I remember my Dad going ballistic and threatening to call the police on this mum who bought it for us and on the shops that were selling it to people, who passed it to us. So ive probably got my scorched earth mentality - not so much for DD trying it - but for the adults that should know better!

I mean for christ sake - my friend would come to school, take orders, collect money and their mum would go to asda and buy it (actually probably rob it). She was purchasing 10 3 litre bottles of strong cider, litres of vodka and wine - for 14 year olds! I think if I heard of this now id call police, school and social services.

Sorry guys big rant! Taking focus away from vaping too 🤣

CandiedPrincess · 21/01/2026 10:44

In answer to how to they get them @Hufflemuff kids sell them in schools. They either get them through older siblings or there's always one shop somewhere that will quite happily sell them to an older looking kid without ID. I know this, because this is how DD said she initially got them - from a classmate who would take the money and go buy a load for them.

CandiedPrincess · 21/01/2026 10:42

My DD did from about 17-19, only really on nights out at the pub etc, but decided it was costing her too much money so got herself an app which shows how much money she's saving by not doing it and hasn't vaped in about 6 months now.

Hufflemuff · 21/01/2026 10:40

anothergymmembership · 21/01/2026 09:27

How was she getting a hold of vapes at 14?

I've got an 11 year old, year 7... theres girls doing it in their year.

I think you've contradicted yourself a bit here @Hufflemuff 😁

Not really - my DD says she doesn't know where they get them from. She said theres a rumor the local premier shop is selling them and a rumor a PARENT is buying them for her 11 year old but it sounds more like gossip / girls trying to sound cool.

So i was asking how is this 14 year old getting them!? Because I genuinely dont know what to believe.

I've got an 11 year old, year 7... theres girls doing it in their year. I have in mind that if I find out my DD has vaped - ill be tracking down whoever gave it to hers parents, going to the school to kick up a fuss, raiding any corner shops she has managed to somehow purchase from, shaking down other kids parents who bought it for her. Real scorched earth campaign.

There was always someone at school who could get hold of them. It was a losing battle.
