Can I wear this Satin Dress to a Wedding. Husband says no. I feel stunning in it, and think it is ok to wear.

Opinion needed. I got gifted this dress for Christmas it's a bit tight as it is my pre baby size, but it somehow makes me look smaller than I am.

It is cinched on my waist and then flows into a fitted skirt. I feel confident in it. I feel like me again. I have been desperate to wear it since I got it but we never go out.

It's my husband's best friend's wedding in February. He is one of the best men. I am not in the wedding so I wont be in any of the pictures or anything like that.

Husband isn't happy about me wearing it. Is it reasonable to wear it? I never go out and I think we will be having another baby by the end of the year so I wont get another chance to wear this beautiful dress. I also dont want to go out and buy another dress when I have been gifted this one and it is sitting in my wardrobe.

It is white at the bottom but clearly with the black lace top it is not a wedding dress. Be honest please.

ADEL

Classic. Commanding. Effortless. The ADEL Lace and Satin Halter Gown is an ode to contrast. Delicate lace meets liquid satin in a silhouette that celebrates form. A plunging halter neckline frames the décolletage, its stretchy lace bodice tied effortle...

I was all ready to say what’s it got to do with him, but no, you can’t wear that to a wedding. I just don’t like the dress at all really, but the white satin block like that is the main reason.

I’m also curious who gifted this to you and why. It’s a very specific item of clothing to gift to someone who never goes out.

It's probably a regift. Someone was given it for Christmas, unwrapped it and thought 'oh my Christ no!' and rewrapped it swiftly to give to the OP. She thinks is she looks stunning in it, so all is well, another dress saved from landfill.

On one of the other threads, you say it's a size 8 and you're a size 14.
On those grounds alone, I would say no.
That's not going to be flattering.

Oh no. Bias cut satin three sizes too small - that will be hard to pull off.

Yes all men are incompetent 🙄

😂 what are you talking about?

I know loads of incredibly competent men but I’m not sure any of them (even the most aesthetically aware of them) would be able to give a good steer on whether a certain dress would be appropriate for a wedding.

Hell no! Currently 94% of the vote say YABU and I suspect the bride, groom and guests would probably share that view, so wear it at your peril. Make an effort to find a lovely Spring Ball at a posh hotel or some other occasion to wear it.

ExpectZeroContext · 16/01/2026 10:51

Listen to your husband, lovely.

ChipAhoy · 16/01/2026 10:50

Nine posts, six of them about this dress (across three different threads), each thread showing a photo and link to the dress. One post even helpfully advises of availability in other sizes...

No.

Oh come on, that's not what she said and you know it. She said men are not generally hugely switched on regarding women's wedding guest outfits. Are you contesting?

I’d say no. Out of interest, what’s your husband’s issue with it? Men are usually a bit oblivious to this stuff…

PatriciaRocks · 16/01/2026 10:42

No, don't wear it to the wedding.
I don't even think it looks good on the model, because the proportions are all wrong.
However, if you like it and it makes you feel good, go out somewhere special with your DH before you get pregnant again, and wear it then, as pp have said.

I am flabbergasted that a MIL would buy their DIL a dress like this, it boggles my mind 🤣

No, not suitable for a wedding I’m afraid! Black tie event, sure. Get your DH to take you somewhere you can wear it.

It's certainly an unusual choice of a gift. Especially not the right size...

toiletpaperthief · 16/01/2026 10:36

lovely dress for a sexy gala, too fleshy and white for a wedding. Ultimately you want the attention on the bride and groom, not on your cleavage.

Namechangerage · 16/01/2026 10:35

Hillarious · 16/01/2026 10:06

Yes with a cardigan.

I wouldn’t wear a cardigan to a wedding either…

Fingeronthebutton · 16/01/2026 10:33

If your intention is to take away the attention of the bride, you’ve certainly picked the dress to do it 😱

Bot post to push traffic to the website? The dress is weird and tacky.

Agree.

Mintearo7 · 16/01/2026 10:29

No, but negotiate with your dh to go out somewhere fancy where you can wear if before you get pregnant again!

WaitingfortheThingtoHappen · 16/01/2026 10:28

Black and white are both unsuitable colours for a wedding and revealing outfits are unsuitable for any wedding, but particularly a February wedding.

At best you will look like an embarrassing fashion victim. At worst you will look like an exhibitionist with no sense of occasion.

The bride is extremely glamorous. She wore a long cut out dress to my wedding, it was light yellow. It is not a church wedding either. Many of the guests will be wearing dresses like this to the wedding as she is very glamorous and works in social media so her friends are also glamorous. I have been to weddings where women have worn black and white before. Someone wore a white dress to my wedding, I did not mind. I was asking whether the white skirt is ok which was the only issue my husband had with it, clearly it is not.

I think your circle is perhaps quite unique in their views on what's appropriate. I'm glad you are taking on board the feedback.

Yes with a cardigan.

If you want the vibe to be “prostitute on a fag break” by all means.

bumphousebump · 16/01/2026 07:37

No you mustn't wear that as a wedding guest. It's a fabulous dress but one that is a clear statement that the wearer should be the focus of the attention of every heterosexual man present. That is not the role of a wedding guest.

gosh is it the 1950s?

I don’t thinks it’s ever been wedding etiquette that every straight man at a wedding must be thinking about how much he’d like to shag the bride. Not even in the 1950s

I was thinking perhaps a burqa?

GlassofRosePorfavor · 16/01/2026 10:15

Come on now op

I was married 30 years ago and to this day people still mention 'her that wore the white dress' 😂😂
