Just been abused on the school run.. parking!

My three children attend two separate schools on the same road. I always make sure I park somewhere that isn’t blocking someone’s drive etc. DH parked in the usual spot today and I waited in the car today (I have a disability and get flare ups in the colder weather). She pulled up to the window effing and blinding then she got out the car and started recording me swearing in front of all the school kids. DH returned back and she started to recording DH and the kids. It was her dad’s property and she had accused us of blocking him in. We left more than enough space for him to get out I even offered to move the car.

I have attached a pic (the silver car wasn’t in front so if her dad needed to get out he had more than enough space. We parked on the white mark and there are other parents parked behind us.

I am trying to move my kids to a nearer school so I can walk and finally put the parking drama to bed. However currently going through the appeals process as the local school has stated that they have no space.

Were we unreasonable? I’m at the stage where I don’t even want to take them to school now because of lack of parking and the dirty stares and arguments being caused by this. I can appreciate it’s frustrating living near a school!

If your car was parked on any part of the orange line in your picture you were definitely being unreasonable and not considerate like you tell yourself you are....

How would someone in a wheelchair get past your car on that pavement?

its a normal sized pavement?

I’ve never seen her visit her dad I’ve been parking there for 3 years. I personally think she just wanted to park there as she had to park further up.

Well presumably she can park there because it’s her dads property?

You sound more and more entitled the more you post.

Not entitled I’m just not going to be verbally abused and recorded for the sake of a cm or two. I wouldn’t block someone access getting in out of there property.

This is clearer as I said if anything my car might have hung over the tiniest bit. To me it seems a bit of an over reaction.

Catcuddles2 · 14/01/2026 18:35

There is no need for abuse, just a conversation would be fine.

Even on this which will be you presenting your view, you’re over the dropped kerb.

and you haven’t said what the parking is like on the other side of the drive or the opposite side of the road.

You only think it's an overreaction because you're not the one being inconvenienced twice a day, five days a week.

🤣 Oh that is funny. She's over reacting to being inconvenienced every day, and you're terribly upset becuase you're going to have to park further from the school.

Could be 3 or 4 times a day if there’s a 2pm, 3pm and after school pick up.

Walkden · 14/01/2026 18:31

"We parked on the white mark and there are other parents parked behind us"

The white mark is on the dropped kerb. The dropped kerb starts where the kerb starts to drop. H bars s for example start and end at the diagonal kerbstone

All very well saying he has plenty of room but he has to get past you car and then manoeuvre / turn around it. This can be very difficult with narrow roads or with lots of traffic or cars on both sides of the road..

So ... if you weren't over the dropped kerb, how come you said you were parked on the white mark, which is over the dropped kerb?

Nooo op wasn’t over the dropped kerb, she was just over the kerb..? 🤨
wasn’t parked over the dropped kerb I said if anything we might have just been the teeniest bit over

Yes but the white mark is a ridiculous scribbled bit not even the size of a car. OP you need to do a better picture

Of course it's not the size of a car, there's no room on that photo to put anything the size of a car!

OP admits she was overhanging the drive.

I would guess the woman is on her last nerve and you got the fall out from that.

Literally why I am absurdly careful when I park anywhere not to accidentally piss anyone off, as I think lots of people are so stressed out at the moment. Just park further away in the future.

This. It seems the end of her tether had given way for reasons that are none of our business.

The kindest thing to do is just let them get it out. If the criticism of you even has any merit (it sounds like it might have), it isn't the cause of the rant - just the trigger. Don't take it personally. When they've finished, apologise if you did something wrong and let them go. Know that you did a small thing to help someone having an awful day feel a bit better.

They are probably just really fed up of a slight inconvenience happening twice a day 5 days a week.
Something that isn’t causing much harm, you’re not blocking but should be further away, but day in day out that would get really tedious for the residents. You got the result of built up frustration. Park elsewhere or they might damage your car next time.

Mugtree · 14/01/2026 18:27

She deals with people who think their need is greater than hers on a daily basis and was at the end of her tether. She's reacted badly and no doubt the cause of that isn't only the parking thing, but you know the parking causes "drama" and continue to do it. Just park considerately, further away.

bumptybum · 14/01/2026 18:25

SarahAndQuack · 14/01/2026 18:00

No, she says she parked on the white mark. Go read it again.

Road tax doesnt give people rights to the road. You werent on the dropped curb so fine. Also swearing and aggression is never really OK she was U

Road tax was abolished in the 1930s

It does look like you were on the dropped kerb, unless it's my eyes.

Well yes. It’s your eyes as her car isn’t in the picture

bumptybum · 14/01/2026 18:22

SugarCoatSandwich · 14/01/2026 17:25

You are blocking the driveway.

How would someone get out if someone else had parked exactly the same as you?

How could they safely get in and out Without risking kocking over pedestrians.

Flip the question for a moment... if someone wanted to park on that driveway and pretended your car wasn't there, could they park without hitting you?

What's on the other side? Are they having to navigate off the drive, turn into oncoming traffic or near a corner?

Terrible parking on you part. Shameful.

Not excusing the abuse but take responsibility for being a responsible driver. Its unsafe.

We can’t see if the OP was blocking anyone in as the photo doesn’t show the OPs car

Exactly 😕

WonderingWanda · 14/01/2026 18:20

She shouldn't have abused you but it does look like you are overhanging the drop kerb and whilst that gap is wide enough for a car it's impossible to tell from your photo if there is enough room for turning. In addition that is quite an obscured driveway so you are also blocking visibility.
