To think people are missing the main point that Brooklyn Beckham is trying to reveal ?

Firstly I know the goings on of this family are not important news and there are more important things to worry about in the world .
But I’m finding it surprising that people are fixating on things like the wedding dress and the dancing . There are a couple of points in his statements when he is clearly saying what I have always believed- that David and Victoria are not a couple as they like to portray . I’ve always thought David’s disdain of her is quite obvious in the way he talks to her and that she appears lost and soulless but intent on preserving the brand .
BB says “ 'The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
Then - “ media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.'”

To me it seems obvious what he is hinting at ?

He has had aot of opportunities to move in famous and wealthy circles but actually his family's fame will have stopped him pursuing a normal job/life etc.

@CleverButScatty Many children of famous people have normal careers though-a couple of Gordon Ramsay’s children have chosen to do this, for example, whereas others have chosen to stay in the public eye.
Wealth gives you immense choice.

Not many famous people have kept their children in the limelight as much as the Beckhams. Being instantly recognisable makes a lot of 'ordinary' options difficult at best and unsafe at worst.

I think that this isn't The Great Gatsby and we're not 14-year-olds in English class trying to dissect it.
Who knows what's really going on.
By the time we're old enough to be parents, and therefore old enough to be on Mumsnet, we should have realised that there are way more than two sides to every story.

To me it sounded as though his wife may be pregnant, or that they are trying for a baby. He sounds very protective and comes across as wanting to have a very different family situation now.
Looking at photos of him last night, he does often look very stressed. I don’t think he was exaggerating that at all.

Yes. I hope that is the case. I wish them every happiness.

GloriaMonday · 20/01/2026 21:41

@Veganornotvegan ,there's no need for that.

‘Eleventh hour’ isn’t BB speak.

Oh sorry, didn’t realise you knew Brooklyn Beckham personally and know what he talks like. My mistake.

You never know - a see-through dress worked for Kate.

to be fair, I suspect it was loyalty, secrecy, lack of social media & a stable family that worked for Kate

Marketing companies use this tactic (spelling and grammar mistakes) intentionally to make statements such as this one from the Beckham kid seem more genuine.

It’s the same as when celebrities (particularly the likes of the Kardashian’s) release photos with photoshop ‘errors’. It’s intentional because a perfect new photo will get a certain number of comments and interactions, but a ‘photoshop fail’ will get exponentially more.

Nothing in the world of celeb, PR, and marketing is accidental.

‘Eleventh hour’ isn’t BB speak.

Soonenough · 20/01/2026 21:30

Just thinking that the Beckhams are small scale UK celebs . Many people say in the States wouldn't know David as football a peripheral sport.

They absolutely could have kept their kids out of the media . Many more famous people have done so and their kids have chosen their own path . For instance Bruce Springsteen son is a firefighter, daughter and equestrian.

What's scary is that they have more kids coming along . How do they think it's OK to parade Romeo or Cruz age gap girlfriends? Still in teens with 29 year olds . Do they approve or are they afraid they will push them away like Brooklyn. Once wives come along, Victoria will be just another MIL . And wonder how she will like being a granny?

Thanks to the Beckhams for the Comic Relief

i think lots of people believe they are a devoted couple ! Especially after recent documentaries selling this .
and yes I agree lots of people are disinterested - as I said it’s not that important just interesting that I think the main point has been missed .

I genuinely don't think that a lot of people think that, but maybe it's just that I don't know anyone that does.
To me, that's obvious without his statement, the interesting parts are the wedding dance and the dress.

I thought everyone viewed them as brand and most people were aware enough to know celebrities and those in the media are rarely as they are portrayed, so I can’t see why people would have thought otherwise.

I also think that just as a result of his upbringing, Brooklyn will have a very different and distorted view of what things like control and privacy actually are. His life has no reflection on what most his age have experienced but his perception will be genuine to him, even if not to others. That doesn’t necessarily make it true or false.

Same! Are people actually naive enough to think that a celebrity’s public persona isn’t carefully curated, especially when that persona is their brand and their income?!

I expect the Beckham's are hoping that Harper will get with Prince George.
Best thing they can do now is stop putting Harper in her nighties and leave her out of the social media.

You never know - a see-through dress worked for Kate.

Fair enough, if you want top drawer musicianship though look at Deep Purple 😎

Are you a mindreader? I was thinking 'Jon Lord, Jon Lord' when I posted. He was classically trained though.

Favourite track?

She used to be in the Spice Girls so ridiculous dancing is fine, just please don"t sing, anything but that.

Very much so and it is no leap to believe it.
James O'Brien was talking about this on LBC this morning, he said 30 years ago he was writing a silly gossip column in the Express and published a silly story about her wedding the day after it. He said she phoned him up in high dudgeon to complain about it, the next day on her bloody honeymoon!

Seems all of a piece with her reported obsession with the brand and total control of the narrative. I don't think the happy marriage fakery has ever really fooled that many people.

Such a miserable way to live. Imagine going on fancy holidays with a husband with whom you have a relationship of mutual contempt and posing for lovey dovey photographs that are purely for public consumption..

They would have stayed up all night on their wedding day, sorting the photos for OK! This was before everything was digital. No doubt they were in love at the start but their wedding was a business transaction. As is everything since then.

PinkTonic · 20/01/2026 21:08

TellyOrNap · 20/01/2026 17:24

I don't think the publicity stuff or the relationship between D and V is the main issue at all. If they had been nice and welcoming to his wife I think he'd probably still be talking to them.

The thing about trying to protect the Beckham name when he was about to get married suggests they didn't even want his wife to be able to call herself Mrs Beckham and tried to legally stop her from being able to do so? MIL from hell behaviour.

The thing I’ve read today that rings most true is that the issue was the potential association between the Beckham name and Peltz, and this being because of the Peltz association with Epstein. So not actually MIL from hell, but yes protecting their brand. It seems highly believable that this is what caused it all to kick off.

Yes I know what you mean. I would sssume they’ve had a sexual relationship throughout though hence the children. I think it’s just a very dysfunctional relationship. I think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. He probably has been treated like a commodity but he has also benefited from them in ways most of us could never imagine. I think the comment about her inappropriate dancing was really low though, he knew that would be humiliating for her and she is his Mum. I don’t think he needed to include that, it smacks of his wife not liking it and asking him to include it. Even IF everything he said it’s true he hasn’t had it as hard as kids in the care system has he? He still has a millionaire in law family to fall back on. I don’t disagree with the statement as such, especially if they have been selling stories but I think a couple of things were far too personal. I think none of them have got any class. As the old adage says ‘Money can’t buy class.’

@KeepPumping , I know a few people (most are musicians) who don"t like or rate The Beatles ...
They were brilliant especially considering they were just ordinary lads with no formal training.

Yes, but most rock/pop musicians of that era had no formal training, they listened to albums and learned by ear and got shown chords by their mates. I agree the compositional abilities of the Beatles soared to great heights later on but in that era there were great musicians everywhere, the Beatles were definitely promoted (especially by the BBC) over other bands.

I actually think that was tacky of him to leave them in coach. I have no objection to children not being given everything on a platter but letting your family fly cheaply while you fly in luxury is a bit off. Why not fly coach himself if he feels so strongly about it?

Oh yeah, I am very on the fence with that part. I don't remember how old the kids were for starters. But I do think he has likely raised more driven kids because of the general attitude of money is earned not handed on a platter.
I remember someone showing me the "Rich kids on insta" page and it was disgusting 🤢

I don’t know what anybody else thinks, but I thought David’s “quest for the knighthood” was embarrassing.
Every time I saw him sidling-up to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth or King Charles or Prince William or just always THERE in the shadows - I cringed.
I was relieved when he finally was knighted because the whole charade was finally over.
No more painful “David Beckham with the royal family” episodes.
And honestly, I haven’t seen him with them since.
Now this.

Did you watch the Harry Enfield "Windsors" spoof with the whole "Beckham tries to get knighted by getting in with Princess Anne" episode?

LOL. Was spot on.

Yes, the whole incident was embarrassing and very revealing. I wish they hadn't given him the knighthood, I can't see he deserves it.
