Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

I really wouldn’t.

StripedTee · 16/01/2026 08:00

Absolutely not.

Barrellturn · 16/01/2026 08:00

The other guests will just see you as some weird woman trying to upstage the bride. Do you have previous issues with the bride? Is the groom your ex?

Bumble2016 · 16/01/2026 08:00

I think it's wonderful that you've found something that makes you feel incredible, but I worry with this dress the comments won't be along the lines of how beautiful you will look, but instead at how inappropriate the colour is. The style and cut is gorgeous but that big block of white is all anyone will notice I think.

Lemonsandlime87 · 16/01/2026 08:00

Ffs it’s 3/4 white!! And looks a bit cheap anyway but that’s besides the point.

unless the bride has specified in the invites that she isn’t wearing white and has welcomed guests to do, please do not wear it. Even then it’s not appropriate.

Nancylancy · 16/01/2026 07:59

I was torn when I saw the pic - I have seen many people where black and white dresses for weddings. But if the top was white it could be a wedding dress itself, so I wouldn't. It does look too much like a wedding dress I think. I'd love to see this on though! I'd never think of wearing something like this and probably wouldn't have an event to wear it to, so I can see why you're tempted to wear it!

Justgorgeous · 16/01/2026 07:59

Different colour and a jacket.

Gonners · 16/01/2026 07:57

Is your husband also going in fancy dress as a vicar? If so, it's perfect.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/01/2026 07:56

Are you likely to upstage the bride? If yes then don’t wear it.

monty2020 · 16/01/2026 07:55

With respect the wedding isn’t about you , it’s far too look at me and inappropriate.

JanBlues2026 · 16/01/2026 07:55

Why don’t you see if there are any events on near you such as charity ball, dinner and dance type thing. Hotels and bistros etc often have them for Valentine’s Day.

Too much skin on the show, looks like a night gown-no.

Agree it looks like a nightgown. I actually don’t like the dress, the black and white cut in the middle like that gives it more of a skirt and top look to the eye - which doesn’t work well with the two polar tones.

Still it’s 80% white satin. To someone else’s wedding that’s criminal, even if you did forgive the tight, plunging cut of it.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 16/01/2026 07:54

Red carpet yes, wedding no...but I suspect that this is a wind up

ClearFruit · 16/01/2026 07:53

Absolutely inappropriate for a wedding. But you're ignoring the unanimous 'No' from everyone and just listing the reasons you want to wear it, so I'm not sure why you asked.

The poor bride.

MagneticSquirrel · 16/01/2026 07:53

Definitely not suitable - the long white satin skirt means if you wear a jacket over the top for it to be less “cocktail” and less revealing and more appropriate for a wedding you could be mistaken for the bride wearing a jacket because she is cold (ok most brides wouldn’t do this but it’s not the point - it’s far too much plain white).

Even if it had been a different colour combination, eg blue and black (and not clashed with bridesmaids colours) it would still be unsuitable for a wearing without a jacket over top half until late in the evening (eg after dinner, speeches, first dances because it’s very very evening / cocktail wear, it’s not a nice or formal daytime outfit

Tbh the website looks dodgy & chat gpt has got to be involved.

Bishbashbush · 16/01/2026 07:52

Beautiful dress but definitely not suitable for a wedding. Far too much white and a bit revealing.

I find it so weird that a minority say yes it's fine. The fact that so many say it is not is the clear answer. There will presumably be many guests at the wedding so if 94% here think the dress is inappropriate you can guarantee it will be seen negatively by a significant number. Even if the bride thinks it's the most amazing idea of all time (please don't put her in an awkward spot by asking) doesn't it matter if the other guests disagree? You'd look absolutely attention seeking at any wedding I've been to.

And i bet you she will ignore us all and wear it to the wedding anyway.

dudsville · 16/01/2026 07:51

Great dress, really stunning, but it's black tie or evening wear. Some very glam weddings so follow that dress code, but there is a lot of white, and it is a very glam dress, so I could see an emo/goth/rocker story of bride wearing this.

Summerbay23 · 16/01/2026 07:51

It’s a no from me, I think it looks too bridal (in a thoroughly modern way). Love the dress though, book something fancy to do for Valentine’s Day?

It's so weird that your MIL knows your body so well to get you such a skimpy dress. Cash or gold would be more useful than dresses that you have nowhere to wear them to.

Alltheyellowbirds · 16/01/2026 07:50

Obscurity · 16/01/2026 07:43

If you wear it with a jacket during the day and then without the jacket during the party at night then it’s okay to wear, otherwise without something over it, it’s too revealing for a wedding.

Problem is, with a jacket hiding the black top you will just see the white satin skirt and then it really will look like she’s wearing a wedding dress.

Eenameenadeeka · 16/01/2026 07:50

It's definitely not an appropriate dress for a wedding guest. MIL can watch the baby while your DH takes you out for a romantic dinner in your dress.

MollyMollyMandy33 · 16/01/2026 07:50

bumphousebump · 16/01/2026 07:37

No you mustn't wear that as a wedding guest. It's a fabulous dress but one that is a clear statement that the wearer should be the focus of the attention of every heterosexual man present. That is not the role of a wedding guest.

gosh is it the 1950s?

It’s not ‘1950s’ to have the grace to realize that the bride should be the centre of attention at her wedding. It’s kind and polite.
