Apologies cant see a thread about this.
Staff at Bristol Brunel academy blocked a visit by Damien Egan, their local MP because he is Jewish. Clear case of antisemitism. AIBU to thinking that headteacher and those driving this decision should be sacked and reported to the Teacher Regulation Agency?
(Apologies thread title isnt correct, but i can't edit it)

I vote YABU OP and disingenuous too.

OK, more semantics as par on the antisemitic threads.

hihelenhi · 13/01/2026 14:28

Unbelievably blatant anti-semitism on this thread. What the hell is wrong with some of you? Shame on you.

  • A person happening to be Jewish does not mean they "support genocide"
  • A person supporting the safe existence of a Jewish state also does not mean they "support genocide"
  • A person thinking that Israel and its citizens should be allowed to exist safely as a sovereign nation does not mean they "support genocide"
  • All Israelis are not Netanyahu supporters and should not be held responsible for his specific actions or be assumed to share all his views.
  • Inidividual Jews are not responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, any more than a Muslim person anywhere in the world is personally responsible for the actions of specific Muslim governments around the world.
  • Individual Israelis are not responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, any more than you are responsible personally for the actions of the UK government at any point in history or now.
  • The Friends of Israel are not necessarily supportive of all the current actions of the present Israeli government, and they are not responsible for any of those government policies, since they don't make them.
  • All Jewish people are not Israelis
  • All Israelis are not "supporters of genocide". That is an unevidenced and frankly racist smear.
  • The question of whether the actions and war in Gaza could accurately described as "genocide' in any case is hugely controversial. You know this. The Holocaust WAS unquestionably genocide. It specifically targeted Jewish people for being Jews in an attempt to eradicate them as an ethnicity. This was industrialised by a government. You might argue that Hamas supporters are genocidal in intent, given they use the same language about eradicating and killing Jews specifically, as a race, as Hitler did. The killings of Muslims during the Balkan wars were also unquestionably genocidal in intent. But are retaliatory bombing campaigns, however brutal, of Gaza, different in some material way to other horrific bombing campaigns in other wars that lead to huge loss of life? Are they actually designed to rid the world of Palestinians per se ? Was the intent of the bombing of Hiroshima to rid the world of Japanese people, say, or did it have another purpose? What about the British bombing of Dresden, which caused immense loss of life and suffering? Was the intent specifically to eradicate Germans and the Aryan race or something else?
  • "Zionist" just means supporter of the existence of the state of Israel. If you are using it as a way to demonise all Israelis and all Jews to make false claims about their views, then yes, you are a racist and anti semite.
  • Threatening to protest a UK Labour MP at a school on the basis he is Jewish is appalling anti semitism. those doing so are blaming all Jewish people for the current actions of a government which they are not responsible for. What do you think the "protest" will achieve? What is it designed to do? Does the "right to protest" include inciting racial hatred?
  • Threatening to protest a UK Labour MP at a school on the basis he is a Friend of Israel is also anti semitism. Because, as above, "Israel" and "Israelis" are not synonymous with the actions of a current government.
  • There is no evidence whatsoever that he "supports genocide" as you claim.
  • He is also not going to the school to talk about Israel or his poltical views. Protesting his presence on the basis of what a bunch of easily led staff members believe, without evidence, about his views on the basis he is Jewish is antisemitic and inappropriately political of them. It is performative racism. No better than if Tommy Robinson and the like decided to protest Sadiq Khan speaking at a school about life as London mayor solely on the basis he is Muslim. Which is what this reminds me of, frankly.

And? Their land has been functionally annexed by the Israeli government, they are being continually dispossessed and forced into smaller and smaller sections of the West Bank, and they do not have equal rights to the Israeli citizens who live in their midst. That is Bantustanisation. That is apartheid.

Because they have two separate governments- Israeli and Palestinian- so no, they don't have equal rights to the Israeli citizens.
Maybe the Palestinians should expect more and petition the PA for better rights, investment in Palestinian business, farming, building and education, better advocacy and training the PSS to defend their own citizens and tackle endemic corruption rather than contributing to their oppression, instead of the PA funnelling millions into terrorism, pay for slay and into their own pockets.

I didn't say it was right or fair but you seem to be very mixed up about what constitutes government, citizenship, rights and apartheid.

Why the accusation to the pp?

LittleMG · 13/01/2026 14:27

It’s not because he’s Jewish it’s because he supports a country that has and continues to kill thousands of innocent people including children. Very disingenuous to claim it’s because he’s Jewish.

Kingscallops · 13/01/2026 14:27

Flickaflock · 13/01/2026 14:25

And tens of thousands more Palestinians have been brutally dispossessed of their lives in the two years since - what’s your point? Besides, the thread had stopped being predominantly about that MP long before I got involved.

We already know the numbers of the war's fatalities. Hamas were so keen to update.

Minjou · 13/01/2026 14:15

Is is because he's Jewish, or is it because he openly supports genocide?

Also I don't think wearing a scarf can ever be threatening.

  1. It's not a genocide and never has been. If Israel had wanted to commit genocide in Gaza they would have achieved that in a matter of days. That is simply an unfounded DARVO accusation used to silence and intimidate.
  2. Are you really trying to make an argument this pathetic? You know exactly why they would be wearing them and what they symbolise. A swastika is just a couple of lines, don't know how that could be threatening, right?

It's not a weird question at all given you were so quick to call Hasbra. I found that quite telling on this thread. Is the MP representing his local constituency or Israel?

Please do point out where he openly says- 'I support genocide'?

As it stands, his opinion is actually shared by the UK government of which he is a part, that Israels actions in Gaza do not amount to genocide.

Do you think every single teacher at that school thinks its genocide? Or perhaps we dont know their opinions because they are there to teach? Should we ban all teachers who believe its not genocide too? In case someone protests outside the school? Bit of a slippery slope dont you think?

Difficult questions.

Israelis were dispossessed of their lives in the most brural manner on 7th October. Anyway, as much as this inevitably transcended into the war in Gaza, none of it is relevant to the MP in question.

You are the Hasbarist, as you well know. As for my own views, I support Israel’s existence within its 1948 borders, but oppose the occupation of the West Bank. I also don’t believe that today’s Palestinians deserve to suffer oppression forever because of the errors of their grandparents. That is called collective punishment.

But Palestinians in the West Bank are Palestinian citizens in Palestinian territory (whether occupied territory or not)- they're not Israeli citizens. They're governed by the Palestinian Authority.

Flickaflock · 13/01/2026 13:35

Israel’s non-Jewish citizen population has equal legal rights in theory, though in practice, they suffer a lot of discrimination and unequal access to services. E.g. in a lot of cases train lines connect Jewish towns to the major cities, while skipping Palestinian towns, depriving Palestinians of equal access to educational and employment opportunities.

The population of Palestinians in the West Bank, however, who live under Israeli occupation and control but do not hold Israeli citizenship - despite the evergrowing number of Israeli Jewish settlements in their midst - most certainly do not have equal rights.
