Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

Going against the grain I think it’s lovely and have been to weddings (up north) where no one would blink an eye. Take a hacket or something. But otherwise make an occasion to go out and wear it.

Funnywonder · 16/01/2026 07:35

I am honestly surprised that anyone thinks this would even be close to suitable for a wedding. Maybe I’m behind the times and, to be fair, my family hasn’t reached the next inevitable slew of weddings, but I honestly can’t imagine that being worn in a church. Too much skin exposed. While I’m sure it’s amazing on you, there must be other dresses that could make you look and feel great.

Cadenza12 · 16/01/2026 07:35

This dress is definitely not suitable for a wedding. I normally buy my daughter in laws a jumper.

Sassylovesbooks · 16/01/2026 07:32

The dress is beautiful...but it's far too low, there's too much skin exposed to wear to a wedding and the skirt is white.

MissDoubleU · 16/01/2026 07:31

Your desire to wear the dress, how good you feel in the dress and it being the nicest dress you own are not reasons that trump it being inappropriate for a wedding. Which it is. You will have to buy a new dress and save this one for another time. That’s just the way it is and no amount of “but but” is going to make it any more appropriate.

CactusSwoonedEnding · 16/01/2026 07:29

No you mustn't wear that as a wedding guest. It's a fabulous dress but one that is a clear statement that the wearer should be the focus of the attention of every heterosexual man present. That is not the role of a wedding guest.

Tell your DH to organise a fabulous weekend away for the two of you (including organising childcare that you are happy with) which includes a Saturday night event worthy of such a dress. His task is to make you feel like a goddess in it. You deserve that opportunity to wear the hell out of it. Do not abuse some other couple's wedding day to be that opportunity, that would be mean.

WimbyAce · 16/01/2026 07:29

You find it difficult to go out with current baby but you are planning on having another by the end of the year? Sorry I know off topic but no to the dress.

purpleygrey · 16/01/2026 07:29

No!

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 16/01/2026 07:29

This really feels like a wind-up or a reverse. In the unlikely event that it’s genuine: no, that dress is not appropriate for a wedding.

Muffinmam · 16/01/2026 07:28

Absolutely not.

Even if this were in another colour it still looks awful on the model.

HPFA · 16/01/2026 07:28

BlueEyedBogWitch · 16/01/2026 06:54

Bloody hell, no.

You’ll go down in the couple’s family folklore as ‘That woman who came to your wedding with her tits out’.

This made me laugh out loud!

The husband is being kind and tactful but as the best man I think he has the right to expect his wife to wear something appropriate. It's disrespectful on what is an important day for him to have half the guests whispering "WTF?"

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/01/2026 07:28

Definite no for the wedding, regardless of how you feel or only one night without the baby this year etc, it’s not your wedding. I’d make a real effort to get a babysitter for a different evening this year and wear it for a date night

Passaggressfedup · 16/01/2026 07:27

Well it's a sexy dress, realistically design to attract attention. Guest are not supposed to seek more attention then the bride and groom so you could find yourself very much upsetting her.

Saying that, it totally depends on the bride. My naturally sexy sister came with extremely tight black leather teasers and very high heels red shoes. She was gorgeous! It didn't bother me at all. It made me smile. It's her and I'm not the type to want all the attention drawn on me, so it was absolutely fine.

dancingthroughthelightningstrike · 16/01/2026 07:27

Please don’t message the bride and ask her. It then puts her in an awkward position where she might feel she has to say it’s fine or she’ll look like a bridezilla. The bride and groom might not even notice but you can bet the rest of the guests will be commenting.

Get something else!

Whaleandsnail6 · 16/01/2026 07:27

beigeybeige · 16/01/2026 06:55

Exactly this. OP don’t buy another dress because people are telling you it’s bad to wear an all- white dress, which this one isn’t.
To be sure why not send your dress pic to the bride and ask her, presumably you’re all friends you care about each other and she will tell you. Dark or bright (not white) coat and you’ll be fine. Some kind of stole (?) to wear around the reception because it’s Feb. Have fun!

I don't think its fair to ask the bride...puts her in a difficult position if she isn't comfortable with this choice of dress for a guest at her wedding

Op has had many, many posts from people saying its inappropriate for a wedding, not just based on the colour but style as well.

I'd take that as confirmation that its not right for this occasion and choose something else. You can pick up nice occasion dresses on vinted pretty cheap (I got one for £5 including postage) so there is options to find something to feel confident in that is "safer" as a wedding guest

BlueSlate · 16/01/2026 07:26

I'm afraid I agree with the "no"s.

If you wore it, you'd be drawing attention to yourself for all the wrong reasons because, even if you see no harm in it and want to wear it, you're going to be in a room full people who will ge looking at you and thinking everything you've read expressed here.

shhblackbag · 16/01/2026 07:26

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 16/01/2026 06:53

You can’t wear it to the wedding but ask your DH to take you on a cocktail date so you can wear it

Agree. Not at all appropriate for a wedding.

Moonnstarz · 16/01/2026 07:26

Absolutely no. It's very attention grabbing and I would see it as you chose to wear it to snub the bride for not choosing you as a bridesmaid and you wanting to upstage her. Everyone would be talking about the women wearing the revealing dress with white and asking who does she thinks she is.

You say this was a nice gift from MIL but I personally don't see it. You say you have no where else to wear it and don't plan on going out, so to me it's a waste and seems an odd choice of present from her knowing this. Something you would use every day may be less gorgeous and showy but more practical and useful.

BMW6 · 16/01/2026 07:25

Absolutely not suitable for a wedding!

Save it for the appropriate occasion.

Aluna · 16/01/2026 07:25

It’s part negligee part wedding dress so that’s a no on both counts.

I think you just need to find something to wear it to. Buy tickets to a charity ball.

BreakfastClubBlues · 16/01/2026 07:24

In the UK, in February?!
It's just completely inappropriate on every level.

But, as others have said, someone that would look good in that dress isn't going to struggle to find something to wear.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 16/01/2026 07:24

NO, absolutely not. Too white and too revealing during the day. And still too white as even in wear.

Couldn’t you and your DH go on a fancy date night? So you’ll have some other opportunity to wear this to?

Hdpr · 16/01/2026 07:23

No, totally unsuitable for a wedding!

Shessweetbutapsycho · 16/01/2026 07:22

The cut, colour and fabric of the skirt may as well be a wedding gown. Absolute no.

MangaKanga · 16/01/2026 07:21

queenofwandss · 16/01/2026 07:18

Sorry I don’t think so either, if it was different colours then I actually don’t think the revealing nature is a big problem (but in February you’d be freezing?!).

Tell DH you want to be taken to the races or a fancy do for you to wear that, then buy something else for the wedding.

You would wear a backless dress slashed to the navel into a church?
