Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

Nope. It’s like something someone would wear to the Oscars! Apart from the obvious of it being very showy, that skirt will be creased to hell after sitting down in it for 5 minutes, you’re likely to get it dirty quite quickly as it’s so long, you’re likely to accidentally sit on something and get a dirty mark on the bum. It just looks very uncomfortable to be wearing all day.
Whilst your DH shouldn’t have the final say on what you wear, he was aSked, has said no and he has good reason. I’m on team DH!. (PS who gave it to you?)

BogRollBOGOF · 16/01/2026 06:34

The wedding is in February so OP is likely to be wearing extra layers for much of the day anyway.

While the lower half is white, the top half is black which stops it from looking bridal.

I think it's fine if it's accesorised with bold, non-bridal accessories.

ItsAJourney · 16/01/2026 06:34

Sorry OP, lovely as the dress is, it’s an absolute no from me. Your husband is right on this.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 16/01/2026 06:34

I’m with your husband

MegsyLondon · 16/01/2026 06:32

Edit: it was gifted at Christmas. I was told it was to make me feel good which it does. It's perfect for my body shape. I feel confident in it which I havent for a while.

Edit: my husband loves the dress on me, just thinks the white skirt is not allowed for weddings.

Absolutely not. Are you from outside the UK? I can’t imagine what makes you think this would be acceptable.

zzplee · 16/01/2026 06:30

Do you really need to ask?

Unless it's a wedding where it will be normal for guests to wear revealing clothes, then no.

Plus guests usually don't wear white because it's considered bridal.

And are you in the UK? February will be cold - what would you wear with it?

Boomer55 · 16/01/2026 06:30

No. Completely the wrong dress for a wedding.

Sciobai · 16/01/2026 06:29

No, not appropriate at all for a wedding and it is too white despite the top being black.

Kalimeras · 16/01/2026 06:29

The white skirt and low cut in the front make it unsuitable. I wouldn’t wear either black or white to a wedding

SnowWhitesAppIe · 16/01/2026 06:29

God No!

Offmybloodybulbs · 16/01/2026 06:29

It's the design - satiny and exposing which seems non wedding guest rather than colour. Colour I just think is weird. The black and white is jarring.

Lisavanderpumpsdog · 16/01/2026 06:28

I was all ready to say what’s it got to do with him, but no, you can’t wear that to a wedding. I just don’t like the dress at all really, but the white satin block like that is the main reason.

I’m also curious who gifted this to you and why. It’s a very specific item of clothing to gift to someone who never goes out.

CrowMate · 16/01/2026 06:28

No.

It’s also not a forgiving cut or material If it’s a little too tight?

ShawnaMacallister · 16/01/2026 06:28

No, far too revealing on the top half for a wedding.

2026x · 16/01/2026 06:28

I’d say no. Out of interest, what’s your husband’s issue with it? Men are usually a bit oblivious to this stuff…

HollyGolightly4 · 16/01/2026 06:27

No- too revealing and too white

(If you're going to reveal it's only a glitzy evening affair in a city centre cocktail bar I think it would be more suitable, but for a standard wedding - no)

ohyesido · 16/01/2026 06:26

It’s gorgeous but it could be seen as too close to a wedding dress due to the white flowing skirt. Is there no other colour?

dancingthroughthelightningstrike · 16/01/2026 06:26

Nope!

Gatekeeper · 16/01/2026 06:25

Definite NO from me

Squirrelchops1 · 16/01/2026 06:25

No, that's not suitable. Why do you feel it is? I'm asking kindly as you feel it's appropriate attire.

Mumsworkneverdone · 16/01/2026 06:24

Hi OP , beautiful dress but too much skin on shoe for wedding guest.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 16/01/2026 06:24

No too white and side booby

AutumnAllTheWay · 16/01/2026 06:24

No!

Cornishmaiden · 16/01/2026 06:24

The dress is lovely but not to wear to someone's wedding.
