Thumbs up for Streeting

Just read Wes Streeting has got second biggest fall in waiting lists in 15 years and ambulances arriving 15 minutes faster. I think that's an achievement in just over a year in government. Bit sick of all the Labour bashing. Dread to think what NHS would be like under orher parties..Waiting lists 20 years long and ambulances arriving 2 weeks after you call ? A packet if painkillers £20. A trip to the GP £ 100 for ten minutes.

My local health board has been asking people not to attend A&E for the past four days on social media so I don’t think there’s an improvement across the whole country. I’d like to see the official data that backs these claims up as well because a colleague waited 14 hours with her MIL for an ambulance at the end of December and it seems to be a common occurrence in my area.

I wonder if you’re near me then - or maybe it’s just widespread?
QEQM Margate have declared a Critical Incident at the hospital this week. They are warning against trying to use emergency services there or even visiting other hospital wards. I genuinely thought something major had happened, like a huge accident or rescue at sea or something.
But no, just the usual winter ailments like Noro and Flu have overwhelmed what they can currently deal with.

Thankfully they’re not planning building thousands of more houses here with no additional GP or hospital provision whatsoever. Oh wait, they are…

Still, at least we’ve got fresh water supplies and adequate sewage provision. Oh wait, we don’t…

He alone has the power to stop the puberty blocker trial but won’t. That undermines any respect I might have for anything else regarding his control of the NHS

They’re unpopular with the media…especially daily nazi type red tops…thick stupid people read these rags & are very easily influenced. As for MN users who berate the Labour Party…I just despair!
For context I didn’t vote labour at the last election!

Good evening mrs starmer…

Good job Labour are getting rid of PCCs which are of course offer the potential for this kind of issue.

PCCs were a fine idea when it was felt they would represent conservative interests.

I joke, btw

Police have been incompetent over a number of things, for many years. Do some warming up before you make that stretch.

This is not incompetence. Read the reports.

soddingspiderseason · 18/01/2026 18:23

That is a long way from being “under Islamic rule”. Quit the hyperbole.

Several mosque leaders were on the panel that recruited the Chief Constable. Other religions were not represented afaik.

The PCC has been elected by a largely Muslim population and appears keen to do their bidding. He is not coming across as horrified by the behaviour of the Chief Constable and instead of firing him as the Home Secretary wanted to do, he ensured he was able to retire (for the second time) with full pension.

These particular mosques have extremists among their number who preach hate speech with apparent impunity. The police force are coerced into policing decisions by threats of numbers of armed men ready to commit violence. The police force consults Muslim community leaders on ‘how they want to be policed’ also leave the Muslim community to police themselves at many opportunities. This is not applied to other groups, especially not white British citizens. It is certainly not policing without fear or favour. It’s all in the report - the bits that have come to light so far appear to be the tip of the iceberg.

This approach is replicated across a number of UK police forces thanks to DEI and ‘community engagement’ which for one particular group has morphed into the police leaving them alone as much as possible and has led to the terrible situation of the rape gangs operating across the country with full co operation of police. Senior police have bullied and tried to silence whistleblowers.

Some moderate and ex Muslims are trying to warn us about the issue. I think we would be arrogant to ignore them.

You may have missed this happening?

Even Baroness Falkner has tried to warn us about what is going on. Strange that you find it funny.

Have you or anyone tried to explain to MN that in real life we cannot afford to pay put more in benefits than we take out in taxation! Too many people just don't get it. We seem to pay a lot of tax, but it probably isn't enough.

Yes - if I recall someone needs to earn £40 - £50k per year before they become net positive for tax contributions: that can’t be sustainable

@Mahanswarcanoe Ah! The judiciary overreaches? So you advocate political appointments for judges? I’m glad the judiciary upholds the law and applies brakes where needed.

Lack of productivity and Brexit have caused these issues with the economy. Every party has taxed companies and given to people who don’t work and given insufficient thought as to how to grow the economy. They have all shrunk it and Labour is doing its best to curtail employment and growth. Our growth is pitiful. We need this for the state sector to flourish. Labour just wants money from tax payers to give without reform. They must reform welfare and ensure growth to make sure it’s a more balanced economy.

Your views on the judiciary aside, I don’t disagree

Excellent news around the ambulances arriving 15 minutes earlier, so that’s just a four hour plus wait for none life threatening but serious cases and the life threatening ones might get there before they die

So you are happy to have no economic policy, no defence policy, no health policy, no environment policy, no energy policy, no transport policy etc etc just so you can stop approximately 41,000 people, many of whom are fleeing war, poverty or life threatening discrimination, from entering the UK. To put that into context, the 41000 is 0.06% of our population. Surely you're looking at those stats and questioning your own logic?

That number is per year. The total so far is 187,000 and they are not all from war torn countries. As you say, many are economic migrants and we are not obliged to accommodate those but we currently are to the tune of billions.

Some of the men coming in are terrorists and some are murderers and rapists who have already hurt people here. The numbers coming in are increasing and the costs of housing them, private medical/dental/taxis etc is growing. There is no sign of it stopping and Labour are not overly determined to do anything major about it. They also have a level of concern over the priorities of Muslims that is disproportionate to their population (approx 6.5% of the population) which leads them to ignore many other groups.

Reform appear to have a defence policy, maybe you could check the accuracy of your claim on the other policies?

Actually I think I’m being pretty measured: how am I stirring? Do you disagree with my diagnosis of the way the state works (or doesn’t)?

Frankly, this sounds sinister. Like the kind of stuff Trump said. Our state functions well. Yes there are things that could work better - like water, the housing market etc, but we are the world’s 6 largest economy and Labour are getting things moving in the right direction after 14 years of Tory mismanagement.

Wrong: the British state is unable to provide any kind of policy trajectory or momentum. Power is diluted amongst quangos, arms length bodies and the treasury. The judiciary overreaches. Cabinet ministers are rendered little more than talking heads. Brexit has denied our political class the familiar ‘follow the EU’ script to which they had become accustomed.

There is nothing sinister in pointing this out. On the contrary, it needs to be fixed or we will be stuck with zombie governments forever.

You are assuming my main reason for being a reform voter is immigration. You are wrong: I want someone to come in and fundamentally break the way the British state operates: because it does not operate well and we have politicians who either can’t or won’t govern.

With apologies, I didn't realise that this was a thread about migration. For the record, I'm generally in favour of highly qualified youngish people coming here from around the world for work, training and professional skill development for a few (four or five) years. I think most people want to have their families close to their own parents when they are newish parents. So yes, come to train, learn and return to improve the country you left as a student to teach and train the next generation in your own country. Otherwise we are plundering the best people from around the world.
