Has lack of Premier Inn breakfast ruined the weekend?

The PI breakfast is pretty rank these days.

I get where you’re coming from OP .
PI breakfast would be all you can eat so you’d be full but I’d rather find a good cafe .
You needed to find somewhere open , no big queue , seats available and ideally an independent cafe .
While Pret is fine , it’s a chain and is everywhere.
He's being childish by continuing to complain after you’d all been fed .
If I was hungry and tired I might possibly be a bit whiny till I’d been fed but afterwards I’d be good

It’s frustrating having to walk about places and not finding what you want when you’re hungry. Premier inn breakfasts are fine. It’s hard to make a fry up badly and lots of other options. I’d have been miffed too, yes!

Well neither of us would consider paying for breakfast elsewhere when we already had it included in our hotel price but if he didn't like your idea he should have said so to start with.

There is no comparison between PI pastries and those freshly baked at an artisanal bakers and you don’t get a decent cup of coffee at PI. You were near Spitalfields and it didn’t prove difficult to find somewhere - 15 mins is hardly any time at all

i don’t mind a PI breakfast but if I’m somewhere interesting I would much rather go and have a ‘treat’ breakfast

if he was that hangry he should have said before you left as there was always a risk the place you chose wouldn’t have space

I no longer book PI breakfasts because the kids have aged out and it doesn't seem worth it.
DS2 isn't that interested in any breakfast unless its a) McDonalds pancakes or b) a hefty pistachio croissant and DS1 doesn't really like buffet contamination (he has issues with a lot of things of which this is one) and I wouldn't take H anywhere anyway as we're separated now, but even if I did, he doesn't really eat. So I can picture your scenario.
I do get why your DH got hangry, but Christ alive, he agreed to the plan, got decent food and I can't stand a sulker. He's not 5.

I don't think what he's done is reasonable and there's 0 chance I would marry someone like that as I like more adventure and can't deal with sulking but you have to work with what you have chosen or leave him. Surely you know him well enough by now to know that he's a sulker who doesn't like to try anything new/not have a plan? My FIL gets very stressed when there is no plan or things are inconvenient, so there's no way if we were having breakfast with him I would say - let's just go try to find a place. I would always book or do the easy thing like eat in the hotel. So i think you have to take some responsibility too - you married someone who is pretty boring and isn't good at free and easy and you have to adjust or put up with sulking. It's very unlikely he will change at this point.

Premier Inn breakfasts vary a lot - we have had "ok" ones (no better than that) before, but the last time we stayed the breakfast was so revolting. - cold, dried, unappetising, that despite having paid for it we left & went to the Costa next door for bacon rolls. Won't book breakfast in a PI again

We just had 4 nites premier inn, aldgate, london, perfect lovely breakfast… can i just say, have you got nowt better to do than complain about a bitmof breakfast when theres so much going on in the world….. really……

While everyone discusses the merit or otherwise of a premier inn breakfast, the real issue is your DH’s childish stroppy behaviour which is what actually ruined the day, not the breakfast.

I love a PI breakfast. If you ask for scrambled eggs they cook it to order. Plus I'm allergic to mushrooms so they plate up my breakfast in the kitchen. This is necessary because idiots use to GS for mushroom then put the same to GS back on bacon.

You'd seriously sulk (are you an adult?) about breakfast?

And the sausages :( sad little homogenous tubey things. And the hash browns that have either gone soft or are hard all the way through.

The bacon and the mushrooms usually survive ok though. (I like my bacon crunchy)

I love a hotel breakfast so I don’t think DH is being unreasonable in regretting not having it, or even getting a bit hangry when you were searching for somewhere to eat.

BUT he is being unreasonable for going on about it: it often happens on trips that something doesn’t quite pan out the way you want it to, but best to just get on with the day and don’t let it infect others’ enjoyment!

The scrambled eggs are usually the only ones that are put out buffet style. I think the fried and poached are always cooked to order, although that might vary from branch to branch. I mean a fried breakfast is greasy. That's sort of the point. 😆If you don't like it have something else. Plenty of other options.

But maybe you were just unlucky in the PI you were at. I've had three dreadful evening meals at different PIs where I've had decent breakfasts and I won't try it a fourth time.

To sum up. Very greasy, poor service and told although l could have fried eggs, scrambled eggs were not available because the scrambled delivery hadn’t arrived.

The Premier Inn I normally stay at when visiting family doesn't do breakfasts;instead you're given a voucher to go and get one at the Table Table restaurant next door (for a supplement of course).Dreadful reviews and I did it just once🤢 The Morrisons next door used to do a very good value breakfast and did a roaring trade from Premier Inn guests. It was rather sad -disastrous in fact- when they closed their cafe. Now I have coffee in my room and go a- wandering to find breakfast for myself.

But four of you could a have a full continental breakfast with as much Costa coffee as you like for 8.99 or 10.99 for the full cooked option, and that can cost even less if you get it included in a special offer room deal. You'll probably end up paying 8 quid in most cities for a large coffee and a croissant or pastry alone these days.

If you've got a long journey or you are on a day out with a packed schedule, a big breakfast negates the need for everyone to stop and buy an expensive lunch too. An M&S sandwich will suffice for those who really need to eat three times a day. And under 16s eat free. It's a no brainer for families on a budget with teens with hollow legs.

In that location though you're tripping over independent artisan coffee roasters.
