Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

The bride is extremely glamorous. She wore a long cut out dress to my wedding, it was light yellow. It is not a church wedding either. Many of the guests will be wearing dresses like this to the wedding as she is very glamorous and works in social media so her friends are also glamorous. I have been to weddings where women have worn black and white before. Someone wore a white dress to my wedding, I did not mind. I was asking whether the white skirt is ok which was the only issue my husband had with it, clearly it is not.

Doesn't matter if she wore a glittery tiara and a long train this is not an appropriate dress for a wedding. You will come across as attention seeking and cringe. Also satin is an extremely unforgivable fabric that tends to get worse the longer you wear it.

I work in the wedding industry and think YES wear the glam dress to the glam wedding. You're not in a country church. You will look stunning! Mnetters are always weird about wedding attire etiquette IMHO, forgetting that the industry has changed soo much and the old rules simply don't apply to a lot of today's weddings.

It’s not just the wedding attire etiquette. For the cost, it’s got to be made from cheap fabric and poorly finished; the “satin” skirt will look as crumpled as an old tea towel before the wearer gets out of the car. Not to mention the static cling from synthetic fabric.

Lifelover16 · 18/01/2026 10:29

If it’s an evening black tie/ cocktail dress wedding then perhaps.
If it’s a day time wedding then a definite no from me.

Well I think it would be actually fabulous to wear to a sun destination wedding being honest 🤷🏻‍♀️.
However I’m guessing a UK wedding in February ? , in which case no not suitable , too bare altogether, just doesn’t look appropriate then ..

You should def book a fancy City Cocktail bar with your husband some night & wear that OP , especially when you know you look Fab in it 🙌 💃🏽 😊

FunkySoulMedina · 18/01/2026 08:45

Can you ask the bride if she thinks it is acceptable? Then take it from there? If it is a no, then definitely arrange another night out for you and hubby, maybe help with baby number 2 🤣
Stunning dress, and great taste MIL!

Wingingit73 · 18/01/2026 08:02

No. Its too white and too revealing for a wedding. Buy it. Wear it somewhere else.

Takersgonnatake · 18/01/2026 06:32

Maybe if you’re going to a big fat gypsy wedding 🤔
The colour is the absolute least of the problems presented by this item for a wedding. The whiteness would trouble me far less than the tacky and inappropriate over exposure of flesh.

Bankiebabe · 18/01/2026 03:47

No it shows too much flesh at top and too much white for a wedding sorry

Bowies · 18/01/2026 03:38

Your DH is a good barometer- totally unsuitable for several aspects of the dress.

If the only problem is the white skirt, could you get a chiffon over skirt for it? A shimmery drape of soft colour, would keep the glam feel but stop it looking bridal.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 16/01/2026 08:41

Then go glamourous, no one is saying you can’t. But you can’t wear this dress. You are trying to force fit it as you want to wear it.

Yes for me it's the white skirt that pushes it to a no for sure. I'm sure you will have another occasion to wear it one day.

CactusSwoonedEnding · 17/01/2026 21:27

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato if I had a body that suited that dress, and a relationship within which this could happen, I would definitely want to wear it as follows:

I would check into an extremely expensive hotel, where I would have a bath in a tub almost big enough to swim in, then get dressed into this dress and do everything I wished in order to present myself at my very best. I would go down to the hotel lobby where the concierge would help me into a waiting limo in which my beloved would be there, dressed in the smartest white-tie formality (he would have had a separate hotel room to get ready in) ready to hand me a glass of champagne to enjoy while we were conveyed to a multi-michelin-starred restaurant where we would enjoy a 7 course tasting-menu meal (one of the ones where each course is a single exquisite mouthful so you don't actually eat much) and the restaurant would have live musicians who, at a nod from said beloved (who would be the kind of person who'd do this, in this fantasy) would strike up a tango and we would dance together with such beauty and passion as to astonish our fellow diners, then we'd get back in the limo and return to the hotel and make love during which the dress would sadly be so ruined as to never be worn again. But oh the memory would be mine for ever.

Wouldn't happen though. I don't have the right body shape and don't own any dresses, and cannot dance a tango.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 17/01/2026 21:05

These sort of posts make me realise that I’m really not very “mumsnet”. All I could think was, £127 for that?! 😂

anyway. No, it’s definitely not something to wear to a wedding. I can’t think where you’d want to wear it tbh.

dreamiesformolly · 17/01/2026 19:50

Not very pleasant. Huge hips? OP said she’s a size 14.

I'm not being 'unpleasant'! It's nothing to do with her size, the design emphasises the hips! Have you looked at the pictures? Maybe OP is a size 14 with small hips, in whch case it would be ok.

Bamboozledbylife · 17/01/2026 20:32

Can't you ask the bride?

Idontcareboutthestateofmyhair · 17/01/2026 20:28

Massive no!

Nine posts, six of them about this dress (across three different threads), each thread showing a photo and link to the dress. One post even helpfully advises of availability in other sizes...

Do you think this is a vendor trying to sell clothes under the disguise of a fashion advice?

Pictorial evidence: Guests at recent celebrity weddings.

Hmmm, isn't the key word here "celebrity"?

Pessismistic · 17/01/2026 20:08

Op if you want to wear it go for it. You should not have to ask strangers it might not be typical wedding outfit but we all have our own fashion preferences and it makes you feel good. I wouldn’t wear it but I’m not you and you’re not me.

MrsKateColumbo · 17/01/2026 20:08

Too white, if it was another colour it would be ok (jacket to cover in church).

dreamiesformolly · 17/01/2026 19:50

ErinBell01 · 17/01/2026 19:45

Not very weddingy. But if you want huge hips to be highlighted then go for it.

MaddieJo22 · 17/01/2026 19:11

Love it. I'm maybe-ing. Church: no, fashiony one: yes. I have been to weddings lately where this would have been fine. But equally, ones where it wouldn't... so that doesn't help!

DappledThings · 17/01/2026 19:07

GarlicSound · 17/01/2026 18:16

😅😂 I can actually imagine the Mumsnet response to Tana Ramsay (gold lace dress) and Victoria Beckham if they'd been daft enough to post here!

To Tana: Why are you dressing as a bride? Do you want everyone to hate you? You're making the wedding all about you!

To Victoria: You're the mother of the groom, show some respect. How do you think your son's going to feel about his mum showing up for his big day in her underwear?!

Both would be shown more suitable high-necked polyester outfits in desaturated pastels or navy, with obligatory floral prints and 'figure-skimming' straight skirts that remove any sense of a female body while flattering your slim waist.

I bet they're sorry they looked so stunning beautiful memorable ridiculous!

It's all the tight satin. It's just weird turning up to a wedding in something that's a cross between an evening dress and underwear. They do all look ridiculous to me.

pestowithwalnuts · 17/01/2026 18:45

It's ok if you're flat chested. the top is a bit risky.
And it's not suitable for a wedding
