Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

No, I don’t think you should wear it. It’s a nice dress but not for a wedding

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 16/01/2026 06:46

Also a no.

Also deeply curious who gifted this random garment to you, when it’s not particularly suited to your lifestyle. (No judgement there, unless you are a big red carpet event/cruise ship goer then it isn’t compatible with the majority!)

ViolaChomp · 16/01/2026 06:46

I'm saying wear it but I would wear a blazer with it and loads of necklaces layered. Gorgeous dress. If you style it right I think would be gorgeous and when you are sat down only the top half will be visible

Citrusbergamia · 16/01/2026 06:45

Absolutely not!
Far too much skin/side boob on show
Far too much white
It's a Feb wedding, you'll be cold nipples will be like hedgehogs noses and will take the other guests' eyes out

I mean, if you want to overshadow the bride, crack on but be prepared for comments!

KidsDoBetter · 16/01/2026 06:45

No. You’ll look daft and attention seeking wearing that to a wedding esp a Feb one.

Hope you get to wear it another night though! Valentines posh dinner ( somewhere warm?)

holjam · 16/01/2026 06:45

Absolutely no for a wedding.

Thingything · 16/01/2026 06:45

Ask the bride and let her decide?

a mate of mine wore white to my wedding. I didn’t mind as she looked gorgeous.

I’ve been to weddings where the vibe was definitely hollywood-glam where that kind of dress would have been fine or encouraged.

Toastythesnowman · 16/01/2026 06:43

Do you hate the bride? Yes? Then go for it.

Otherwise, its too much white, too revealing and too over the top for a wedding, especially a winter wedding.

Lifestooshort71 · 16/01/2026 06:43

Who gifted it to you?! Was it your husband who's now been backed into a corner? Anyway, totally unsuitable for a wedding, you say it's tight (so the skirt will crease around any bumps) and the top is too revealing when it's someone else's big day. Book a proper night out somewhere and wear it then, feel gorgeous and appreciated 💐

Ellie1015 · 16/01/2026 06:43

Its not just the fact the skirt is white, it is floor legnth and satin. It is far too bridal for me.

HPFA · 16/01/2026 06:43

Someone wore a top like that at my brother's wedding - on a freezing January day in an unheated church.

How she didn't collapse from hypothermia I don't know.

Don't wear it.

Untailored · 16/01/2026 06:42

Why don’t you work out what about it makes you feel confident and try and find something else that replicates that.

Icouldwriteabookonmydisastrouslife · 16/01/2026 06:42

I think as your DH is going to be best man what you wear is sort of a reflection on him and if he says no , you need to listen.

It’s a weird choice of dress for a wedding . You’re not the bride and I think it will be attention grabbing and not in a good way .

Back to the drawing board :) there’s plenty of nice , budget friendly dresses out there , you don’t have to spend loads of money .

HollyGolightly4 · 16/01/2026 06:27

No- too revealing and too white

(If you're going to reveal it's only a glitzy evening affair in a city centre cocktail bar I think it would be more suitable, but for a standard wedding - no)

I agree with @HollyGolightly4

Lovely dress for a cocktail party / glitzy black tie event.

Not suitable for a wedding - too much white and too much flesh

Everything0Everywhere · 16/01/2026 06:41

Gorgeous dress but it's the white skirt that makes it a no. (I don't think it is too revealing.)

Could you use this as an opportunity to plan somewhere to wear the dress to? Just not a wedding.

Simplelifeday · 16/01/2026 06:40

Goodness no it's not appropriate wedding guest attire. It's way too revealing and the naked back is awful for a wedding. You will draw attention in the wrong sort of way.

Save it for a date night instead.

Soontobe60 · 16/01/2026 06:37

Yep, it’ll look lovely with a nice knitted cardi from TK Maxx

I’d say a velvet or satin blazer - not a knitted cardi personally

LevitateStreet · 16/01/2026 06:39

Is the wedding in a church? During the day? On a freezing winters day? All of these are reasons not to wear it. A long white satin skirt is another no-no for a wedding.

There are so few occasions to wear a dress like that. It's like a film premiere dress if you're walking the red carpet. It definitely isn't a wedding guest dress. I can't help but wonder who bought it for you and why?

WonderingWanda · 16/01/2026 06:39

It looks like someone has chopped a wedding gown in half, too white for a wedding and I agree with others the top is too skimpy. If the course were different you could maybe wear blazer over the top and get away with it.

Something with a top like this might be more appropriate and it comes in lots of colours.

Peridoteage · 16/01/2026 06:38

No?! Its not the sort of thing you wear as a wedding guest

That's an attention grabbing dress - at a wedding the focus is on the bride & groom, not you. Way OTT.

Its an odd sort of dress to receive as a gift.

Perrylobster · 16/01/2026 06:38

I bet you look fab in it but it’s not appropriate. I’d tell him you agree to not wearing it as long as he takes you somewhere nice where you can wear it!

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 16/01/2026 06:37

Definitely not

Soontobe60 · 16/01/2026 06:37

BogRollBOGOF · 16/01/2026 06:34

The wedding is in February so OP is likely to be wearing extra layers for much of the day anyway.

While the lower half is white, the top half is black which stops it from looking bridal.

I think it's fine if it's accesorised with bold, non-bridal accessories.

Yep, it’ll look lovely with a nice knitted cardi from TK Maxx

W0tnow · 16/01/2026 06:37

No, but I absolutely recommend booking a posh restaurant and wearing it out. A dress like that needs an outing if it makes you feel good in it.

MyDeftDuck · 16/01/2026 06:37

Looks like a cocktail dress to me………the sort of thing a guest might wear on formal nights on cruise ships.
