I don't know what to do if
I'm really depressed, drinking too much(I know everyone's gonna say it is not a solution!!!),living with my mother in law for the past 12 years ,with all her depressions, with her son,my husband, telling me not to upset her!!!!!I've had enough and I don't know which way to go.... He doesn't do anything in the house,I am the one fixing things,I got our flat, our garage, her pension credit, her own flat-and she 's not happy anyway,I do everything in the house, but still people are not happy! His mum cooks,I work night shifts, and he only likes his mum's cooking!!!!He slapped me tonight and I wonder if tomorrow might be a better day...I don't know....I definitely need some therapy

Well, it forgot to mention we support his father, too!😅At least he doesn't live with us!!😁My family have got everything they need, they don't disturb us for financial support, and they always send us presents for our son,on celebrations. My father wants to leave me a 4 bedroom apartment and money, after he's gone, and it is a beautiful apartment.I'm just thinking,I don't need any more properties, because my husband will get everything,'cause I know he will live more than me!My father re-married after my mom died, and his wife said that he left a will, for me to have everything, and she wants me to have everything. She has her own properties there, she doesn't rely on my father or his wealth.I wanted to tell her,she can have everything, because she is taking care of my father, who has cancer, and she's been taking care of him for so many years! don't want a thing!I want him to enjoy as much as possible the time with her,if she made him happy! I sometimes envy the birds,up in the sky,(I know you would say now, that I need years of therapy!!!)and I think, they can go anywhere, they can do whatever they want...Have a nice day everyone and thank you again for your support!

I cannot remember positives, now that you've mentioned...I just now that he loves me so much till he hits me....

He does not love you if he hits you. And yes domestic abuse will be taken seriously if you report it.

Elsvieta · 22/01/2026 06:10

Can't live without you? I don't suppose he wants to live without you, as you're paying the bills, caring for his mother so he doesn't have to, and putting up with his abuse, which most women wouldn't. He can though, and he will. Don't listen to him.

Lime47 · 22/01/2026 03:03

I was talking to a colleague from work, she was saying ,do you have any bruises, anything to go to the police and prove what's happening to you? No,I don't have anymore!Last July I told him I've had enough with his mom living with us!She should go!I We were in the car,he was driving, and still could hit me in my right arm and pull me by the hair!Because his mum has to stay, she's cooking for him,of course-she has all the time in the world!!!Me-I'm tired all the time, night shifts for the past 12 years, and waking up at 6 in the morning to take our son to school after night shifts,
and so I can be daytime at home-dealing with everything in the household-have even struggled enough with the Council to give her a flat, that she got a month ago!And she's not happy,'cause the manager there checks on her every morning!!!To see if they're allright!!!She doesn't like to be seen as an old woman, though she's 69!!Now I waste all my days off, just to find her discounts for pensioners on water, electricity and whatever!I did it,everything I do,turns to be gold for them, but they don't appreciate,or appreciate just for a moment! And he says that he loves me and cannot live without me!Now,after hitting me!I was happy to go to work, and sorry for the late message-it's after night shift, but I feel better talking to you!Have a good night everyone and thank you again for your support!

What he's doing is called "coercive control". It's a crime, if you talk to the police they will take it seriously. (and of course, tell them that he hits you, and other things)

You deserve to be free, not stuck in your home all the time. Imagine being able to go and visit your friend whenever you want. This man does not own you. Good luck!

Lime47 · 20/01/2026 16:04

That's what I said to him:What am I doing in your life? You need just your mom!!He is looking at me like I'm an alien, what do I mean by that???And don't raise your voice at his mom,(because I've had enough and I started raising my voice!),try to behave! We have some properties together,in our country, but I want everything for our son,I don't care about them anymore! You gave me lots of courage guys and thank you again for your messages!!!

Elsvieta · 20/01/2026 12:45

If he hits you, he doesn't love you. Saying he loves you isn't the same as actually loving you. Performing affection now and then isn't loving you either. Abusers do that - be just nice enough just often enough to keep you thinking "maybe it'll change, maybe he does love me, maybe I'm unreasonable to want to leave." Just enough so you won't end it.

Make sure you have proof of his income and copies of all financial documents, stuff to do with property etc. Do everything through the solicitor - don't let him bully or rush you into agreeing anything without one.

I hope he and his mum will be very happy together. (You know that if you stick around until she's old and frail you'll be the carer, right?). Good luck.

Thank you ColdWeatherWarning! I want to be the person I used to know, again!I am full of life,I used to love life,I became a person that I hate ..I cannot go out because he's jealous,he wants me just doing things in the house,my friend lives just one bus stop from me and I don't dare go to her, because he would say I'm seeing smb else!I don't go to parties with him, because he says smb looked at me,or I looked at smb else!!!I don't care about smb else,I just cared about my family! But this is not a family anymore! This is just nightmare!I'll try look for advice and thank you again!

Thank you very much for your support everyone!I couldn't see your messages CherrieTomaties and GarlicSound, but I know you wish me all the best!My pub is closing in March, for refurbishment, for 3 weeks and he says I should take some time off,to stay at home.What???3 weeks at home with a mentally instable man? When he needs to pick up on me for nothing?Just because he is bored?Jesus Christ!!!I am not disturbing you anymore guys, you've got your own problems but I want to thank you everyone for being so supportive!I used to rely on myself only, dealing with everything because I didn't want to disturb anyone around me, and I knew I was strong enough to conquer the world!🙂It seems that this world is too much for me! 😇I don't know you guys, you don't know me,but I DO APPRECIATE every second of you time dedicated to my posts!I wish you all the best in the future, and you cannot get rid of me!I'll tell you how things worked out in the end....There should be an end somehow...

I just want to ask everyone, what is women's aid?Sorry for being stupid again!🙂

OP posts:
Lime47 · 19/01/2026 15:03

Yes,I live in the UK.And yes,I'm stupid!!Very stupid!I've been teaching all my life people what to do in certain circumstances,I am dealing with everything in the house,I am a good listener to everybody's problems at work, everybody's problems at home, encouraging everyone, but I've had enough!!!Everybody sees me as an angel, but even angels can fall...I am tired, and with your help guys, maybe I can go on with a better life🙂Thank you very much for your message!

OP posts:
CherrieTomaties · 19/01/2026 14:40

You’re not stupid. Nobody would think you’re stupid💐

You don’t have to take your son far away, but you need to take yourself and preferably your son away from the abusive household. Obviously it is way easier said than done when you leave an abusive partner. But there is help and support out there. Are you in the UK?

Lime47 · 19/01/2026 14:10

Money isn't a problem, and I've got a friend at work that keeps telling me to take my son and go far away! But I'm just thinking,my son is used to his flat,to his habits,so I carry on with this horrible life.I know you are all right, I am just stupid! And I deserve everything that's happening to me!Because I don't have the courage to leave...

OP posts:
Wittyapple · 19/01/2026 11:20

OP I understand you want to wait until your son is older, however.. it doesn't seem like a healthy environment for your son, or you. It also isn't right for your son to grow up thinking controlling and hitting women is right.
I agree with other posters advising you to contact women's aid. This isn't any way to live.

Lime47 · 19/01/2026 10:40

Thank you for your message CherriTomaties! And to all of you!He didn't use to hit me,till last year ,but recently he said that he feels like to pick on me!I think he cannot live without telling me what to do,why is that thing there?why do I use so much oil when cooking, why do I do whatever I'm doing,so I'm just terrorised! But,in the morning he sees me the most beautiful woman in the world without makeup!Isn't it frightening?I feel I'm living in a scarry movie, but I am real! His mom has 3 other boys and all of them don't want to know about her!My husband talks to her all the time, they cannot live without exchanging messages! And,of course, you would say I'm just stupid!🙂But,of course, you know by now -there is a son involved...He is 14 .So,I preferred to just be bullied and wait for my son to grow older,so I can leaveeeeeeee....

OP posts:
CherrieTomaties · 19/01/2026 02:25

I’m so sorry💐

But you need to leave. Am I correct by saying this slap/hit isn’t the first one?

Is his mother aware of him being violent to you?

Do you have enough money to rent a small flat or a room for yourself somewhere?

I echo other posters by saying contact Women’s Aid.

Do you have any family or friends you can tell in real life? Or is there anyone at work you trust and can tell?

You would be best seeking advice from whatever women's support there is in your country as MN is UK based and advice will be police, women's aid, divorce because that is how women get away from abusers here.

In the meantime, drinking around your child isn't going to get either of you safe.

OP hasn't mentioned a child.

Lime47 · 19/01/2026 01:51

Thank you for your support!I'll see what I'm going to do,because this life is just horrible!

The mention of pension credit surely means the op is in the U.K.?

Nevertriedcaviar · 19/01/2026 01:32

You don't hit someone you love. Please divorce him, you are worth a lot more than this pathetic excuse of a man.

Yes, police do take domestic violence seriously.
