To think people are missing the main point that Brooklyn Beckham is trying to reveal ?

Firstly I know the goings on of this family are not important news and there are more important things to worry about in the world .
But I’m finding it surprising that people are fixating on things like the wedding dress and the dancing . There are a couple of points in his statements when he is clearly saying what I have always believed- that David and Victoria are not a couple as they like to portray . I’ve always thought David’s disdain of her is quite obvious in the way he talks to her and that she appears lost and soulless but intent on preserving the brand .
BB says “ 'The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
Then - “ media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.'”

To me it seems obvious what he is hinting at ?

Speaking of celeb offspring whatever happened to Callum Best ? Another nepo baby with a very pushy mum. Couldn't open a paper once without being asked to admire his biceps. Did he take up a trade?

Not sure what he’s up to but his mum is dying of cancer. Was she super pushy? I can’t remember her being in the press that much. I thought he was mainly famous due to his dad, an alcoholic wife beating waste of space.

hihelenhi · 20/01/2026 17:05

I've surprised myself by genuinely feeling pretty sorry for Brooklyn here. While I suspect "recollections may vary" on the details of the wedding saga, the kid's been in the limelight, pushed, without consent, front and centre into the public eye, since birth. For what reason? Solely to make his parents money and to build the fake "happy family life" of Brand Beckham, (and yes, lots of people do still think it's authentic, sadly).

People have taken the piss out of him because he's no discernible talent but has been "promoted", again by his parents, to the point of embarrassment, frankly. It's sad that he says he's had a life full of anxiety. No amount of money is going to make up for a childhood that should not have been spent under flashbulbs and being "marketed", with the entire narrative of your life being controlled.

And in recent months, it's been nothing but his parents' narrative (and "ooh look, he's just like Harry and we Beckhams are suffering just like Charles." I'm not sure that he is. I think Brooklyn does just want to get away and make his own life for once.) And I don't have a problem with him wanting to put his side of the story, even if some of it seems more the wife than him - the childhood stuff doesn't.

Do I think he's gone from the frying pan into the fire with the Peltzes? Will he likely be ditched at some point? Probably yes. But I can see a lot of genuine pain there. As others have said, I think we'll be seeing more of this, not from him necessarily, but other nepo kids. It's not healthy to put kids in the limelight like this. Especially not to help shore up a sham marriage.

rainandshine38 · 20/01/2026 17:04

I’m more… disinterested to be honest. Pair of self absorbed arseholes spawn some kids, oldest kid is spoilt and despite using his name to enter a social circle he would otherwise never inhabit due to his lack of skill and intelligence he rejects said name on the grounds of his mothers dirty dancing and over use of social media. Yawn!

The Ramseys, Olivers etc took a very different attitude to their kids in press though. I like celebrity gossip but wouldn’t have recognised their kids on sight individually growing up or as adults whereas Brooklyn I would.
Brooklyn’s godfather is Elton John. I know he had 2 boys but wouldn’t recognise them.

Noodles1234 · 20/01/2026 16:59

I think this is true for a lot of celeb relationships that try and peddle a brand / kids into the business etc.

there are likely a LOT of NDAs and legal wrappings to keep everything they want seen or hidden.

it is up to us to buy into it or not. Sadly a lot of people do hence the brands do well.

OttersMayHaveShifted · 20/01/2026 16:59

YABU. That's all perfectly obvious. I don't think anyone's missing the point at all.

so don't bother commenting
BTW "disinterested" means non-partisan, I suspect you mean uninterested

FuzzyWolf · 20/01/2026 15:27

I thought everyone viewed them as brand and most people were aware enough to know celebrities and those in the media are rarely as they are portrayed, so I can’t see why people would have thought otherwise.

I also think that just as a result of his upbringing, Brooklyn will have a very different and distorted view of what things like control and privacy actually are. His life has no reflection on what most his age have experienced but his perception will be genuine to him, even if not to others. That doesn’t necessarily make it true or false.

I agree! It’s not a revelation. It’s always been brand Beckham. He probably did have an affair but they moved on. Brooklyn has always suffered with his mental health and I think being rolled out in front of paparazzi hasn’t helped. Could they have parented differently? Probably. I imagine Brooklyn was a handful as a teenager and now he is kicking back. And that’s fine. However, I’m not sure his spin is completely accurate though. Sat in a hotel room for a week waiting to see David for his 50th??? Was Brooklyn being stubborn? I’m not coming unless ‘blah blah blah’
I hope David and Victoria say nothing if I’m honest and just think this shouldn’t be reported on. Families have fallings out and that’s fine

Er the point that I made in the opening post ? That the subtext of his statement is that they are not a couple !!

AND?

In my small circle of friends, there are three couples that, for various reasons, remain married, get on well, holiday and socialise together but have separate bedrooms.
The marriage remains legal but the relationship is a friendship.

Nobody’s business but the two people in the relationship.

@Thistooshallpass. I'm with @CallMeDaphne on this one. Not being interested in something is uninterested. Uninterested vs. Disinterested: What's the difference? | Merriam-Webster

At least use a good dictionary source. Although the source you do give states clearly that disinterested fully means the same thing, it just can also mean something else - pretty normal for words.

Everything he attacks funded his life since birth.

Parenting is not all about money though, is it? You can provide your kids with all the material goods in the world and still be a shit parent.

Dweetfidilove · 20/01/2026 16:52

Is the marriage a sham to her, or is she just like many a MNr in an affluent marriage - desperately clinging on for the imagined respectabilty of a long marriage; desperately trying to keep their family together, desperately trying to beat off all the OW their husbands may shag... causing irreparable damage to their children; who will go no contact with them as soon as it's suits them to do so?

If the marriage was a sham for both, but BB was all that's important, she could happily be taking a lover with a NDA and living her best life.

Maybe the reason people say she looks utterly despondent while David looks utterly disdainful, is because like in so many of these marriages; she's still 'in love' with him and he's too much of a coward to pull the plug on their 'loving and successful union'.

Who knows 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Hopingforaholiday · 20/01/2026 16:51

4 children at various London private schools over years there will be Mumsnetters who have come across them.

Snorlaxo · 20/01/2026 16:50

The wedding dress and dancing are being most discussed as those are the bits that are new/unexpected.

Nobody really thinks that they are the way that they behave in public. We’ve had like 30 years of reality tv since the Beckhams got together so the public know about shows being scripted and people making brands etc. I’d say that Kris Jenner is the only other momager who is even more ruthless since she’s gone as far as cashing in on sex tapes and nudity. The next generation are clearly being groomed to repeat their mums’ lives.

If Brooklyn reveals details on the inauthentic marriage- affairs or whatever then they will be discussed too. He doesn’t need the money like Prince Harry does but the constant discussion of the estrangement must be stressful for Brooklyn and I can see why he wants the conversation to change.

Personally I can’t help but wonder how the Beckhams feel about their DIL coming from a family that is even more richer than they are. For example do they feel like they have to keep up with the Peltz family?

Op I agree with you.

I know!! everyone here seems to have a child who went to the same school or is otherwise in the know but can't possibly divulge any more than a virtual tap on the nose

Hopingforaholiday · 20/01/2026 16:46

He has been recognisable in a way other similar age celebrity offspring were not. Eg playing sports at school he’d be recognised on sight by opposition.
His best option was probably a college in US then just stay out of press for 4 or 5 years. He did start college I believe but dropped out. There also seems to be this requirement for him to be at events as part of family brand which would make staying out of way harder. If every family event and holiday is monetised and all over press it makes seeing family but staying private hard.
I wonder how much say he had in photography book and cooking show. If your parents arrange the opportunity, you are young and used to going along with things and do but realise in hindsight they basically put you in firing line of ridicule.

SunandWine · 20/01/2026 16:46

I don’t envy his upbringing, which isn’t one I’d wish on anyone, but I’m not sure he is in the best place to be whinging about inauthentic relationships.

Motnight · 20/01/2026 16:44

“* and it can mean -

•
having or feeling no interest in something; uninterested.
"her father was so disinterested in her progress that he only visited the school once"*”

Ooh that's an interesting addition. A nice point.

BruFord · 20/01/2026 16:43

Glowingup · 20/01/2026 16:35

Depends. Some famous parents will send their kids to top schools, focus on education and success, keep them out of the limelight and instal a work ethic in them. Some will give them ridiculous names that would target them if they tried to get a normal job, won’t be focused on education and will immerse them in a world of social media and publicity. That makes it very hard for them to have any semblance of a normal life.
And I think one of Gordon’s kids is in the marines and another in PR but it’s not like they’re all independent high flyers, eg Holly.

@Glowingup Yes, two of Gordon’s kids have normal careers, that’s my point tbh, they’re not doing anything special, just getting on with their lives.

Just googled and Brooklyn’s middle name is Joseph…he could always use that. I think David Bowie’s son dropped Zowie quickly!

LaurieFairyCake · 20/01/2026 16:21

I’ve never liked David Beckham, he comes across as sleazy to me. Victoria is amazing at designing, honestly she’s really respected. Definitely found her niche.

I feel sorry for Victoria and I wonder if the son is blaming her for the sins of the father. Which is frankly depressing.

You don't really believe that she designs them surely? She probably has ideas but she'll have someone else doing the designs.

Newyearsameme26 · 20/01/2026 15:12

I don't understand why they want more and more. They have all the fame and money they could ever want. Why don't they retire from public view, either together or apart? I just don't understand why nothing is ever enough.

Addicted to it?

I read an interview with Kerry Katona the other day. And, despite all the hassle she has had from it, she says she still likes being in the press.
