Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

I think it would look great with a short fur jacket.
I don’t get all this angst about wedding attire, in reality nobody really cares. I couldn’t tell you what guests were wearing to weddings I’ve attended.
However, it is very low cut and tight so I think you would have to be thin and toned for it to look good.
Flat chested too as otherwise it’s far too booby.
It isn’t all white and as you spend most of the time sat down, people won’t see white, they will see black, and lots of flesh unless you wear a jacket.
Mist people don’t get married in church now so that won’t be an issue.
I do think you need a night out though op so that you can wear the dress.

Too much skin on the show, looks like a night gown-no.

IamnotSethRogan · 16/01/2026 07:48

Due to colour etc. I would agree it's not appropriate for a wedding.

Could you perhaps ask your MIL to help you pick a new dress? She might be able to find you something you love as much that's more appropriate.

Owly11 · 16/01/2026 07:48

No. It looks like underwear and it is white. Totally inappropriate but you must know that, right?

Bobiverse · 16/01/2026 07:47

Absolutely not, the wedding dress tail and the very low cut backless top is just not appropriate for someone else’s wedding.

Their wedding isn’t about you, so pick something else.

If the bottom was anything other than white I’d say it would just about be ok. But the majority of the dress is bright white and I think you might stand out (and in a bad way) if you wear it.

Deleted - comment went on the wrong post. Why does this keep happening to me???

"I'm out on the town" dress.....not wedding dress. HTH.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 16/01/2026 07:46

No no no. You cannot wear a dress that is mostly whit satin to a wedding.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/01/2026 07:45

Absolutely not

SkelatorIamNot · 16/01/2026 07:45

No not appropriate for a wedding but now you know what kind of shape you like to find something else.

ittakes2 · 16/01/2026 07:45

I agree with hubby re the skirt looking like a wedding dress … before reading your op I assumed you were asking if ok to wear your own wedding as your bridal dress

Scarydinosaurs · 16/01/2026 07:44

Book a lovely restaurant and go for dinner and wear it.

Find another occasion to get really dressed up - a wedding isn’t the time to wear this.

Channellingsophistication · 16/01/2026 07:44

As others have said it is not a suitable dress for a wedding. It's too revealing and black and white is not appropriate either.

It is a beautiful dress. Perhaps arrange a really lovely night out somewhere where you can wear it and feel good.

If you wear it with a jacket during the day and then without the jacket during the party at night then it’s okay to wear, otherwise without something over it, it’s too revealing for a wedding.

bumphousebump · 16/01/2026 07:37

No you mustn't wear that as a wedding guest. It's a fabulous dress but one that is a clear statement that the wearer should be the focus of the attention of every heterosexual man present. That is not the role of a wedding guest.

gosh is it the 1950s?

I don’t think it’s old fashioned to let the bride be the one that shines on her wedding day.

ShawnaMacallister · 16/01/2026 07:42

Why do you keep writing edit when you're not editing?

Worthalltheyears · 16/01/2026 07:41

It’s a beautiful dress but not suitable for a wedding.
I can understand your desire to wear it - find a babysitter and heaven a great night out in it.

Alltheyellowbirds · 16/01/2026 07:40

The white satin skirt looks very bridal to me, despite the black top.

its also a bit revealing - is the wedding in a church?

KrimboBell · 16/01/2026 07:38

Nice dress but wholly unsuitable for a wedding.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 16/01/2026 07:38

It’s a no from me.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 16/01/2026 07:38

beigeybeige · 16/01/2026 06:55

Exactly this. OP don’t buy another dress because people are telling you it’s bad to wear an all- white dress, which this one isn’t.
To be sure why not send your dress pic to the bride and ask her, presumably you’re all friends you care about each other and she will tell you. Dark or bright (not white) coat and you’ll be fine. Some kind of stole (?) to wear around the reception because it’s Feb. Have fun!

If she wears it with a long (at least knee length coat) and does not take the coat off (even during the reception etc)? Maayyybe. But this dress is mainly white. Most of the fabric is white. It’s therefore absolutely not appropriate to wear to a wedding.

It’s also completely inappropriate for most places of worship, which is where weddings traditionally take place.

And even if the bride were to share your opinion and agree to OP wearing this dress:
be aware that the other guests may still judge the OP!

carpetfluffs · 16/01/2026 07:36

I’m normally the first to say that the dress is fine but in this instance it’s really not.

I think it’s a dress that’s hard to wear anywhere tbh, particularly if you don’t go out!

Could you MIL not babysit for one evening?

WhamBamThankU · 16/01/2026 07:36

lol absolutely not
