Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

They mostly look ridiculous.

😅😂 I can actually imagine the Mumsnet response to Tana Ramsay (gold lace dress) and Victoria Beckham if they'd been daft enough to post here!

To Tana: Why are you dressing as a bride? Do you want everyone to hate you? You're making the wedding all about you!

To Victoria: You're the mother of the groom, show some respect. How do you think your son's going to feel about his mum showing up for his big day in her underwear?!

Both would be shown more suitable high-necked polyester outfits in desaturated pastels or navy, with obligatory floral prints and 'figure-skimming' straight skirts that remove any sense of a female body while flattering your slim waist.

I bet they're sorry they looked so stunning beautiful memorable ridiculous!

Astra53 · 17/01/2026 18:04

No. It's not wedding attire.

YABU
Too revealing ++++
Too white
Too black
Too Look at. Me me me
Too "evening wear"
Too tight according to your OP.
Why don't you compromise with DH and say you won't wear it but he has to arrange a lovely opportunity for you to do so and feel fab.

I was about to suggest that you get your DH to arrange to take you out somewhere suitable for a special occasion where you can wear that dress and he can dress up to your level at the same time. Leave it till later in the year when you are feeling more confident about leaving your little one behind for the evening.

If you feel good in it and want to wear it, then wear it. You can put a pretty shawl/pashmina on etc. I would not feel upset if anyone wore this to my wedding.

Or say to your husband if he doesn’t want you wearing it to the wedding then he has to take you out somewhere special so you can wear it and buy you another dress for the wedding!

Magsbd · 17/01/2026 17:12

It’s not suitable for a wedding. It’s an evening dress.

I don't think you can compare a 'celebrity' wedding populated by tall very slim people with a size 14 recently post partum woman squeezing herself into a size 8 black and white satin and lace dress. If OP is wanting to look glamorous like her friend, it would be better achieved by a dress in the right size, whatever style it might be.
(Sizes from one of the many other posts she has made about this dress).

I would suggest those dresses are somewhat classier. And the dress in question is, apparently, marketed as a wedding dress.

Completely agree with your husband and the vast majority of posters here.

The deep low plunge, low back, solid white skirt giving bridal vibes. It is a showstopping dress, but it isn't right for wedding guest attire!

Rhodie72 · 17/01/2026 14:09

Wowsers! No way!

BarilynBordeaux · 17/01/2026 13:13

Too ‘me me me’ and exposing for a wedding but would be proper gorgeous for a date.

No, you can't wear that to a wedding

Why?! They’d surely be able to say “it looks a bit bridal” or “it shows too much flesh” or “it’s maybe more formal than the event”?! These are reasonable things I can imagine loads of men with eyes and a brain being able to say. It doesn’t require a degree in fashion or a keen interest in wedding guest etiquette.

Well then we obviously disagree. Either way, I wasn’t calling all men incompetent, because that’s neither my belief, nor my experience.

SALaw · 17/01/2026 12:23

2026x · 16/01/2026 10:57

😂 what are you talking about?

I know loads of incredibly competent men but I’m not sure any of them (even the most aesthetically aware of them) would be able to give a good steer on whether a certain dress would be appropriate for a wedding.

Crochetandtea · 17/01/2026 12:23

It’s a very ‘ look at me ‘ dress and whilst I’m sure it is beautiful on you it is so unbelievably unsuitable for a wedding. I can’t believe you even think it’s remotely appropriate.

SALaw · 17/01/2026 12:20

ThatCyanCat · 16/01/2026 10:43

Oh come on, that's not what she said and you know it. She said men are not generally hugely switched on regarding women's wedding guest outfits. Are you contesting?

Loads of men have eyes and a brain.

Navyontop · 17/01/2026 12:17

I came here to say wear whatever you want, but I can see that’s a controversial statement.
I think it depends on the Bride, you could wear it to my wedding, but probably not most people here in your comments 😂

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 17/01/2026 12:05

Don't care about the white but you'll catch your death at a February wedding

deepdas · 17/01/2026 11:31

I don't actually see the problem with this dress for a non church wedding. It's not really vibing wedding dress is it? If you know that many of the guests will be glam in satin type dresses and lots of skin rather than silk crepe with a matching jacket and hat then go ahead.

offtocalifornia · 17/01/2026 11:21

I also agree with everyone who has said it looks oddly-proportioned and cheaper than it is.

PinkiOcelot · 17/01/2026 11:15

The bride is extremely glamorous. She wore a long cut out dress to my wedding, it was light yellow. It is not a church wedding either. Many of the guests will be wearing dresses like this to the wedding as she is very glamorous and works in social media so her friends are also glamorous. I have been to weddings where women have worn black and white before. Someone wore a white dress to my wedding, I did not mind. I was asking whether the white skirt is ok which was the only issue my husband had with it, clearly it is not.

I work in the wedding industry and think YES wear the glam dress to the glam wedding. You're not in a country church. You will look stunning! Mnetters are always weird about wedding attire etiquette IMHO, forgetting that the industry has changed soo much and the old rules simply don't apply to a lot of today's weddings.
