Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

It’s got to be stealth advertising. I’ve seen this linked on three different threads now, including ‘who got the worst Christmas present?’

It’s size 8, you’re currently size 14, but it’s just a little bit tight, so you could wear it out within, what? five weeks? to drop three dress sizes.

It’s supposed to be for your wedding anniversary next year? But now you’re thinking of wearing it to someone else’s wedding?

Anyway. No. Not suitable, for all the obvious reasons.

The bride is extremely glamorous. She wore a long cut out dress to my wedding, it was light yellow. It is not a church wedding either. Many of the guests will be wearing dresses like this to the wedding as she is very glamorous and works in social media so her friends are also glamorous. I have been to weddings where women have worn black and white before. Someone wore a white dress to my wedding, I did not mind. I was asking whether the white skirt is ok which was the only issue my husband had with it, clearly it is not.

Honestly? Ask the bride.

It's a breathtaking dress, and you are fortunate to be able to wear it so well. I wanted to say Yes, especially because of all you've said about being baby-bound and feeling like yourself for a change.

One woman wore full-length white to my wedding. I did mind because I suspected her motives! The women in all black and/or cutaway numbers, I didn't mind at all as I'd explicitly asked guests to wear what made them feel good. They all looked ace. The only one I felt for was my poor Mum, who'd completely squashed her very distinct style to dress as a MOB and seemed uncomfortable.

It's not a normal wedding guest dress - white and black are conventionally disapproved, and it is a tad lingerie reminiscent. It's as glamorous as all hell, though, and if your glam bride says yes, I want glam guests like this, then go for it!

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 16/01/2026 23:08

It's a gorgeous dress. I absolutely love it. What a lovely MIL you have. It's not really suitable for a wedding in the traditional sense though but it really depends on the bride and grooms social circle. It might be a really glam affair. Could you maybe find out what any of the other female guests will wearing?

Ohduckie · 16/01/2026 23:07

Absolutely not, far, far too attention grabbing. You will look like you're trying to steal the spotlight off the bride. It wouldn't surprise me if someone "accidentally" spilled red wine on it.

youngmum2000 · 16/01/2026 23:01

if someone wore this to my wedding , I would genuinely tell them to leave

youngmum2000 · 16/01/2026 22:53

Definitely not

Snowdropsaremyfavourite · 16/01/2026 22:53

No. If you tripped, you may spill more than your drink.

Terfarina · 16/01/2026 22:52

I think it is entirely appropriate for the wedding you have described. If you have any doubts run it by the bride. I hope you get to wear this dress & feel a million dollars.

hulahooper2 · 16/01/2026 22:48

not for a wedding , can’t think of anywhere you could wear this

cloudtreecarpet · 16/01/2026 22:37

I think it looks cheap & tacky tbh. And if the wedding is during the daytime it will definitely look shiny & cheap.

If you have the figure for a dress like this you could definitely find something more classy and flattering to wear.

Goodness, calm down everyone, who knew women had autonomy or we even had the vote. F**k it, if you want to wear it, do so!

And isn't it depressing that it's women tearing down other women over this stuff. 😟

If you want the vibe to be “prostitute on a fag break” by all means.

You're actually suggesting it looks like something a prostitute would wear? Bloody hell.

AquaShark · 16/01/2026 22:21

Sorry, not wedding appropriate but do insist on a fabulous night out to do it justice

Protolashist · 16/01/2026 22:17

I agree with your husband. Nice dress, just not for a wedding. It’s showing too much off and there is too much white.

If the bride is your friend, why don't you send her a photo of the dress and ask her?

MrsMumbleton · 16/01/2026 21:25

It looks too much like a sexy nightie to be appropriate for a wedding. Would your MIL be upset if you asked to swap it for something more wedding appropriate? Perhaps you could go shopping together and she could help you choose something? I don't know if that something you'd feel comfortable with, or if it's even something you want to do, but I really don't think you can wear this to a wedding. If you're absolutely determined, why not ask the bride how she'd feel about you wearing it? But also, make sure you use loooooots of tit-tape if you ever do decide to leave the house in it!

OneRealWriter · 16/01/2026 21:23

Definite no. I would have been really upset if a guest wore this to my wedding. Book a swish date night OP!

Rainbow1101 · 16/01/2026 21:18

No!!! It is too white for wedding! Wearing white is a big no no unless bride said it is okay.

Grapewrath · 16/01/2026 21:15

The dress is beautiful tbh- not understanding the ‘too much flesh’ comments. It’s a wedding not a funeral and what’s the issue with skin?
I bet you look incredible OP but I’d err on the side of caution and see if you can get a different colour

Grapewrath · 16/01/2026 21:09

OrangeisthenewBrown · 16/01/2026 19:33

Something like this would be much more appropriate for a February wedding, imo.

Totally depends on age though? I feel like this outfit would look frumpy unless the guess is an older lady?

Isthisfunyet · 16/01/2026 20:52

If you have to ask you know it is not appropriate. I used to be a wedding coordinator and have been to hundreds of weddings and this dress is a flat out NO. It looks very attention seeking for someone else's wedding. Buy another dress.

DogMa73 · 16/01/2026 20:38

It’s not a great dress anyway tbh. The weird downward curve of the hemline of the black ‘top’ makes the white ‘skirt’ section look so very round on the middle / hips, so the reverse of how us women generally want to look (cinched at the middle). If it was a slightly looser satin slip style dress with lace trim just skimming the body (Zara had some lovely ones), in less stark colours, that would be more acceptable, but maybe with an oversized blazer or shawl draped around your shoulders ?

oscalo · 16/01/2026 20:27

Try it on, hide your face, take a pic and we'll tell you honestly if it's right for you, not to mind the wedding!

No, you shouldn't wear it but if you absolutely must you should run it past the bride.
