Can a baby speak Parseltongue?

Yes, my husband finds it funny. But since our daughter turned five months old, she’s been making sounds that honestly sound like Parseltongue from Harry Potter. 🫣 Has anyone else experienced the same? She’s seven months old now.

Is she doing this because it gets a positive reaction from her dad so she repeats it for his reaction. They do make loads of different and unique sounds.
Otherwise expect a hogwarts letter when she’s 11!

Thank you 🫶

Crikey! Don’t take her to any zoos or aquariums. Seal up your letter box and watch out for any weirdly dressed folks hanging around the lampposts at the end of your street.

My eldest used to say raar raaar. Turns out she was actually a dinosaur, she's now 4279 million months old and totally fine. Bit of an issue with scaley skin but fine otherwise

Oh yes, we're all terribly concerned that our children will have an affinity with the Dark Lord. Rush her straight to A&E and also, stop smiling because this is SERIOUS.

OP, when my DD was 6 months old I took her to an art gallery and she blew raspberries all the way around. I liked to think it was a post-modern comment on the brutalist architecture, but retrospectively, I think she was just testing out the different noises she could make.

Don’t worry, OP, I think there’s just one very oddly serious poster.

Why, thank you 😬

Some people irl think their children are possessed by devils. They subject them to horrendous exorcism ceremonies.
So how do you know OP isn't serious?
It's an exceptionally weird thing to say about your wee baby.

Its such a bore that some people, perhaps you, cant engage in threads in a lighthearted, tongue in cheek, read the room manner.

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 14/01/2026 19:40

This is hilarious
I am a massive HP fan. I would have found this brilliant if either DC had done this as babies. Perhaps not as older children.

You'd have to closely ssssssssssstudy what the child is ssssssssssaying in order to be ssssssssssure. Isssssssss there sssssssssomeone who could sssssssssit with you and lissssssssten to her ssssssssssoumds, as an independent witnesssssssssss? 🐍👅

DC3 called me a muggle when he was 2 weeks old. (Of course it wasn't baby-babble! 😜)
He does have the magical power of destruction now he's 7.

Well mine babbled incomprehensibly but quite earnestly. We used to say she was communicating with the mother ship.
Do you mean something like that?

She makes sounds like ‘meee’ and ‘beee,’ but sometimes she looks you straight in the eyes, very serious, and something very ‘shapishhhh’ comes out 😄 I didn’t mean to make anyone angry here — I was just asking about other people’s experiences.

My DD babbled non- stop at the age, but the sounds she used weren't just 'English' ones - the usual mumumum or dada type sounds. She seemed to manage sounds that sounded like French, and Welsh and all sorts. If you weren't really concentrating, it really sounded as though she was speaking in a foreign language that we didn't understand.
She started speaking properly at about 10 months and soon had a huge vocabulary. She's 21 now and hasn't really stopped talking since 😆

Thank you for sharing your experience ☺️

Make them back to her OP, she'll learn about the idea of taking turns in a conversation and it's a great way of bonding.

I'm very jealous, I'd love to have a wizard baby.

My daughter did some sort of wee chant when she was about that age and we said she was doing voodoo. It also went along with strange hand movements. Funnily enough she is now obsessed with Harry Potter so may be it was parseltongue 😂

Thank you for sharing it ☺️

Is she a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin? That makes it more likely.

(Unless you're serious and not joking in which case... You need to speak to someone medical and very not wizardy fairly urgently).

Edited

husband votes for Slytherin 🫣

Not really.

I just find this whole Harry Potter stuff really annoying and so I found OP relating her little ones lovely baby noises to it a bit of a shame.

Oh my, I didn’t mean to stir up so much anger here. I was just asking whether anyone else had a similar experience. Sorry.
No matter what she says, she’s an adorable baby.❤️

What do you mean by 'this Harry Potter stuff'? You find a popular children's book series that's encouraged kids all across the world to read books 'really annoying'? Ok.
